What is the best breed of dog and why?

Answers:
greyhounds are the best.. loving, fun, great pets. i need not say anymore. They're the best...
a Heinz 57.
a mongrel.
the most balanced of dogs is one with no particular breed traits.
The best breed of dog is the one that is bred to fit your lifestyle. A dog I think is the best may not be the best for you. But to me its the Chihuahua, lovable, cuddly, affectionate and I can bring him almost everywhere including work.
I, personally, believe there is no 'best' breed.
People may answer you with 'POODLE' 'LAB' or 'BASSET HOUND' but it is all their personal preferance.
Same with you.
You may look up all the dog breeds and find the Viszla is the best.
Personally, i have about 10 favorite breeds but thats because of my personal experience and what i like in a dog.
So, whether you are looking into adopting a dog or just wanting to find out what others like, I suggest you do some research on differant dog breeds to find your favorite.
German Shepherd , Will protect your family , very loyal , great with kids , very inteligent with a loving personallity.
This is a simple question to answer, the best breed is the one who suits you best. Dogs are dogs, and they have been bred to fit personalities and jobs as needed. If you are an outdoor person and love to run and hike then you would want a dog suitable to this type of life style. If you want a lap dog you are going to pick one of the small breeds. So the best Dog is the one you pick to share your life!
Cocker spaniel, and Nova Scotia Duck Toller :D
I have two dobermans, they are great guard dogs and also
great family dogs.
i like them all, actually i'm thinking about getting a St. Bernard. i know they are huge, but i live alone i could use the "protection".
my favorite "breed" are mutts, the ones nobody wants.
No best breed. It is one that works with you. Meaning when you go to the pet store or go and see puppies and you look at one of them and you know deep down that is the one. I want that one. You couldn't have it any other way. That is your dog and it doesn't matter the breed.

English springer spaniel. I prefer liver and white. This dog is best for ME because they are very affectionate, easygoing, and have tons of energy-I am a hiker and swimmer. They are kind to strangers, and I take my dog w/me every where, so this is important for me. Lastly, I think they are beautiful and regal.
The best breed of dog is the one that matches the households lifestyle and sense of authetics.
I suggest you get ahold of the book:
"The Right Dog of You" by Tortora
It is availble in many libarys and contains many questions to help people understand what type of dog will be best for them bases on the grooming needs, sheding tendencies, exercise needs, sociability of the people and breed, etc.
This question has a lot of answers. It can be something different to everyone depending on what you are looking for in a companion. You need to choose a dog based on what you can provide for them and what you want in return. I mean you don't want a Great Dane in a tiny apartment locked up all day. Check the web for breeds and the qualities of them and check your local shelter for info and dogs to adopt. You could find a friend for life I did.
A best breed for what? There are so many different breeds that are bred for specific purposes such as herding, guarding, hunting and pulling. What are you looking for?
I am sure everyone thinks their own dog is the best breed and they will say because they are loyal, protective and great dogs but those are all just opinions. If you are looking for something specific you need to research.
That all depends on the persons living arangements and enviroment. You don't want to have a small short haired breed in Alaska nor a thick long haired breed in Texas,,,, there are alot of facters that weigh in on this question..Like do we have or will have kids, can we afford a small or a large dog, long hair or short hair..the cost of the dog,do we live in an apartment or a house...So many situations you cant really say what the best dog is with out narrowing down the living situations.
Just my opinion but i'd say a German Shepard (GSD) I was brought up with one and have had my own since I was old enough to take care of a dog on my own. They are very loving, protective, obedient (haha most of the time) and you can have a good laugh with them.

Its up to you though, obviously a little old lady wouldn't think that a big GSD was the best for her. Its whatever you prefer and can handle.
Well obviously this is my personal opinion but my 2 favourites are Bearded Collie's and Saluki's. I own 1 of each (as I'm sure you guessed by now) and they are both great but in different ways.

Saluki's are graceful and agile and very affectionate to their owners but very distant with anyone else.

Beardies are bouncy and playful and love everybody.

