What is the name of thpse mean dogs that are small and furry?

what is the name of those small dogs that are usually furry and are always mean to other people eccept there owner? i want one of those dogs so it can chase my little sister out my room when ever she trys to go in without telling me..
Answers:
Hmm, I think I know what you mean-

Maybe you're describing a yorkshire terrier- they are very yappy and they bark alot, and they usually show a lot of affection to their owner.

Or, you could mean a chihuahua- but I doubt it, since they are scared little dogs, scared os strangers; but affectionate to their owners.
make believe dogs
Well Pomeranian are known for being aggressive.
But, chasing your little sister is not a good reason to get a dog!
Try putting a lock or sign on your door. Are you really ready for the responsibility of a dog? You have to know how to kid. Vet bills and everything else adds up quickly!
Just post a note on your door telling your sister to stay out.. If you get a nasty little dog to bite her, then you risk being sued.. The sign on the door will be a much better solution...
that's not a very good reason to get a dog
I think you are thinking of a pit bull or chow
There are a lot of small furry and mean ones. What if your sister get a bigger and meaner?
That is just mean and cruel but i LOVE dogs and I know that dogs r just 2 protect the owner not used as a weapon so SHAME on YOU...If that dog scares ur sis and then ur mom will have 2 throw out the dog and that is just 2 mean I will get really sad even through i don't know u but I LOVE dogs and I can't let them get hurt like that for ur mistake or orders... well let get back on the topic... i know that all dogs can be nice and mean is you train them to be loveable and protective... of your stuff...so... I think the best dog would be a pomeranians because they r really protective such as they will bark if u fight, bark at strangers, and do things thats just r mean...
gremlins
I can't believe what I just read. You need to stop and think about what you are doing. Trying to keep your sister out of your room by training a dog to "guard" your domain is cruel as well as being stupid. What are you going to do with the dog while you are at school or just not home? Is the dog going to be shut up in your bedroom? What are you going to do with your room when you have to take your dog outside? Any dog, if you train it to be mean, will be mean! What are you going to do if the dog actually attacks your little sister and hurts her badly? You are going to be responsible for the dog no matter what it does.

Get a lock for your door.

What is the name of the dog on the dog statue?

This one?

Second, there is the monument for the 11th PA, dedicated to the "heroic dead of the regiment. The monument of the 11th Pa stands silently atop Oak Ridge at the stop they defended that afternoon of July 1st. Driving along the row of monuments honoring the men of John Robison's division, you will immediately see a fine bronze statue of a skirmisher preparing to fire sitting atop the 11th PA monument. Few bother to get out and walk to the front where another bronze statue can be found, the statue of a small dog curled up as if sleeping. The dog Sallie was the mascot of the 11th and, she too, was numbered among the heroic dead to whom the monument was dedicated."

Sallie had been given to the regiment as a puppy during the early days of the war. Growing up with the men of the regiment, she became a comrade in arms, sharing the marches, the hardships, the extremes of the climate, and the dangers of battle. During battles, Sallie was known to take her position at the end of the line of battle, barking as loud as she could at the enemy. Of a friendly nature, Sallie was said to hate only three things: "Rebels, Democrats, and Women."

At Gettysburg, the little dog was with the men of the 11th PA throughout the battle of July 1st. During the course of the retreat through the town, she became separated from the unit. Not knowing where they had gone, she remembered where they had been and worked her way back across the field to this ridge and her fallen comrades. There, amidst the wounded, the dying, and the dead, Sallie laid down and maintained a silent vigil over her friends for the remainder of the battle. After the Confederate retreat, a member of the 12th Massachusetts found her still lying among the dead, weak from lack of food, but alive. She was returned to her unit. Recovering quickly, Sallie resumed her place in the regiment serving faithfully through the balance of the war. On February 6, 1865, within two months of the war's end, she was going into battle with her regiment at Hatcher's Run, Virginia. During the course of the fight, she was shot through the head and killed. Such was the feeling of the men of the regiment towards their mascot, that they buried her on the field despite the heavy enemy fire. Years later, when designs for the regimental monument at Gettysburg were discussed, it was felt only appropriate that their little pet, their friend, and their comrade be memorialized with the regiment.

What is the most popular dog in 2006-07?

what is the most popular dog in america
Answers:
According to AKC for 2006, it is the Labrador Retriever, 2007 stats are not out yet. Here is a list of ranking by breed.
http://www.akc.org/reg/dogreg_stats.cfm...
This is the 16th year in a row that the Lab has topped the list.
probably labs.
Most popular dog is always a labrador just about any year you check. Tho Yorkies are fast catching up! :)
I dont know the actual answer, but I am going to take a guess and say a pitbull or pitbull terrier.
idk, but i love my bosten terrier! :)
The number one AKC registered breed is the Labrador Retriever, but of unregistered breeds it is thought that the Pit Bull is the most numerous.
in the hood it will always be the pitbull
I have two pitbull and I don't live in the hood, my dogs are smart, cute and athletic.
the pit bull is the choice for men
Our Kimba. A mixed breed of every dog's race available on earth. Strong character. Very stubborn. Knowing when he did something wrong. Know how to apologize, which seldom happened and we all love him.
I think it's a mutt. There are so many more mutts out there than any single purebred dog.
Probable the pit bull, golden retv. or lab
But most definitely for me MINE is always the most popular dog in any year!
I have a Pit bull and i am a female and we don't live in the hood either. More people are realizing that the news and bad press is not true about Pits that the are great dogs.
i am a female also, and i have a pit/lab mix and think shes the best and I DONT LIVE IN THE HOOD!!
I agree, it is probably a lab. The statistics do not allow for dogs that are refistered with other registries than AKC, or those who have AKC dogs and do not register the, nor does it account for dogs that end up in the pounds. Labs are one of the main purebreds seen in the shelters. People like them when they are cute little pups and get rid of them when they are big. My favorite is and allways will be the chihuahua.

What is the most effective way to house break a puppy?

This is a large breed dog that we want to be outdoors, and also be able to have indoors on certian occasions, especially when I am home alone with my 1 year old. He is approx.1 1/2 months old.we are not home during the hours of 7am-5pm so his training will have to be in the evenings only, will this be less effective opposed to training all day?
Answers:
– First, you need to teach your puppy where you want him to go to the bathroom. Your puppy will not know where to go if you don’t show him. Therefore, he won’t know if he went in the wrong spot. We suggest starting the housebreaking process outside. Many people tend to paper train and in essence you are making the training process harder for you and may end having to retrain him.

2- Praise is essential in the puppy housebreaking process. It will make him feel more confident when you praise him with a treat or pat on the back for a job well done – not messing in the house! While mistakes can and will happen and you may get frustrated – it is very important to not punish your dog, yell or swat him if he has an accident in the house.

3- Be aware of your puppies eating and bathroom habits this will help you get him out side in time to prevent any accidents in the home. Puppies usually have to urinate upon waking up; don’t delay taking him outside upon starting his day. Puppies also defecate regularly after each meal – usually within twenty minutes from eating. Pay attention to your puppy, he will give you signals he has to go out but you have to be in tune with them. These signs include restless circling, squatting and sniffing.

Never carry your puppy outside! You should choose a command to signal him it is time to go outside and that should be the command you always use – puppies like and need a routine that they will become familiar with. When he makes it out the door and does finish his business, praise him – puppies also love attention and affection, let him know he did a good job for his master!

4- Some days will be harder than others but if he makes a mistake in the house, try to ignore it the first time. Yelling at him or swatting him will only make the training process harder for you and your dog scared! Avoid negativity at all cost. Again, we know this might be hard after a day at the office and dealing with the kids but you will be thankful later!

5 – If you will be leaving your puppy alone for a couple of hours, barricade off a corner of the house or use a dog crate but don’t just leave him free to roam the house! Puppies usually will not toilet the area in which they sleep.

Take your puppy outside right before putting him in the crate and then take him outside again immediately upon returning home. Don’t leave any water down on the floor while in this housebreaking process, if you are gone too long he may not be able to help it and have to go. Do make sure to leave him plenty of toys to keep him busy.

A crate can be a very helpful training tool for your dog while in the training process and not wanting to give him full reign of the house just yet. This will happen over time. But remember along with bathroom accidents, puppies like to chew and they will chew anything in their path if they are able to reach it and you aren’t there to tell him “No!”