It depends on your lifestyle. If I had a young child and had to have only 1 dog a Beardie would be better than a Saluki as kids can play rough and Beardie's are OK with that where as if accidentally stood on or anything Saluki's get very upset and sulk (yes dogs can sulk.)

If your looking for a dog you should find some breeds you like and phone breeders of each and discuss your lifestyle and where you live with them to see if that breed would be suitable.
No such thing as best breed. It's whatever dog suits your lifestyle. For me it's any cross breed from a rescue centre that gets on well with other dogs and children. Cross breeds generally have better health as they do not suffer from genetic problems caused by too much in breeding.. I have a collie x lab, a collie x whippet and a whippet x beagle. All three are gorgeous and the best in the world to me.

What is the best breed of a Dog that can be easiLy trained but cute and small..!?

Answers:
You may want to look into getting a papillon.

Papillons have very friendly, adventurous temperaments. From the AKC breed description, "Happy, alert and friendly. Neither shy nor aggressive."
http://www.akc.org/breeds/papillon/...

Papillons are very intelligent (sometimes too much so for their own good!). They are in the top 10 most intelligent dogs breeds.
http://petrix.com/dogint/1-10.html...

They stay small:
They are in the "toy" group in AKC: http://www.akc.org/breeds/toy_group.cfm...
Height: Males 8-11 inches (20-28cm) Females 8-11 inches (20-28cm)
Weight: Males 8-10 pounds (4-5kg.) Females 7-9 pounds (3-4kg)
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/papillon.htm...

One of the "most trainable toy breeds".
http://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/reviews...

They come in a variety of colors to meet your fancy:
http://www.braylorspapillons.com/colors.

Also, if you want to get into agility, they are the top choice in their height category. (They can even beat border collie times on some courses, but due to size difference, they will never be competing against border collies.)

(Note: They are a high-energy breed of dog, so if you want a laid back lap-dog, a papillon may not be for you. But if you want an active, spunky dog, papillons are a wonderful choice!)

Great looks, great temperament, great personalities, definitely a superb breed of dog! :D
shih tzu! the most gentle and kind breed i know!
Research into the Puggle
recently recognized --- cross of the pug and beagle
brilliant, energetic, smart, and tons of fun !!
chiuahaha (lol I dont think thats spelled right)
Go to www.akc.org %26 find which breed suits you best. Some small breeds that do well with training are Papillions, Shetland Sheepdogs and Corgis - both the Pembroke %26 Cardigan. Because of their intelligence, tractability and eager to please personalities, you always see many of these competing in AKC obedience %26 other events like agility %26 flyball.
A Toy or Miniature Poodle would be great. They are very smart, almost non-shedding little dogs. Remember to research the breed and to find a reputable breeder via the Parent Club. See http://www.akc.org for the Parent Club of the breed.

There is NO SUCH THING as a "TEACUP", "MINIATURE" or "TOY" breed. Obviously with the only exceptions being Toy Poodle, Miniature Poodle, Miniature Schnauzer, Miniature Pinscher and ... that's all.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "PUGGLE". IT'S SIMPLY A *MUTT* BRED *INTENTIONALLY* FOR *MONEY* AND *ONLY* MONEY! *NOT* RECENTLY RECOGNIZED BY THE AKC! If you want a mutt, go to your local SPCA and adopt one.
A Jack Russell definitely. They're the best. I have two and both of them have not given me any problems at all. They're really easy to train and they're cute and small. They pick up things real fast. (:

鈾?
you should definetly get a pomeranian
especially if you live in an apartment
they are cute, but quite spoiled
i have one myself and i love him to bits
and i have trained him to walk at my side when i walk him without his leash for less than a month
and i have trained him the general commands in less than 4 months
and they are soooo cute
especially the teacup pomeranians
Miniature Schnauzer all the way!!!!
They are very very smart, amazingly cute, and housebrake in less than 3 days if YOU are consistant in bringing it outside. And they are very laid back but not so much they are boring. There is a lot of info on the web about them do your research.

When any puppy does go in the house, you don't say a word to them because they don't know and they will begin to associate going with negative reactions.

If you catch them in the act, just deeply say no no. That is all it takes and a lot of praise when going outside. But when you praise speak in your normal voice.

Also, while they are going tell them in your normal voice hurry up more than once so that they will be able to go on command when older. IT REALLY WORKS.

What is the best breed for me.?

I'm looking for a big dog that can be a guard dog in the house. I want one that doesn't shed alot or druses everywhere. The dog needs to be good with kids and easy to train.
Answers:
Any mixed breed of dog will be just as good a guard dog as a pure breed.Look in the shelters for Shepherd mixes,Doberman mixes,Lab Mixes or even Hound mixes. All of these cross breeds or pure breeds will be good with kids and good watch dogs. As far as shedding goes. All dogs shed.If you want to cut down on the amount of hair, go to a grooming salon every 8 weeks from spring to fall.
a German shepherd is a great dog with kids and they are very easy to train and plus the are cute and dont drool
I have a huge lab. he sheds, but you dont need to groom him because he doesnt have a really think coat like german shepards. they also make excellent guard dogs and are wonderful with kids
a german shepard, they dont drool, and they are great with kids. i hav a german shepard/retreiver mix and they are the best dogs!
Well, here's one that sheds but it's a great babysitter: Great Pyrenees dog. It's also a very calm dog, %26 just the sheer size of it is enough to ward off any intruders.

For more info, browse the breeds at puppyfinder.com

It has an on-line questionnaire you fill out %26 it recommends some breeds for you.
german shepards. They are great guard dogs
Any tipe of of sporting dog
a akita i good guard big fast and powerful loyal smart great with your kids real nice looking dog

What is the best bread of dogs for a 2 year old baby?

Answers:
the best bread of dog would be one made of flour, yeast and a pinch of love.
English Bulldogs,Beagles and Rotweillers. Small dogs are not recommended.
A stuffed one would be best. Ty makes some really cute stuffed dogs! I have a stuffed lab and it is so soft and nice!
mastifs, even though they're a larger breed they're very good with children and are born protectors
golden retrievers are known for their placidness, border collies are both placid and very intelligent, dont go for jack russells they are snappy as are most small dogs.
there are way too many to list. do you want a big dog or a small dog? a puppy or an adult? if you want a big dog there are alot of gentle giants out there such as a great dane or a great pyranese. a medium sized dog thats good with kids? how about a collie or a setter? a small dog? a shitz zu or a pekenese. there are many more. a collie or a setter would prolly be the most tolerant and gentle to a baby.
Labrador Retrievers make good pet dog for young children. They are docile, protective and love children. They are dogs you can trust around your child. we had one for 18 years ,and he was very good with our kids.
A stuffed teddy... People often want to raise baby with dog.. and lots of times people have wonderfully fond memories and stories about the dog the grew up with. But honestly it is alot of work to raise a dog properly, housetraining, obedience training, crate training, socialization, etc. I would wait til baby is 5 and not a baby and can be taught to be respectful of animals and dog's ears and tails and other things. Enjoy your baby and add puppy when baby leaves for school and you suddenly find yourself with time to kill and need someone else to care for and raise like a baby..

Or do what you want, you likely will anyhow... :(
Well hopefully this is going to be your dog, as a 2-year old is totally incapable of caring for a dog.

That said, a Golden Retriever or Labrador is the best for around kids. They are sweet natured, and when mature are strong enough and built well enough to handle the rough play a toddler can put them through. They are naturally protective, and adore children. Be careful to find a reputable breeder, goldens are prone to hip dysplasia (as are many big dogs)and epilepsy. Grand Pyrenees are also excellent dogs for kids. There are tons of good websites for information about these dogs.

Before you buy a purebred though, please consider adopting through your local animal shelter. There are so many great dogs gassed every year for lack of good homes, and many of them are labs or lab mixes. If you're worried about the dog's past, get a puppy and let them grow up together. I can honestly say the best dogs I've had have been rescue dogs. Mixed breeds are also less prone to the genetic predispositions (see above, dysplasia, etc) and skin problems than pure-bred dogs. So they can be a lot cheaper in both the short and long run.