In closing, Praise your puppy and set him up on a routine, the end result will be a happy dog and a happy dog lover!
I used crate training for both of my puppies. They were trained within a couple of weeks. It works like a charm and is easy to do.
10 hours alone, without bathroom breaks is pure torture for a puppy!!! They need to be let out at least once an hour - especially considering he is just 6 weeks old. So yes, you will not have a properly housetrained pet if you will only be training in the evening.sorry
If you are going to have the dog outside most of the time and only have it ondoors on occasion, it is going to be extremely hard to house break him. It takes months of constant training for them to really get it and he won't learn on an occasional basis. Why will he just be outside?
Indoor dogs are cleaner, more protective of you because they will feel closer to you, they are less destructive because they do not get as bored and frusterated, as well as there is a big chance that a dog left alone outside will be a barker and annoy your neighbors.
Bring him inside and crate train him.
Crate Training is the only way to go. AKC recommended. Just about all dog experts agree. To get the best book on the subject it is called:"How to Housebreak Your Dog in 7 Days" by Shirlee Kalstone. It is pretty much recognized as the house training Bible. It is short, easy to understand, and easy to follow. It will also give you feeding and sleeping guidelines for different development stages. If you follow this book, you will get the job done.
Train him indoors bathe him a lot and make a raddle can(a soda can with 14 pennies in it and you shake it)
Shake it when it does something wrong

I have a small dog that I accidentally potty trained. Since I hated the stains the dog would leave (even in the garage) I bought a plastic washing machine pan and placed it inside a small kennel next to the dog's crate. I would tape the pads on top of the pan and the dog would magically "go" in the pads. Eventually, we removed the pads and kept the dog locked up in the crate overnights and finally stopped doing the deed inside the house or outside of the pan area. The pan is still there becuase I hate cleaning the deed from the garage floor.

Also be sure to use the little clicker and walk him/her outside and wait for them to go potty before the click and reward. Takes some time to get it right and they might even go outside and pretend to do the deed just for a treat eventually they'll do it on their own...

Good Luck

PS I was also able to train my dog (the same way) to stay at the bottom of the stairs without any fences whatsoever..it works positive (and consistent) reinforcement that is...

PPS I was luck to train my dog at about 4 mos while I was off with a new baby. They say about 5 minutes of reinforcement at various times should do it. Make sure the dog is a bit tired before training though. they listen better.

What is the most adorable thing your dog does, that makes your heart melt?

My dog likes to sit on my lap when I'm on the couch. She sits resting her body on mine, with her head on my chest and she looks up at me with those big brown eyes.
All I can do is look back at her, smile and give her lots of cuddles, it is the cutest thing she does.

My miniature chihuahua nestles in my neck and grunts softly like a little piglet.
He chases the mailman.

When she stands on 2 legs and folds her front paws and holds them over her head like she is praying.. (When I have food.)
OMG i think we have the same dog. But mine's a male. He's so kind and loving, he LOVES to snuggly with everyone. People would be just sitting and he'd go up to them look up at them and started resting his body on theirs and starts to lick them. My dog is a pomeranian mix with collie.
I have a big Rotty. if I'm sitting, he sits beside me, leans on me, and plops his head on my lap. My heart melts everytime. I love my dog more than some people!
As soon as I walk into the house, or wake up in the morning, he greets me with so much excitement and a "gift". What ever he can find to bring to me, a shoe, a newspaper, he even one time carried in his mouth a 5 lb Bible off of the end table. He is a lover!
I am a pushover when it comes to my baby, pretty much anything he does makes me melt. But I love it when he cuddles in my lap and rests his head on my chest.
I don't have mine anymore. He did many nice things but I just loved it when I told him 'kiss' and he kissed me.
When we snuggle together in bed after waking up. Yes he sleeps in my bed. He'll lay on his back and put both paws against his face as if to say, "Look at how cute I am". He's a Mini Schnauzer so it looks cute because of his moustache. Everytime he does this my heart just melts and I love him more and more. Yes I LOVE my dog and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Mini Schnauzers rule!!!
My Chi knows when I am sad and he gets on my lap and gives me a sad look back .And comforts me with his eyes and his self.
My labbie will lay curled around my cat and let her clean him.
chase's cats, its like its a wild animal again! Never catches them.
My Chi will get in some kind of trouble. And he'll know that I am upset but he'll get in my lap and put his head on my chest. Then he'll look up and lick my chin softly. I forget what I was mad for. I love it
My dog rambo follows me wherever i go. If i'm working in the yard he lays and watches my every move. When i go to the shed for a shovel he follows me, then back. He won't let me out of his sight. He loves me.
my dog always has to be cuddling. He always has to be touching me. If nothing else he has a paw on my leg. If I am on my knees scrubbing the floor, he lays on my legs.
The dearest thing is that when I am lounging on the couch with my lap top, he lays across my chest and nuzzle his head on my shoulder. He is jealous of the computer, but he makes sure he is on me so he is close to me. He looks at me with those eyes that says I am the most amazing human on the planet. Unconditional love rocks
Tries to attack the neighbours' dobermans. They are roughly 20 times her size.
Molly, our chocolate lab/Weimeraner mix, is adorable and she knows it. She adores my husband, and will get up on the couch, lay her head against his chest, and look up at him like, "I love you, Daddy." She'll come over to me and lay her head on my leg and give me the same look. On weekends, Ed invites her into bed, throws the covers over her head and wrestles with her, but he learned his lesson. While she was under the covers, she pulled up her head when it was under his jaw--she accidentally loosened one of his teeth and chipped two more!
My wifes(he's mine when it's bath/grooming time, lol) German Sheppard is a cuddler/lapdog,he will crawl under the covers till he can lay his head on a pillow between us and try to push me out of bed if I snore "too" loud.My German Sheppard's motherly instints have hit the over drive stage since she was fixxed. When we bring something home and tell her " it's a baby" she will mother it,clean, watch over, and come get one of us if it isn't acting normal. So far she's done this with rabbits, chickens( yes, even baby chicks,I was very leary of this at first but nothing happened, and when we open the hen house in the morning and close it at night she is right there checking on her "babies",cats,AND she even tried to do this with our horses(they didn't like that though, lol)

What is the minimum age a puppy is able to leave its mother?

Answers:
A puppy should be an absolute MINIMUM of 8 weeks old.

Many breeders keep their puppies until between 10 and 14 weeks. During this time, the puppy is still learning different social behaviors from the mother and the rest of the litter. I recommend waiting to at least 12 weeks to separate the puppy from it's mother and the rest of the litter.
7 weeks and that is pushing it. It could cause some bad behavioral problems. You really should wait until 8 weeks.
6 weeks old. I, personally, would wait untill they are 8 weeks just to make sure it is going to be strong and healthy enough.
8 weeks is the minimum for good social development. If taken from the dam and littermates earlier they often do not properly relate to other dogs.
8 weeks is the legal minimum age here for selling a puppy, but another couple of weeks would really be better.
Don't rush it ! The puppies will be more healthier if the stay longer with their mother, i think it have something with their immune system. Mothers milk have some enzymes that keep dog healthier.

Take care !
8-9 weeks make sure that the puppy is eating solid food and the longer you leave it with the mother is better as when they nurse they will get more enzymes to help them fight off bacterial infections
I got mine at 6 weeks and she was fine and very healthy, but 8 weeks is usually recommended.
6-8 weeks and no less.
6-7 weeks depending on their progress of growing, independence etc.
8 weeks is the LEGAL minimum age, but technically as long as the mother has stopped nursing the puppy they are free to go. I on two seperate occasions have gotten puppies at 5 weeks old and they were extremely well behaved. Of course you have to get them puppy formula until they can eat solid food but that wasn't a problem for me.
Where I live (NH), it is illegal to sell or give a puppy away before 8 weeks although you can get away with it. Not that I'm trying to go against the law. It just happens my pups mother got very ill and I took my puppy home at 6 weeks!

What is the method to teach my dog high five?

What is the method to teach my dog high five?
Answers:
here is a video that demonstrates how to teach high-five> http://www.clickertraining.tv/product.ht...
Here is a different method> http://free-dog-tips.com/teach-your-dog-...
When your dog happens to raise its paw, gently hit it a high five saying "______ give me a high five". Then once finished doing so, give it a treat. Continously do that frequently and eventually it will be intelligent enough to do it on its own
I find the best way to teach a dog tricks is thru using a shock collar and alot of water. Give him a treat if he does the trick right, give him a quick wet zap if he does it wrong.
Hold their hand and give them a treat. Keep doing it and they will get the picture.
Command, grab paw, praise. Repeat several times. Eventually the dog will start to do it itself.
buy small training treats and have your dog sit. Let your dog see that you have treats in your hand. squat directly infront of your dog and give him the command with your treat hand held in the position to recieve the "high five" . Dogs will instinctly paw at objects that contain food. So when he does this immedatly give him the treat with high pitched praise "good boy" "good boy" Most dogs catch on to the "high five" realitively quick. Just be patient and consistant and you will be high fiving in no time. **** luck!

p.s. do not grab your dogs paw and raise it to your hand other wise that will be what he learns that he only needs to raise his paw when you grab it. He needs to be the one raising his paw. :)
I taught my dog the high five by teaching her to shake a paw first. After she mastered that I started to put my hand up like a high five instead of putting it out for her to put her paw in and she would aim her paw for my palm. and if I put both hands up she will give me 10....hehehe

What is the main active ingredient to look for in flea drops for dogs and what % ?

Answers:
You want a product that contains pyrethrins. Use the smallest amount necessary. There is a product called Frontline that you can get at the vet or at a farm supply store. It simply contains pyrethrins with an added ingredient to sterilize flea eggs so it lasts longer because the eggs don't hatch. The OTC products are lower in concentration than Frontline, so they don't work as well. Some dogs have had seizures from prescription strength flea products.
pyrethrins
I'd see your vet. OTC flea meds can be dangerous and even fatal. You really don't know what's in there. Why take a chance saving a few pennies?
First off you shouldn't have to worry about active ingredients and % IF you get flea products from your vet.