Good luck.
A stuffed one. Seriously 2 yr is too young to have a dog. Wait until he is a little older. Everyone will be happier.
Labrador Retrievers they are the most fun loving, affectionate, devoted, intelligent (easy to train) versatile dogs. My nephews and nieces do whatever they want to my Labs and they just take it all in stride. When I babysit the infants my Labs watch them and when they cry the dogs come get me. My 5 month niece pulls my Labs nose and ears and he just sits there. With the 2 two year olds both Labs get the brunt of the "terrible twos" and they have no problems taking it. Labs are just VERY loving and devoted to their people.
we just bought out 2 year old a Black lab they get along great, and they don't have a aggressive temperament like rottweilers CAN have. We have both but the lab is best for a 2 year old
you know, I would try a lab or a retriever, they tend to be very mellow considerate dogs, and if they are pups and grow up with her, they wont bother her at all, but make sure when you go to get a pup, that you bring your little one with you and make sure they get along and she isn't afraid of it!

What is the best brand to feed my 5 month old pitbull?

Answers:
Science Diet is CRAPPPPPP. Have you people LOOKED at the ingredients?! I wouldnt ever give that to my dog.

The best, yet affordable, dog food is Canidae.
http://www.canidae.com
No by products, fillers, corn, wheat or soy. Its ALL natural and very healthy for your dog.

You can also look into Innova and California Natural:
http://www.naturapet.com/ I feed my 2 dogs Innova (about 40 bucks for a 30lb bag) and its one of the BEST foods out there.

Hope this helps!
the best food to give your 5 moth old pit is Science Diet or Royal Cainnan. i have 4 pits
science diet is the best I feed that to my dog and she has never gotten sick. They use all natural food.
Pedigree!
Everyone always bashes this answer but I have fed every dog I have ever owned and they have lived LONG happy healthy lives! Never been poisoned by Pedigree but all those other High priced crap was recalled!
Pedigree donates proceeds from every sale
More importantly, have you registered for obedience class and scheduled it for altering?

Any number of puppy feeds are fine. Try Blue Buffalo.
I don't have a pit but I have 5 dogs (4 basset hounds %26 a toy poodle) and the best food I have found is Pro plan. It is highly digestable and they poop a lot less.
There are many great foods out there for dogs right now, if you don't have a problem spending a little more money. When looking for a good food look on the back at the ingredients. The first ingredient should always be meat(chicken,lamb,beef,venison... Never by any type of food that has the first ingredient as corn. Companies use corn as a filler and it is hard for dogs to digest. It has no nutritional value. I have 6 Pits(I work for a pit bull rescue) and I feed Merrick, Innova, Solid Gold, Natural Balance, Canidae, and Natural Choice(by Nutro). These are all holistic foods and have the best quality ingredients. My dogs have done better on these foods then any other brand.
You could spend a small fortune on pet food if you choose to. Read the ingredient list and just make sure the 1st ingredient listed is not corn. Purina diets such as Purina One is a fine choice. Its a decent price. You can get it anywhere and its a quality diet. Purina has been around forever. They were the first pet food company to make prescription diets.
Other quality foods are made by Hills and Waltham.
Science diet! :)

What is the best and cheapest flea medicine for dogs??

My dog has really bad fleas and I don't like them as much as he does. They don't only go to him, but me too! I need to get rid of them, and fast. Is there any kind of medicine that I can put on him that will make the fleas go away and not try to bite me too?
Answers:
Frontline.
Fleas cause Tapeworm. Mosquitos cause Heartworm.
I've had really good luck with the Hartz drops you can buy at the grocery store. Make sure that you get the right one for how much your pet weighs. My dogs have NEVER had fleas, even though we live in a very rural area.
Hartz formula
The best kind is at you vet's office. You should also get heartworm medication for your dog. Fleas can cause heartworms in pets.
While it's not the cheapest, Frontline Plus is one of the safest and most effective products for flea control. It sounds like you may have fleas in your house, as well. You'll have to treat that first, otherwise, it won't do any good to just treat the dog.