OTC flea products are are ineffective and can be very dangerous to your dog. They can cause serious skin irritations, skin burns, neurological issues, seizures and death. No matter what OTC..Hartz, Zodiac, Bio-Spot, Sargents, etc...they all contain a very concentrated, unsafe pesticide..The pesticides in these products go into the bloodstream and can cause problems with the dogs organs and nervous system.
Get a safe and effective flea product from your vet..one like Frontline Plus or Advantage.

What is the least vicious dog breed ?

Answers:
weiner dogs
there is no such thing

any dog can be vicious if not socialized and trained right from a young age
Golden Retrievers and Collies
To be honest all dog breeds can be equally vicious. It's all in the owner and their training and on the dogs bite. Good Luck
Yup, there is no such thing. The least vicious dog is a dog that has the best home.
chichuach haha it cant hurt a fly if it tryed!
Any dog can be vicsious or non viscious it all depends on the breeder and owner. I have a pitbull mix and she thinks that she is a 60lb lap dog. I have seen rottweilers that are 110lb lap dogs...Just train it well.
it is not the dogs it is the owner if u let him be vicios he will
It all depends on how you raise them. Pit bulls have a bad rap but if they are raised with love they are just as nice as any dog. I personally love Labs. They are sweet, affectionate, and desperate to please. A sweet small breed is mini dachshund or cocker spaniels. but like i said it all just depends on how they are raised. Pound dogs sometimes make the best pets. It just takes love and care.
there is no such thing as a "vicious dog breed"
however if you are not a strong leader then I'd stay clear of dogs that need strong leaders (so no rots, sheps, pits, that sort of thing)
some breeds just need stronger leaders than others and if not given a strong enough leader then ANY DOG CAN BE MISJUDGED AS "VICIOUS" but no dog is actually vicious, just untrained or uncontrolled
there is no such thing. the way a dog acts depends on the individual animal and how the owner trains it, not on the breed.
I have a wheaton terrier, and if you don't mind a lot of energy, he is the PERFECT dog. He is so sweet and would never hurt a fly. And hes so soft and cute!
A Pug for sure.
The least vicious? I'd say one that is fast asleep, or being cuddled by his mom. Any dog, any breed, will be territorial it is their nature. As for most vicious, any dog that has had a bad childhood, just like humans, they are products of their environments. I've met sweet, docile pitbulls and I heard that a terrier is little dog that you really don't want to mess with. And we all know that Chihuahuas have that Napoleon complex going on. Mine honestly feel that they have to prove something, it's hilarious.
The "BOBBING HEAD" variety usually seem in the rear window of vintage automobiles. thus far have NEVER attacked anything! ;-)

Seriously, it is unwise to generalize to much, as breeding, interaction, and environment will probably compose 90% of the likelihood of aggressiveness.
.
Everybody who said "no such thing as a non vicious breed" is correct. That said, many "experts" tend to suggest golden retrievers/Labrador retrievers for homes with children. so I am gunna go with Retrievers (again though, no guarantee just better odds)
Here's a tip. Be cruel to a dog=vicious dog. Be sweet and kind a dog= nice and well-behaved dog. So really it depends on you. if you buy it from a breeder It depends on you if you adopt it from the shelter or find it on the street it depends on its past. But any mean dog can be turned into a kind dog. it just takes time and patice. Hope this helps.=)
There is not such thing as a least vicious dog breed any dog can be vicious it is based on the training and socialization of the dog. I would not recommend a Chihuahua, Pit Bull, Rottweiler, Doberman Pincher, or Miniature Pincher.

I raise (12)Saint Bernard's they have never even snarled at a fly!
Less VICIOUS? It all depends on how you TREAT the dog as to how he/she acts.
I can own a Pit Bull and 99.99999% guarentee you the dog will be just as sweet and gentle as my Black Lab.
Any breed of dog can be a vicious killer, likewise any breed of dog can be as gentle as a teddy bear. Temperment is hereditary but the upbringing of the dog plays a HUGE roll in how they act. An owner must teach a dog proper household manners and let them know what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior. Likewise the owner must know how to properly discipline their dog, for example never hitting the dog. Striking a dog can cause them to lash out. So even though a dogs temperment is determined through its breeding the owner is the one and only one who can make it a vicious dog.
I have owned Shih Zhus all my life and while the male dogs have serious attitudes female shi zhus are great and never vicious
Strangly enough English Bull Dogs have one of the sweetest tempermants. But you can find a good dog regardless of their breed i have a cattle dog mix shes a sweetheart one of my friends has a pure bred pitt bull and she wouldnt hurt a fly shes very submissive. Just dont assume a certain breed of dog is vicious just because of the stereotypes. There are dogs that were trained to be mean and have those traits like the pittbull, rotwieler etc but all of them if raised in a loving and social home can turn out to be the most loving dogs ever. if youre looking for a dog you should check the local animal shelters and humane societies stray dogs tend to be the best type because theyve been on the street and know what a good life really means and theyll be your best friend plus youll help save a dogs life :D dont go just for the breed either go for the dogs personality. Muts rule!
There is no such thing as a vicious dog...it's how well they are socialized and treated.
Not exactly sure how to answer this one with out stepping on peoples toes.... The best I can do is tell the truth so people will understand..

We all have different breeds that we think are great dogs.

No matter what the breed, large or small. If they are vicious they are all in the same category.

Some breeds are more agressive then others, and yet all dogs even the most docile can turn if pushed to the limit.
I agree with what most people are saying on here about no vicious breed... It really does depend on traing and upbringing... but i do have 2 english bulldogs that are the sweetest and most people loving dogs I have ever had... they are so tolerant of my kids my kids could do anything to them and they take it.

What is the largest english bull dog?

Answers:
Wikipedia says English Bulldogs (in the USA known simply as Bulldogs) should weigh "about 45 lbs." The AKC breed standards say a female should weigh about 40 lbs and a male should weigh about 50lbs. - I wouldn't imagine a true bulldog could outweigh the breed standard by more than about 150% (75lb total?) or so - though I couldn't find any difinitive 'record' for the largest.

Michele
The biggest one that I have seen weighed 95lbs.

What is the largest breed of domestic dog in the world?

I thought maybe Irish Wolfhound or Great Dane.
Answers:
irish wolfhound is the tallest, great dane not far behind.the largest in terms of courage is the tiny jack russell.
You stupid freak its Irish Wolfhouse..duh!
Largest in height or weight, or overall?
Depends what you mean by large.

The English Mastiff is the heaviest, the Irish Wolfhound is the tallest.
Digby?
Pound wise it's the English Mastiff.
st. bernard
Irish Wolfhound.
The explanation is here
http://wiki.answers.com/q/what_is_the_la...
not sure, but i think it's a Mastiff
Well it depends.

The tallest are like the great danes.
ZORBA. you've got to check this out!
Probably a mastiff. Like a Neapolitan Mastiff, like Fang in Harry Potter (the movies--I don't think he's that breed in the books.) Those things are ginormous.

But even Newfies are huge...they're like bears. Enormous. Newfoundland...Retrievers? Are they Retrievers?

But you also have to remember that hounds aren't that massive, not like some dogs. Irish Wolfhounds are pretty lean, not much bulk. They're tall...but not that heavy.

So it also depends on what you mean by "largest." Largest in terms of height, weight, what?
Weight? Mastiff

Tallest by breed is the Irish Wolfhound

but currently there is a record holding Great Dane that is freakishly tall AFAIK
In the Guinness book of World Records it is the Great Dane by height and the English Mastiff in weight.
English Mastiff

Actually, I always thought Great Danes were the biggest (not the heaviest). It appears I am right:

http://dogsinthenews.com/stories/070415a...
that mexican family that moved in down the street
I thought it's afghan hound. But looks like I am dead wrong
Irish Wolfhound is the tallest, but I think a Great Dane just past the normal size of a Wolfhound, but that's rare. As far as weight goes that would be the Mastiff Breeds a friend of mine has a Brazilian Mastiff that's already way over 200 pounds and she's still a puppy..and still growing!
The Old English Mastiff is the LARGEST breed of dog in the world .
.They can weigh anywhere from 110 pounds to the 343 pounds. Zorba,an English mastiff ,held the world record of the world's largest dog. Although most Mastiff males weigh around 160-230 pounds and females around 120-190 pounds. The height of a mastiff can range from 25 inches at the shoulder to 36 inches .
The Irish Wolf Hound and Great Dane can be taller then the mastiff , but do not match the mastiff for weight and over all size .
The Old English Mastiff.
its the great dane by far
irish wolfhound
largest-st.bernard
tallest-irish wolfhound.
FACT!
I thought it was the Great Pyrenees... maybe its just all that fur. bigger than the St. anyway...
The Irish Wolfhound,
The answer to your question depends on your definition of largest. If you mean in height, then the answer is the Irish Wolfhound at 32 to 34".

If, on the other hand, you mean the weightiest then that was usually believed to be the Saint Bernard. The heaviest dog on record was a Saint Bernard named Benedictine, which weighed 152.5kg (336 lbs). An average male weighs in at about 184 lbs. However the English Mastiff is often over that weight nowadays. The heaviest on record in the UK in the last 30 years weighed in at about 23 Stone, or 322lbs.
Yes I believe it is the Irish Wolfhound.
im not sure but i think the biggest dog in the world would have to be some of those mountain dogs wow they are so big but the wolfhound would have to be close i might be wrong though either way they are both fairly big dog vonn
if u go on to yahoo vidoes and tipe in worlds tallest dog there should be a video of it. its a great dane whith spots
the Irish wolfhound is the largest breed of dog in the world
tallest standing is the irish woolfhound heaviest would be close between the mastiff and st bernard

What is the largest amount of pups a medium size German Shepherd can have???

Answers:
mine shocked me...she had 15..all lived but I had to hand feed several...mom didn't have enough milk or a nipple for every
Ours had 11 and we had to help out with the feedings.
Most I've seen with my own eyes is 16, but that's way above average and they didn't all survive.
we have a german sheperd at home and her name is eshie. she gave birth to 11 pups. but so sad they're all dead 4 days after she gave birth.
A med size dog can have up to 20 something pups. The more the male dog gets to the ***** the more pups his sperm will make. But the problem with that is that if its too many pups her uterus can erupt and she ill need emergency vet care. Or she might become so overwhelmed she wont feed the pups.

What is the greatest thing about your dog?

I am wondering what dog owners and lovers would say the greatest thing about thier dog is.

I would say my rottweiler is so great because no matter how grumpy I am he will still look at me like I am the most amazing person!
Answers:
Lovey,my 41lb Shepherd mix female LOVES to play with her tennis balls.
I can pretend to throw it and she knows that I haven't and she will wait til I do actually throw the ball.
She wants to play ball while I am mowing and she is smart enough to figure out where I will go next with the mower and she will drop her ball in my path of mowing.
She has figured out that I wear my Rubber Boots to the duck pen when it has rained and she will drop the ball in one of my boots so that I find it when I put the boots on.
Lovey knows my morning routine of feeding my animals and so that she knows I won't forget to throw her ball before I go to work, she leaves the ball in the dog food dish.
During the hot weather of summer,Lovey will chase her ball until she is totally and completely exhausted yet she is not ready to quit playing. . . .she will go to get a drink of water, lay down by the water bowl, drop her ball into the water and bounce it with her paw until she has recovered from her exhaustion.
Take Lovey's tennis ball away from her and she just wouldn't be Lovey.
The grandkids and neighbor kids LOVE to come over and play ball with her so Lovey isn't the only one having fun.
i second yours and let me add another.

the greatest thing about my dog is that she smiles at me when we snuggle together.
I would have to agree with you on that.. No matter how bad I am feeling or what kind of day I had, my babies always love me! : )
the greatest thing about my dog is that despite all he has been through in the short 2 years he has been alive he can still be positive. i will provide the link on how i managed to get my hands on such a wonderful dogs. he just has had a lot of bad things happen to him. 1. not even being wanted 2. having to be neutered (i would imagine that hurts for a dog) 3. having surgery do unclog his bowels. and yet this dog is just happy to be alive. and no matter what he is always cheery and willing to play

here is his story

http://www.sugarloot.com/photoentry/5119...
I have two Chihuahuas. One male and one female. The male is mine. He is adorable and nasty at the same time. He is so loving to me but will bite anyone who comes near me including my husband. He is just a naughty little boy full of mischief. Good thing he is little. LOL. I just tell anyone that comes over to wear boots so he can't bite their ankles.
It is the unconditional love they show / give!!!
I think the greatest thing about all dogs is that they love you unconditionally. I can come home after a long hard and sometimes bad day at work and know that my three little guys will make me smile and be happy to see me. If I had to pick something that is great about one of my dogs...it would be that my scottie, Windsor, loves to watch television. He actually sits up, like he would begging for something, and watches people and animals on the screen. He can tell the difference between a dog and a cat...he wimpers for dogs and barks when cats are on commercials. He is more entertaining than most TV shows.
He begs by giving me his paw to get his nails trimmed. He love the attention, and the ease to do it is much appreciated
he doesn't hurt any body unless they have drugs
well the best thing about my lab is that when ever i come from home she pushes me to the ground and licks my face and gives me her toys to play with her.=D
The greatest thing about my girl is the way we know each other without having a "shared langauge"
No matter what Hillary will always forgive me and love me no matter what, she's a good little girl.
Oh, too many "greatest things" to list! I would have to put in a word for the "mad-dash" though. Where for no apparent reason, he would go running around the house at full speed. It was sooooo funny, I laughed until I was in stitches on the floor everytime.
All I can say is he is AMAZING! Extremly smart. Well one of them lol.
So many reasons, so little time. But I think the fact that no matter how bad my day has been, they can always make me laugh. They are a constant source of amusement.

What is the funniest thing that your dog(s) have done ??

What about a funny thing they do always ??
Answers:
every friday afternoon, the siren goes off, we use to put her on the porch and her head would tilt to the side really far and she would make the funniest howl i have ever heard. The she would start "talking" and it almost sounded like she was saying momma. lol
my pitbull was just crying because she could not get a rock bigger than her head off the bottom of the river she started barking at it and than gave up and brought me a smaller one still pretty heavy i am really surprised she did not break her teeth
The funniest thing that my dog, Abby, has ever done, is peed on the vet when he tried to use a thermometer. He was a rather bad one, if I do say so myself, and we've switched recently.

The funniest thing that she does all the time is drinking coffee right out of the cup from the table. It gets annoying, but she's pretty funny.
Who even knows, I have a coonhound and they are known for being hilarious! He is truly funny all of the time! The funniest thing he does is stretch out his front and back paws and lays on the ground...he looks like a coonhound skin rug! He's just a hillybilly in general and it cracks me up!
its not funny but cute, whenever my dog Deja wants something her tail wags in a circle. i cant desribe to much but cross country road trip, and taking the dogs through the car wash = )
When we were looking at our coonhound at the pound, she actually jumped up onto the drinking fountain, pushing the button to activate it and got a drink. I'm being TOTALLY SERIOUS! It was hilarious but we'd never encourage it now!
I have a little dog and she's about 8lbs and ever since she was young when she would go potty her hind legs would go up in the air and she would be doing a hand stand pretty much. It's so cute and funny. especially when she was little cause she was so tiny!

My other dog is like 20lbs and still a pup, she tries to pick up multiple bones or toys at once. It's like she can't settle for one. If she has a bone in her mouth and sees another one, she wants to have both in her mouth. Lol...it's so funny because she'll actually try and get them both in her mouth for a good while until she realizes it's not going to happen!
my dog is a bichon and has a lot of hair and she sleeps in the bathtub every night to stay cool..

What is the friendliest breed of dog?

This site asks questions to determine your ideal dog.

Golden retriever. The golden retreiver is an excellent choice for families that enjoy lots of outdoor activities. Though originally developed to help hunt birds, the golden rapidly proved himself as a loyal and devoted family member.

Pembroke Welsh corgi. At about 25 pounds, the Pembroke Welsh corgi is a popular pet. This stocky short tailed breed needs daily exercise and loves romping with the kids. They are best with older kids (over 6 or 7 years) as some dogs can be bossy and possessive.

West Highland white terrier. This small white terrier is playful and loveable but does require some exercise to keep him happy. The Westie is a good watch dog and faithful friend that needs some grooming to keep his coat mat and tangle free. The Westie can be an excellent dog for older children. They tend not to be tolerant of children's accidental mistreatments. They are often not recommended for households with children under the age of ten.

Irish setter. This beautiful red dog was originally developed to help with hunting but early on, the breed showed his natural aptitude as a companion. Loved by many and always eager to please, the Irish setter is a part of many families.

Schnauzer. The schnauzer is a wonderful family pet. Eager to please and to keep the family safe, this breed usually requires regular grooming and daily exercise. This breed thrives on human companionship and is available in three different sizes.

Labrador retriever. The lab is a popular choice for active families, especially those that enjoy water sports. The labrador seems to have boundless energy to keep up with the kids as well as natural protective instincts. Though originally developed to help hunt birds, the lab is also a loyal and devoted family member.

Poodle. The poodle is an intelligent and friendly dog that craves human companionship. Happiest when allowed to run and play, the poodle is well known for being low shed, and comes in three different sizes to suit any taste.

Bichon frise. This white fluff ball is a happy-go-lucky dog. Faithful and obedient, the bichon is a wonderful addition to any home. The bichon does require regular grooming to keep his coat looking great but loves to investigate and participate in anything.

Airedale. A sturdy dog, the airedale takes his job as a family friend and protector seriously. Willing to join in the fun anytime, the airedale always keeps a watchful eye out for any potential dangers.

Basset hound. With his sad droopy eyes, you may think the basset is a lazy hound. But, as soon as kids are around, this dog will jump right in and keep up with the best of them.

Beagle. The beagle may be an active breed but he fits in well with very active families. Needing a good place to sleep and plenty of games to play, this breed can easily join any family.