By the way, fleas do not cause heartworms..that's mosquitoes. Fleas can carry tapeworms, though.
I would get Gold's flea and tick dog wash ...bathe the dog with it...then get the Hartz flea collors 2 in 1 action fights against fleas/ticks/eggs.etc...

Hartz is a really cheap and good brand to use.

Good luck! Hartz also has flea drops...like to go down the back and their chest with.
Frontline or Advantage. Also get a good household spray and treat everywhere. Not cheap to buy but cheaper than getting lots of different "cheap" stuff that doesn't work and messing about for weeks.
One good session with the right stuff should sort it.
Advantage, you'll need a prescription but its by far the best. I've found that OTC products just don't work as well or at all.

You'll probably also need to fog your whole whole with a flea fogger, Raid makes a good one! : )
Over the counter stuff like shampoos and Hartz do not work. They will not get rid of your fleas. You need to be fast about this. They can get in your carpet and you will never get rid of them. Frontline has not worked for my dogs. They still got fleas. The best by far, any vet will tell you the same is Advantage. If you go to 1800petmeds.com you can get it on there a little cheaper. It is pricey, but worth it. When it comes to fleas, shortcuts do not work.
According to my vet, the cheaper flea medicines are not the best type. Never use the store bought brands on puppies (younger than one year). Dogs do NOT like fleas. They can harm the dog and make him sick. I would get one from your vet. You can find flea remedies (for the home, not the dog) at the store and you will need to take care of all areas of the home, especially all the places the dog sleeps. The vet can give you both flea medicine and shampoo for the dog but I think you need to buy treatment for the home at places that carry "bug sprays".
though hartz may be the cheapest. DO NOT USE IT!!! Ask any vet and they will tell you it is junk. you pay little because it doesnt work, and causes severe sometimes fatal affects on your dog.
I would try a couple of things. First off go to the vet and get some good flea shampoo. that will kill them all right off the bat, and sooth your dogs skin.
Next, get some frontline plus or some k 9 advantage (if you dont have cats)
You might also want to look into some heartworm medicine if you havent already, they can also kill your pup, and come from bugs that could bite your dog if it hasnt been on flea and tick preventer. Also, ticks cause lyme desease, and frontline plus will keep them away
Hartz is pretty good
You want to use either Frontline Plus or advantage. No other product works to kill the life cycles of fleas that's going on during an infestation. Its so much cheaper to spend the money on products that are guaranteed to work than treating your home and pet. You must treat the animal every 30 days to stop the life cycle of the flea for more than 3 months.
If your animal has fleas it inevitably has tapeworms. Take your animal to the vet to pick up either advantage or frontline and to be dewormed due to tapeworms.
First do NOT EVER use Hartz or any other OTC flea product on your dog. They are a big waste of money and can be very, very dangerous to your dog. They can cause serious skin irritations, skin burns, neurological problems, seizures and death. I can't begin to tell you the number of very ill dogs and cats we've had at the hospital because of these products. They use a very potent concentrated pesticide in these products. The pesticide is actually meant for lawns not for use on pets.

You first need to get a good safe product such as Frontline or Advantage then give your dog a good bath with Dawn dishwashing liquid make sure to rinse well then wait 24- 48 hours and apply the frontline or advantage. You will also need to treat your home (do not use bombs as they aren't worth the money).Vaccumn under furniture, around baseboards, couches, chairs mattresses throw the bag away every time in an outside trash container..if you have a heavy flea infestation expect it to take 3-4 months to get it under control.

What is the best kind of dog you can have if one of your kids is allergic but still wants one?

Yes, my brother's kid has an allergy to pet fur.but she really wants one. Any suggestions?
Answers:
No dogs are hypoallergenic. Stay away from the designer/hybrids, they are the WORST! Some are better than others. The child can also be allergic to the saliva. I honestly would skip it for now. The shots and medicine just aren't worth it. None of the household filters work.