Shih tzu. Originally bred as a companion animal for royalty, the shih tzu still enjoys a life a luxury. Not too proud to get down and dirty with the kids, this dog loves nothing better than sharing time with people, even if that means getting dressed up for a tea party.

Boxer. The boxer may look a bit intimidating but he is actually a sweet and friendly dog. A natural guardian, the boxer prefers to spend his time with people than with other canines. Though this breed can do well in quiet homes, he can also thrive in busy active families.

Cairn terrier. Despite their small size, the cairn terrier is a tough little dog. This breed does well in any living environment as long as there are people around. As a terrier, this breed does need exercise and a romp in the park or running with the neighborhood kids suits him just fine.

Collie. Forever connected to "Lassie", the collie is considered by many to be one of the best family pets. Intelligent yet patient, the collie is loved by families all over the world.

Boston terrier. The Boston is a small black and white terrier that loves to make you laugh. After brief periods of activity, the Boston loves to curl up on the sofa while you read a good book. Obedient and loyal, the Boston is a good watch dog and loyal family pet, especially for the not so active families.

Newfoundland. This gentle giant may drool a little too much for some people but has made a wonderful big protective teddy bear for many lucky children. Because of his size, families with very young children may want to wait a few years but those families who enjoy life near water can rest easy with this dog near by.

Pomeranian. This little fluffball looks just like a tiny fox. Weighing around 5 pounds, the Pom is an adorable breed that thrives on human companionship. Requiring little space, the Pom is great for a family with older children.

Pug. Not at all pugnacious, the pug is an affectionate, loveable, even-tempered breed with great charm and dignity. Pugs love being part of the family. They are playful companions for children and will happily curl up on your lap for a nap.

Whippet. Whippets are quiet, gentle and loyal. This dog tends to greet strangers with a kiss and loves children. The also love to chase things so should always be kept on a leash or in a secure yard when venturing outdoors.
Papillon. They are very friendly and very cute. They love children as well.
labs!
Pug! They are the best...such a cuddler.
hey there i think that chows are the best dogs to have. i have 2 now and have always had chows they got along with y other dogs and great with kids.
Golden Retriever. They are very eager to please and will tolerate anything from children. They have almost no prey drive, which makes them super friendly with everybody.
it doesnt matter the breed... its the dog itself. you can have a great dane who is afraid of everything or you cna ahve a rotti who loves to cuddle.. I have a wheaten who i veyr mellow friendly and loving. but thats just him, i also know a pretty mean one too. So do some searching at maybe a shelter and find one that way.. have fun good luck!
Hey there...Get a BOXER...They are lovely, sweet natured and very friendly pups!! They get along with anyone or any other dogs, they love to play too!! Good luck with your choice xx
It's really hard to say. I would think about a poodle as they are quite friendly and usually get along with other dogs well enough. Besides, poodles are easy to train and interesting to work with. Oh, it's also important to check if the puppy is not too dominating (say, doesn't try to start a fight with all other puppies in the litter and is not too agressive to strangers).
LAB, LAB, LAB, OH DID I MENTION LAB?? They are great family dogs and play nice with others. I have 2 and don't want anything else

What is the feading schedule for pregnant dog???

Answers:
Feed her a top quality dry dog food and let her eat as much as she wants. Do not give her any vitamins while she's pregnant - if you want to give her vitamins (dog vitamins only) do it as soon as the puppies are born. If you give her vitamins now, you're encouraging over-large puppies, making delivery much harder for her. Once the puppies are born, you should still give her as much food as she wants, but you might want to add some puppy food for the extra calories she needs when she's nursing.
every other tuesday at alternating cycles between 3 and 6 pm..anything else would be silly
all she will eat of a premium kibble twice per day, or fresh dry food left down for her.
Feed her like you would normally. If for some reason she seems a little picky, try to add something to it that she enjoys. She needs to maintain a healthy diet since puppies are on the way. After she has the litter, she may need a little extra to get her body back and keep the milk coming. You should be fine. Good Luck!
try to feed her as you do normally every day but she will eat more and more after each week so try to feed her more and give her some extra vitamins and supply her with fresh water 24 hrs a day and good luck for the coming puupies

What is the easiest way you know to instill ear drops into a labs ears?

My dog has swimmers ear, and I am supposed to put 3 drops into his ears 2 times a day. He immediately starts jumping around, nipping at my hands, pulling away from me.
He weighs 90 lbs and its all I can do to hold him down and at this point, I am not sure how many drops he is getting because it is such a fiasco. I tried to get help from my nephew, but he made it worse. The dog is still in his puppy stage. He acts terrible.
Any suggestions?
Answers:
What you can do is come up behing the dog, and straddle it, squatting down. Put your right hand over your dog's muzzle, pushing to the right. Put your head against your dog's (ear to the back of the head, not your chin), and calmy massage the dog's neck, shoulder, and eventually around the ear. Have someone come up calmy with a treat in one hand, and the mediaction in the other. Have them wave the treat in his face while you massage him, and try your best to get the meds in his ears. If you squish the end of is ear near the back of his head together with you thumb and forefinger, this feels very nice to a dog and may get him to calm down.
boy do i know that.. our vet told use to use a muzzle (which calms them down and protects you aswell) then take it off and give the dog a major treat that he would only get after you do his ears (eazy mac would great). It took 2 times with my dog and now she doesnt put up any fight because she knows that there is a special treat in the end
Scruff him by the neck. Momma dog would if he acted badly with her.
i rubbed my labs ears a lot and she loved that. it got her used to me playing with her ears i guess. now I just start rubbing them and then put the drops in and keep rubbing. she doesn't like it but tolerates it... good luck
I would have 2 people do it get a thick blanket and wrap him in it and them hold him down the put the drops in
You know what.. Don't think about it, worry about, or even stress on it.. Dog is sleeping on the couch, You have your drops sitting on the coffee table.. When he is relaxed and sleeping.. Pick up your drops and swifly lean over there and drip drip drip put in your drops.. Rub his ear and let him go.. When he is relaxed again, get the other side.

Don't let him feel that you are worried about this, cause then he'll be on edge wondering what's going to happen.

What is the earliest age that you should bring your puppy to the dog park?

I want to make sure it's socialized properly but he is only six weeks old. I know, I've read that it's too early to take away from the mom in many posts but this is the circumstances and I have to deal with what I have. Should I wait a few weeks before I take him to the park? He is an American Bulldog.
Answers:
You shouldn't ever take your dog to the park, pet store or any other large social place like that until they have completed their series of puppy vaccinations. The reason for this is that he can pick up potentially life threatening diseases from the dogs at the park, who even if they are vaccinated can be carriers for the disease so they will appear perfectly healthy to you. You also don't know that anyone else at the park takes their dogs in to be vaccinated on a regular basis and you don't want to put your puppy in danger. As far as socalizing for now let him only interact with family member or friends dogs that you know are current on all their vaccines and won't put him in dangers way. Any good puppy classes won't even let you enroll until he is done his set of puppy shots as well. Don't worry, but the time he is done his shots its not by any means to late to start socalizing him with other dogs. However, in the mean time you can start socalizing him with people.
Puppies can catch Parvo from adult dogs. Check with your vet to find out the age at which you can SAFELY bring your puppy to the park-- and when you do bring him there-- wtach OUT for Aggressive dogs.
You shouldn't take him to a dog park until he's had all his shots. You can take him out for walks closer to home after he's had at least his first two shots, but nowhere there's a lot of dogs.
make sure he has ALL his shots especially Parvo and keep him on a flea/tick medicine first
What I would do is take him to the park every once in a while, but don't take him inside the actual park...
Just walk him around the outside and see how he reacts to the other dogs..
Some parks have an age requirement, check for that :)

Good Luck! =)
Hello %26 not until the puppy's vaccinations have taken affect..so ASK your vet for the best time after the vaccinations, cuz it depends on when they have them ..Take Care :)
after he has all his shots at his age and his vet say its okay
It is unhealthy for you to bring your dog to the park that this young age. Puppies need to have all of their puppy shots... (usually 3 rounds of shots).. before they go around the other dogs for your puppies protection. Ask your vet... he will tell you.
yes, too early to take away from mom.

he has to be fully immunised before you take him to the park, or he is likely to get parvo or something else and die.

you also need to be worming and defleaning him consistently and treating him for heartworm.
.
It's not a matter of age but a matter of whether they have gotten all of their shots and boosters. The dog park is full of things they can get and 6 weeks is a very young and weak immune system.
I've heard taking your dog once after he/she has had all her shots which would be around 4 months old. I've seen and including myself taken my puppy to the park at three months. Technically you can get parvo practically anywhere.
Just be cautious, and I would at least wait until they are around three months and have had some of their shots.
My dog is part american bulldog and part great dane. :)
Usually at 16 weeks, when he for sure has had all his shots.
its never to early,he will love
Get your puppy all of his shots first as they can catch things from other dogs. Owners who take the time to take their dog to the dog park are normally very punctual with vet visits, flea/tick and heartworm medication, but you also want to respect that and take care of the pup's medical needs first. I would probably wait until he's a few months old. I've taken my dog to the dog park and all of the dogs will run to sniff the new dog entering and for a puppy, this can be very scary and they might become submissive too soon which will cause the other dogs to push it around a bit rougher than they should. If he stands his ground and lets them sniff, then he should be ok. When you do take him, maybe carry him first so he can see all the hustle and bustle first, or keep him on leash so if things get carried away it will be easy to pick him up before he gets hurt. If he seems to be doing ok and the other dogs are ok, then you can let him off the leash. I've just seen the dogs pick on young puppies that haven't learned to hold their ground yet, and then end up running which causes the dogs to run after the puppy and it becomes tough for the owners to catch their dogs. They mean no harm, its just they sometimes play too rough for puppies. Contrary to that, I've seen little dogs kick some big dog butt, but that's because they hold their ground and growl if they're unhappy or whatever and the other dogs respect it. If the dogs are anything like my big Dane/Shepherd lug, they'll roll over and let the little dogs climb all over them!
If it's vaccinated and you keep your eye on it go for it. It'll be fun. Some places have small dog parks as well as parks for big dogs. You might want to look into that. I think it's a great way to socialize your dog. But, like I said, don't take your eye off it as some owners in these places don't control their animals that well.
Not before 16 weeks of age. Dogs NEED to have ALL of their vaccinations, including rabies which can not be given before 16 weeks of age, before going to the dog park. Six weeks is definately WAY too young to be going to the dog park. All dogs going to the dog park should be healthy and vaccinated, but we all know that not everyone follows the rules. You can't risk exposing him to something at the park before his immune system has developed.

Try to find some other people with puppies and with older dogs who do well with puppies and set up play dates with them. You can call around to vets and groomers or ask around at the dog park to see if there are any "puppy kindergarten" classes...classes specifically for young puppies in your area. Not only will these classes be a good place to introduce him to other dogs for socialization purposes but they will also be a great opportunity for you to learn about puppy basics. Don't just try to socialize him with other dogs either. Introduce him to lots of different kinds of people too...different genders, different ages, disabled people, people in uniforms. And lots of different surfaces...grass, concrete, hard wood floors, tile floors, metal grates (with holes/spacing that aren't large enough his feet can get caught or slip through), mulch, plastic. Local playgrounds can be a great place for socialization if they don't specifically ban dogs. There are usually people of many age groups there (young children, older children, teens babysitting younger children, adults and seniors watching their kids and grandkids) and many different surfaces (slides, forts, etc) and there is less of a risk of coming into contact with dog diseases than at the dog park (as long as you keep up with the vaccination schedule then you should be ok). Public places (walks around the block, public parks) do carry a risk of diseases but I feel that the risk of an undersocialized dog is greater than the risk of your dog catching a disease at one of these places as long as you stick to your vaccination schedule. Dog parks and pet stores on the other hand are known to be frequented by many dogs and by owners with all levels of experience and responsibility. To me, these public places have too great a risk of disease. Plus it's usually against most dog park rules to bring a dog who hasn't had all of their vaccines.
You should wait at VERY least til he has had 2 vaccinations, 3 would be much better.. You can socialize him around people at home, and take him places where people don't take their dogs generally, you want to keep him from coming in contact w/ other dogs and places other dogs frequent. I take puppies w/ me to the bank, the girls make a huge fuss over puppies. Sorry about the other people in line behind me, but who can resist a puppy, and hey, it's great socialization :)
Hi,
The reason dog's shouldn't leave their mom before 8 weeks is between 6-8 weeks is when they learn a lot of their social behavoir, so as soon as your little guy gets all his shots, I would socialize him as much as possible since he's already at a disadvantage socially. Get him around other dogs and don't be surprised if he gets a few corrections such as growls, snarls, etc. from the other dogs. It's just what his mama would have used to teach him. Unless another dog is acting really aggressive all around, it's probably just teaching your puppy what is and is not acceptable bahavoir. I think the dog park will be a great tool as soon as he's totally vaccinated.

What is The Dumb Test for picking an animal? Is it OK to use that term? Are there any better ways to say it?

Just came up in convo today, and I was sensitive to the words and the tone I thought I heard used with it.
I'm hypersensitive anyway, so I figured I'd ask pet lovers!
Answers:
What's wrong with Intelligence test?? Unless you are looking for a dumb dog?
You can call it the ''Intelligence Test''. To see just how smart your animal is (and not ''how dumb they are'').
Are you talking about the breed selector test??

Intelligence in a dog is important. I'd look for one that is not dumb.

What is the discharge that is coming from my Chihuahua's urethra area?

the discharge is kinda yellow creamy looking it is not much just a drop, It seeems to only happen when he is outside, could this be his scent? He is 6 months old
Answers:
It's smegma. It's a normal discharge and occurs when your dog is raeching puberty. It acts as a lubricant and usually is more present just after your dog urinates.
my dog does that too. im gonna get him to the vet this weekend.
It may be a yeast infection, or maybe dried pee. If you are concerned, take your pup to the vet!
Sometimes a small discharge is normal but just to be safe, have a vet check it out.
Your dog bought a cheap prostitute and BAM! gonorrhea!
Take your dog to the vest ASAP! For a proper treatment, and your peace of mind. Best Wishes and give your dog a big hug from all of us!
Vet. Time,Or A Blast Of Pennicillan May Be In Order,You Can Buy And Administer Yourself,Depending On Weight Of Dog. Just Make Sure You Give Proper Dosage And "Complete" Two or Three Days Of Shots..Maybe Even A Week.Vet. Prolly "BEST"
It is normal, and it usually stops at about 12-18 months old or when you get the dog neutered if you choose to. It is nothing to worry about, and there is no way to make it stop unless you neuter him, you just have to wait it out.
I suggest you visit http://www.dogsvets.net and consult a vet for free

What is the diffrence between k9advantage and frontine?Which is better in your opinion?

The frontline seems to work 100% better for fleas, but I was told it does not work on mosquitos. With k9 my inside dog had fleas after a week and a half with frontline it lasts one month NO FLEAS.But I am concerned about heart worms which comes from mosquitos.Does k9 really keep them away? What should I use?HELP
Answers:
I live in the woods so it is very important that I get a really good flea AND tick AND mosquitoes. Frontline will kill fleas and ticks, But K9Advantix(Not advantage) is the best. It not only kills the tick and fleas, But it repels ticks fleas and mosquitoes. I have never seen one tick or flea on our dogs. And the mosquitoes won't even land on the dogs while we are being eaten alive.

I highly recommend K9Advantix. It is the ONLY thing I will ever use again. Plus it is water proof, which is important for us because the dogs swim in the river a lot

SMILE

I get ours from

http://www.1800petmeds.com/index.asp?aff...

Because our vet only carries frontline. He had referred me to Petmed. He said they are a reliable on line company.
I have never had a problem with K9 not working.

I am serious, I have NEVER seen a tick, or flea on our dogs. We have 5 right now.
I prefer Sentinel for dogs, it does fleas, ticks, mites, heart worms and other worms. That is what I use for my dogs.
We go from one to the other every once in a while because it seems that some dogs, after a while, don't get the same level of protection.

A couple years ago we found that stuff available on the web way cheaper than at the vet. After some research we found out that a lot of the stuff sold on the web was fake... It was actually a pet store that told us because they'd had some.
Frontline is good for more of city life because it doesn't work on misquitos like K9 does... like around a lot of water!
I would suggest K9, it kills not only the fleas, ticks and mosquito's, but also it kills the eggs and repeals them. Make sure you wash your dog with some oatmeal shampoo then apply the K9, it might take another dose a few weeks after the first one. If your inside dog got fleas right away you will have to use a flea bomb for your house too. It's most likely that you have fleas in your couch and so on. Good luck !!

What is the difference(s) between a puppy mill and a dog breeder are?

Answers:
There are really 3 categories:

Professional Breeder - Someone that has all the necessary health checks done on their dogs, breeds to standard, often shows or competes with their dogs and doesn't care about the money involved with breeding. Their aim is to improve the breed.

Backyard Breeder - "Hey, I have a lab and you have a lab, let's breed them". Often don't have health certificates or care about the lines of their dogs. Know nothing about the whelping process and come to PetQnA.com with questions like "Is my dog in labor?". They think just because they have a papered dog, it's OK to breed it.

Puppy Mills - Don't care about the health or standards of their dogs, they're just in it for the money. The dogs are over bred, inbred and kept in appalling conditions. Many use UKC or CKC as registries because AKC doesn't recognize their breed (Mixed Designer dogs) or because they've bred un-registered dogs and UKC or CKC will register anything that walks.
a puppy mill puts out puppies regardless of overbreeding and inbreeding.
Areputable breeder will have all the paper work to show that the puppy is not his mothers 1st cousin
Hi! That's a good question! I've included a link to a little chart describing it, but I'll highlight some of the main point of that page in here.