It looks like a lot of these people aren't very well acquainted with allergies and allergic reactions. Taking a sick kid to the ER at 3am because they are having trouble breathing is a real laugh riot.
A dog that is fairly hypoallergenic - Poodles, Goldendooldes, Labradoodles, Bichon Frise or very short haired varieties.
Poodle

Shih Tzu

Bichon frise

Maltese
a breed of dog that either hairless or has short hair and doesnt shed as much. What might also help is a lot of benadryl.
We had a Yorkshire Terrier.
They are really hairy, yet the 'dander' didn't seem to bother me or my skin.
Chihuahuas also never bothered me, nor did poodles.
Shih tzus,maltese,yorkies,poodles,b... cresteds i hear, Basicly the non sheding breeds. You could also go with what they call a designer dog which is a cross of the two. Cockers spaniels are also no shed dogs so that means low allergys. Short hair dogs have more allergen problems as they shed alot and loose lots of dander.
The only dog that is fun sweet natured and never loses its fur, is a poodle, they are so good with chidren. Wish you well
BICHON FRISE!
I have asthma and bad allergies, but my husband wanted a dog. We did some research and found that bichons don't shed and do very well with people with allergies. We got our first bichon 3 years ago and loved him so much that we got another bichon a year ago as a playmate. Bichons are also great around kids and very smart!
One with very short hair.
a boxer, would be good, they are excellent with children, and have very short hair. But i think any dog would be ok, just make sure to take care of it, give it a bath weekly and brush it outside. And im sure a doctor could give the kid a allergy medicine.
Poodles are supposed to be very good with people who have allergies. The best part is, they come in toy and standard so you can have whichever size works best for your family. I've heard that poodle mixes are also good for people with allergies. My neighbors have a golden doodle, a golden retriever/poodle mix who is absolutely adorable - he looks like a little tan lamb. Little bundles of energy who are perfect for a family who would want to go out and throw balls and play with the dog in the yard, but they're still gentle with children with good personalities.
Good luck!
Humans are allergic to pet dander which surfaces from a pet's second layer of fur. Most dogs have two layers of fur a top colorful and shiny coat and a bottom more fluffy coat which is the part that "sheds". Many dogs with more wiry flat hair such as pittbulls do not have this second layer. ONe of the few dogs who are a little different are the portuguese water dog who are friendly fluffy little dogs who love to swim, hence it's name, and is very playful and calm and does not have a second layer of fur and does not shed but it's hair falls out and regrows in a more similar fashion to humans which eliminates dander.
The allergies come from pet dander (whats on the fur) and these dont vary too much in different dogs. So that doesnt really matter. But there is powder that you can but at a petstore to sprinkle on the dogs back and rub it in. Im not positive if this works well or not. But I used to work at a petstore and I know we sold it like crazy. Dont listen to anyone who lists dog breeds off to you that would be better than another...it more varies from dog to dog not breed. Dander is almost like dry skin flakes. I went to school to study animals, so Im pretty sure Im right. I wouldnt want her to have a reaction. Also sometimes the doc can give people some medication that reduces allergies. Not sure if they do that for children though.
Havanese. They don't shed and don't bother allergies. I have allergies to dogs also and I have a Havanese, I can stick my face right in his hair and be fine. The Havanese is also a good lively companion for children, they are very loving, playful and not aggressive at all, and they are small but very sturdy.
Yorkshire Terrier all the way! They are great with kids, and are idependent you can leave them alone for hours and they will be good. They are easy for a child to walk, and they shed less than a short haired dog. The only problem with Yorkies are that they have teeth problems and tend to get skin problems as they age. I live with a Yorkie and he lets children pull on him and everything. Most books tell you you to bath and brush your Yorkie once or twice a week but if you get him clipped he won't need to be bathed or brushed but once or twice a month. And as an added plus they are really cool looking dogs. They are also protective, once when I walking my Yorkie a German Shepard got lose and was running at me snarling. I picked up my Yorkie, but he jumped out of my and ran at the Shepard he stopped just in front me stiff and growling, When the dog came at me my Yorkie barked and savagly bite its leg, then the owner came and grabbed his dog. Yorkies have been known to attack people that are trying break in, but if the person coming in is invited by the owner then they are really nice.

Summary: Get a Yorkshire Terrier; they are dander free, loving, patient, sweet, and protective.
labradoodle