I think you have to consider intention. I reputable breeder is doing so for the betterment of the breed NOT to make money. A good breeder will have their dogs health certified and will have shown the dog in conformation, thus insuring the health and temperament of the animals. Puppy Mills are all about the process of making mroe puppies, no matter what the consequences!

http://www.shilohshepherds.com/puppybree...
this question has been ask a lot. I use to give a long list on the difference but i figure I might as well save all the typing and just say this..A breeder cares A puppy mill doesn't .. there you go all wrap up for you lol
Good answers above.
A responsible breeder breeds only to preserve and improve the breed they are dedicated to. They are not breeding to make money or supply the pet market. A responsible breeder will not do a breeding until after much study %26 experience they have determined that the mating of a particular male to a particular female will produce offspring that constitue a viable contribution to the breed.
Being dedicated to a chosen breed entails much more than producing puppies. It is these same responsible breeders who found, fund %26 man the Breed Rescue Groups, who fund and participate in studies of canine health issues, who educate the public, mentor aspiring breeders, and in general dedicate their lives to the welfare of their breed.
Here are some suggested questions one can use to determine if a breeder is truly responsible:

1. Is she an AKC registered breeder of good standing and an active member of her breed Parent Club?

2. Are there AKC Champions listed on the pedigree, showing that the breeder spends her time %26 money to prove the quality of her breeding stock through competition?

3. Are all the animals kept in clean, comfortable, healthy, loving circumstances?

4. Did the breeder conduct extensive interviews with you and every member of your family?

5. Have the sire %26 dam received all available health clearances, (eg. OFA Hip %26 Eye, Thyroid testing, THESE VARY FOR EACH BREED)

6. Is she willing to honestly discuss any possible genetic defects that may exist in her line?

7. Does she have a Sales Contract?

8. Does the contract contain a clause stipulating that you spay or neuter the puppy before it reaches a certain
age?

9. Does the contract contain a clause stating that if at any time in the puppy's life, you can no longer care for it, it must be returned to the breeder? (This ensures that no animal bred by this breeder will ever end up in a shelter).

10. Will the breeder maintain contact with you for the life of the puppy to answer questions and help in general?
That's a big question but basically..

Puppymills breed dogs that are not quality dogs, and think nothing about health.
Breeders know and test for the health problems that are known to the breed.

Puppymills tend to sell to anyone, Don't care where the puppy ends up.
Breeders want to know where puppies are going, and want them living in the home etc.

Puppymills breed for a colour, or a size, they tend to breed for what is the fad for today.
Breeders breed to better the breed, breed a litter to incorportate something, fix a problem etc... They have something in mind when doing the breeding.

Puppymills never want to see you again, unless you are coming back to buy another puppy.
Breeders want to hear from you so that they can hear how things are going, so they can make good breeding decisions in the future.

Puppymills don't care if you breed your dog, and even use the fact that you could make big money to sell puppies.
Breeders sell puppies on spay/neuter agreements or spay/neuter before the puppies go to homes. Cause it's the responsible thing to do..

There are TONS more differences but you get the idea.
Here, this makes it easy to understand

http://www.shilohshepherds.com/puppybree...
When I purchased my English Mastiff, My husband has been researching on this breed for 10 years. So we knew how much money spend and what good qualities would come with it, i.e, AKC, no imbreeding, OFA, PRA ect. I used AKC's website. We found Xena the Mastiff locally. So my answer would be contact AKC, they have a website:akc.org

What is the difference in the amounts of protein in the dog...?

foods that i have been looking at? the crude protein levels are any where from 8% to 42%. the dog food i use is 21% crude protein. why is there such a huge difference? how much protein should dogs get? is it better if theres is more or less protein?
Answers:
The majority of dry dog foods are around 24 - 26 % protein, which seems to be adequate for most dogs. Anything lower is definitely not good. What you need to look for in a food is one that has meat as its 1st ingredient. And it should have no corn, corn gluten, wheat, beet pulp or any of the other cheap fillers that dogs don't digest well. Some of the best brands out there are Innova, Canidae, Solid Gold, Wellness, Timberwolf Organics - if you use any of them, you can't go wrong.
Depending on your dog's need, the protein level can be significant. If a dog has a digestive problem, such as liver or kidney problems, you may want to look into a lower percentage of protein. I had a beagle mix with pancreatitis who was on senior dog food (non-active) because it has the lowest percentage of protein. Anything higher would cause her to have seizures.
If your dog is healthy, and has a normal active lifestyle, the protein level you find in most adult dog foods (around 21%) is significant. It gives them the energy they need.
If you have a high performance dog, or one that burns lots of energy (competitive dog sports, running/biking with you) look for a food with a higher protein. The performance blends of dog food are the best because it has other nutrients that work completely with your dog's system while burning energy.

What is the difference between these Purina Dog Foods?

Little Bites, Dog Chow, and Puppy Food

I have a 3 1/2 year old Cocker Spaniel outside, he is eating Dog Chow.
I also have a 4 1/2 year old Jack Russell Terrier inside, he is eating Little Bites.
and we just got a female Jack Russell Terrier puppy last weekend (8 weeks old now) and she is eating Puppy Chow.

I am hoping to consolidate the number of different foods we have to buy... Which should I eliminate? What exactly is the differences between them all? What are the benefits of each for each dog?

Thanks for your help!
Answers:
Check the bag, I think LB and Purina Chow are the same but diff size kibbles. Puppy chow has more calories, protein etc for growing dogs. Many breeders do not feed puppy food, I haven't when I had a pup. Although I use Purina I won't feed any of those as they are not naturally preserved and you have to feed more to get the same results plus the ingredient quality is not as good as a better dog food. If I had to use a grocery store brand I would use ONE. Dogs coats and stools are better on a better dog food..
they are healthier then IAMS
consider changing to Canidae dry dog food, all life stages..this all natural dog food has human grade ingredients, no fillers or foreign junk, no corn or wheat, no beet pulp or salt, and lots of vitamins %26 enzymes that are good for dogs !! it is made in the USA at their own factory with all USA ingredients and has a money back guarantee, if you are unhappy..the all life stages dry food, is good for puppies, regular dogs, senior dogs, and even overweight dogs !! many breeders and PetQnA.com people have used Canidae for years and are very pleased with it !!.i recently changed my 2 dogs from Purina One, Lamb %26 Rice to Canidae %26 my daughter-in-law switched her 3 dogs to Canidae and we are all very happy %26 pleased with Canidae...also, because it is a high quality food without junkie fillers, i can feed my JRTerrier half the portion he used to receive, and half as much elimination on the grass later !!...check their website at ...Canidae.com for more information %26 dealer locations !!...i thought Purina was a good food until these recalls started...Canidae is rated 5 stars of a possible 6 stars on one survey, where Purina is 1 or 2 stars because its first ingredient is corn meal ?? or some grain which dogs don't need !!! Purina also has lots of by-products which are all JUNK !! a good dog food should have beef, or chicken, or lamb, or turkey, or fish..protein as their first ingredients...does Purina...i think not...if you don't want all this good advise from responders...why did you post to begin with ??? Purina is JUNK %26 CRAP...if that's what you want to feed your dogs, DON'T WASTE OUR TIME !!!
quailty is the differents..my step dad is a vet and he never lets me buy food that hows the word chow in it..or any thing less then ims. it has it all from smalll breeds to puppys thats all my puppy eats and he get bigger and biger every month
well to be honest they arent that great of foods but since your using them i would say that the puppy needs the nutrients in the puppy food until hes a year old. so thats out. the indoor dog could maybe switch to dog chow but the bites may be too big for his mouth. so prolly the one to eliminate is the dog chow im sure the cocker wouldnt mind eating the little bites but the jack russell might have problems with a bigger kibble.
Look at the packages.
allright. id suggest getting off any purina food at all. its contains corn in the first two ingredients which does nothing for the dog. it contains byproducts that are chicken feet, feathers.nasty stuff like roadkill too!, it contains dies that are harmful to the kidney and liver, and they have to eat so much of it to get the nutrition they need they end up gaining weight! switching to a holistic brand like Eagle Pack Holistic Select, Innova, Wellness, Canidae. will greatly increase the health of your animal and decrease allergies and what not. Please stay away from all grocery brand products that look for the cheapest ingredients so they can get the most profit.
I've never heard of little bites, but i know some better companies have small bite formuals for littlier dogs. and puppy food has more ingredients that help bone development and brain development and waht not. Please please please stay away from Purina products, iams, eukanuba, science diet, kibbles and bits, whiskas, ol roy, dads...etc... with all these pet food scares id stay far away from companies that had any involvement with it.
Please don;t think I'm being mean, but all Purina products are very low quality. You would be much better off putting them all on something like Wellness which is human grade food. It costs a little more, but because it is not all fillers the dogs eat a lot less of it. Your dogs will be overall healthier too.

You can get a better idea of what foods are good and what are bad from this chart. The Wellness I use is one of the very best:

http://community.inkfrog.com/index.php?a...
If you want to get the very best dog food for your dogs, you'll have to pay for it. Most quality brands cost at least $10 for a 5lbs. bag. The first thing you need to do in finding a good food is to look at the ingredients. The first ingredient listed should be some type of meat. Also dogs' bodies aren't good at processing grains, so stay away from foods with corn and other grains. Brown rice is okay, though. Also try to stay away from foods with animal by- products in them. These can literally be things such as chicken beaks. As far as the puppy goes, you will probably want to keep her on a puppy food until she is about 1 year old. If you ever have any other food questions I'm sure your vet will be more than happy to help you. I know the good dog foods are expensive, but my vet and dog trainer have always told me you get what you pay for in dog food.
Yea, look at the ingredients on the bag...so you can compare. I personally would not continue giving the dogs Purina...there are so many different corn products that are unnessary for them.

I have a jack russell and I feed her Innova. Also consider Canidae, Wellness, etc. There really is a big difference in the ingredients.Purina has a lot of junk in it.
All I have to say is read the ingredients in the food!

It is full of fillers like corn and it has By-Product in it. This food is not good for any animals!

Wellness is a great natural food to try. You get what you pay for!
you could just get the little bites to feed your older dogs but should keep the puppy chow until your puppy is old enough for the adult brands because the puppies need the additional calories for their growing bodies.
You have to compare the ingredients on the bags to find out the differences between the foods. I don't recommend Purina b/c corn meal and meat by-products are the first 2 ingredients listed on most of their dry food. Corn and by-products are not easily digestible by your dog and can lead to increased bowel movement and/or stomach ache. Also, they have no nutritional value so it's like feeding your dog junk food simply to fill him up.

Look for a food without corn and that has chicken, lamb, etc listed as a main ingredient...no by-products! Nutro Natural Choice lamb %26 rice dog food is a good choice.
Canidae has a food that is for ALL life stages. Yes, it is a little more expensive, but you actually feed less because less passes through. Fillers are of no nutritional value what so ever, they make your dog feel full for a brief time, then pass right through.

Canidae (has a little rice)
Innova (no rice or grains)
Wellness
Origin
There is nothing wrong with Purina foods. People love to slam Purina because they are the big guy on the block.
I have nine titled show Champions here, all on Purina diets, plus an AAQ Master Hunter (see avatar) that is also on a Purina diet. And quite franklly thay are on Purina diets because THEY WIN on it.
I would suggest that there are better Purina products than the ones you are using. The Purina One line from the grocery store or Pro-Plan line from a feed store are much better quality.
Purina is an ok food, not great but ok. The reason many dog people don't like it, is because of all the fillers which means the dog has to eat more to keep the right weight and they end up pooping more, because they can't digest all the filler.

Purina ONE is better or Purina Pro Plan. Those are the only Purina foods I would feed these days. Many dogs get dry skin on Dog Chow, but not all.

Why do you have a dog that you keep outside? Cockers love to be with their families. If it pees when it gets excited or because it is submissive you can get the dog over that, through desensitizing it.

As long as you are happy with your dogs' skin and coat and they are doing well, that's what I use to grade my food.

I feed Innova EVO, but my dogs burn off calories really fast right now.
The Purina Pro Plan is good for your adult dogs. They have it the small bites too so you can feed it to both. The puppy, however, needs the extra nutrients in the puppy food. Thats why I went with Pro Plan - - It also contains DHA which is good for growing pups. When your pup is 12-18 months old, you should have no problem adjusting it to the adult food. Don't let anyone tell you anything about the food you feed them. I do want to say, though, that when I switched my puppy from Iams to Pro Plan, she doesn't have close to the amount of waste as she used to. That's very important to me. And the Pro Plan Selects is all natural, if you are into that sort of thing.

What is the difference between the AKC and the CKC?

I'm talking rules and regulations, not quality of pups... Does the AKC have higher standards? Stricter?
Answers:
First, most important question: By "CKC" do you mean "Canadian Kennel Club" or "Continental Kennel Club"?

The Canadian Kennel Club is the Canadian equivalent of the AKC, and therefore very similar. There are actually some things about the CKC that I prefer to the AKC.

The Continental Kennel Club was started by individuals who were suspended from the AKC, or couldn't adhere to its standards/pass its inspections. The ConKC is generally considered a low-quality, puppy-mill registry -- for profit and willing to register anything with 4 legs.
Yes. AKC has strict standards and regulations, CKC (and UKC) tend to register anything that has 4 legs.

If the breed of dog you want is an AKC recognized breed, you should make sure that the breeder you buy from has registered all the dogs and pups with the AKC.
If by CKC you mean Continental Kennel Club, they pretty much have no standards. Having a dog registered with them is meaningless.
American Kennel Club
Canadian Kennel Club

I do not know much about the Canadian Kennel Club. But i do know that the AKC and the United Kennel Club have a lot of differences, and the UKC seems a bit more relaxed.
If by CKC you mean Continental Kennel Club, yes the AKC has higher/stricter standards. The CKC seems to have none but the color of your money.
Yes, the AKC has higher standards. You can tell by comparing the breed standards from the www.akc.org site and the www.ckc.org site. The AKC standard is much longer and more detailed than the CKC standard. It is also more difficult to get a new breed accepted into the AKC, which you can tell by the number of breeds in the AKC versus the CKC.

Oops, yes, and that is the Continental Kennel Club, not the Canadian...I took that for granted. Sorry to those Canadian Kennel Club people out there. (Thanks, Loki_Wolfchild).
I agree with the first poster. Only AKC check the actual quality of the dog and bloodline before registering. Other kennel clubs just want money in exchange for 'registering' your dog- some of them even sell 'titles' that are supposed to be earned through shows! AKC has strict standards for breeds and breeding and is the American authority in the dog world.

What is the difference between presa canario and dogo canario?

Answers:
No difference between them.
Some people call it Presa canario and some call it Dogo canario.
Nothing :)
The Perro de Presa Canario is a Molosser type dog from the Canary Islands. This large breed was originally bred as a multi-purpose farm dog, being used as a cattle drover and guard dog. The name means the "Canarian Dog of Prey" and is sometimes simply called "Presa."

dogo canario %26 Presa Canario are SAME.
there is no difference between presa canario and dogo canario. Dogo canario is just an alternative name for presa canario

What is the difference between marrow bone and rib bone?

I have a boston terrier who is into a chewing stage.. I was told not to give rib bone cuz it might choke on the rib and marrow bone is best cuz of its toughness. I often cook steak on the grill (Tbone, sirlon, etc).. is it safe to give bone after I finish with my steak?
Answers:
Marrow is the substance INSIDE the bone - not a bone itself. Cooked bones become brittle and can splinter - that's the danger. No bones. If you MUST - use only raw bones. But hey, how about some safe toys and a bunch of love and attention!!! Your puppy is just teething. Try some ice cubes in the water dish. It's soothing (like a babies teething ring), fun and easy to wipe up. Good luck and enjoy your dog.!!!
no do not give cooked bones. the can splinter and hurt the dog on the inside. only give raw bones or smoked bones from a butcher.
It's matter's mostly about the size.
2 inches=fine
3 inches=supervise pet
50,000000 yards= crocidile diet!!!!
Marrow bones refers to the cut sliced horizontally across the leg bone from a cow, usually about 3 " long go to the butcher or grocery store to ask for, put in the freezer first to help kill bacteria , thaw in the fridge and serve as is, knuckle ends are good as well they are the ends of the leg bones, the dogs really enjoy chewing the soft cartiledge on the ends

What is the difference between an F1 cockapoo and an F2 cockapoo?

I keep hearing it but I never understand what's the difference, I mean they're both cockapoos, right?
Answers:
The F1 generation is pure cocker to pure poodle and the results are relativly predictible and consistant as to apperance qualities such as shedding. F2 is cockapoo to coockapoo and not very predictable.
Cockapoos are considered 1st generation (F1) if the parents are pure cockers and pure poodle. Cockapoo to Cockapoo is 2nd generation (F2) and progressing F2 to F2 begets F3 - etc. For recording purposes we take the lowest F factor to 'label' the progeny. Thus and F6 to and F2 would be considered an F3. They are still cockapoos as long as the origin was 1/2 cocker and 1/2 poodle and nothing else has been mixed in along the way, and it stays cockapoo to cockapoo without adding back in any poodle or cocker.
No, neither are "COCKAPOOS". They are MUTTS that SHED!

What is the difference between an american staffordshire terrier and an american pitbull terrier?

Answers:
American Staffordshire Terriers are essentially the "show" version of the American Pit Bull Terrier. The AKC selected some American Pit Bull Terriers to register as American Staffordshire Terriers and through selective breeding over the years developed the American Staffordshire Terriers we know today. They bred out red noses and Amstaffs for the most part come from show lines, where as APBT's a lot of times come from game-bred lines.

An AKC registered American Staffordshire Terrier can be registered as American Pit Bull Terrier with UKC as well, but an American Pit Bull Terrier can not be registered with AKC, unless the parents are.

So mainly, the differences are in registration and bloodlines, but they can have a slightly different appearance, as UKC standards for the APBT and AKC standards for the Amstaff have a few small differences.

Hope this is helpful
it's just a facier way of saying it. Same dog, one sounds nicer so it's less hated
Just the name..If you say you have an American Staffordshire Terrier, people are impressed by the name..If you say you have a pitbull, they freak out !! OMG !!! a pitbull? they're killer dogs.
