What is your dogs name?

If you have a dog what is its name? I have a 9 year old golden Lab called Frodo and in a few weeks am getting a black Lab puppy, going to call it Amelie.I'd just be interested to know what other people call their dogs and if theres a story behind the name?
Answers:
Hi! I have a rescue centre so I've always got a lot of animals coming and going, therefore I find it helpful to have themes when naming animals and I've taken that over to my own pets too. My dogs are always named after plants - until November I had a Bracken and a Tansy, then Tansy had pups who we called Hazel, Douglas (Fir) and then the break to my rules ... Dougal, but even he is really named after a plant, the tallest tree in Britain is called Dughall Mor or Big Dougal - anyway thats how I keep up with naming loads of pets!!! Amelie is a lovely name btw. Just incase you were wondering; rabbits are usually named after pop stars, rats have "normal human" names (Brian and Andrew were the last in,) mice are named after sports players, hamsters current events - we still have Katrina who came in the day New Orleans was hit by the hurricane, ferrets are cartoon charecters, caged birds are named after charecters from TV comedies and I get my little sister to come up with names for the chickens - so far we have Charlie, Rebbecca, Ollie and Crazy - no theme at all there! Cats on the other hand seem to end up with what ever name suits them!
Hope I haven't bored you to death!!!
x
I have a 2 year old border collie. His name is Paddy. Hubby has irish roots and we liked the name.
Squishy.
I have two dogs, a boy called Luca and a girl called Pimm
my German shepherd's name is Baron.
I have a Shih Tzu called Alfie...just cos it suited him.

He also reminds me of the bloke in the film Alfie, tries to nail any female that moves,,,,,,including the cat.
Jess - a gorgeous Staffie
I used to have Radar - because his ears stuck right up and turned around to catch sounds.
I also had Porkie - because he was just like a little pig when he was a puppy. Radar and Porkie were Yorkies.
Thanks for that question, it has bought my beloved dogs right into my mind and made me smile in memory of them.
:))))
I have a 1 year old Rottweiler called Riley,
I chose it because most Rottweilers are called tyson, or bruce or something!!

Plus i got the name from homeward bound! I loved that film!
Ricky
we have two female Jack Russel Terriers called Meg and Scully
I had a Boxer named Rascal. He was into everything ever since he was born. Smartest dog I ever did see.
Mindy (Mini-minz)- Black female Cockerspaniel
I have a beagle and his name is Rusty, he got his name because he has brown spots on legs and muzzle and they look like rust spots.
I have a bernese moutain dog called Roxy. Before we had seen her we had reduced it down to 2 names - Roxy and Kayley. When we saw her, she was the biggest pup in the litter and was roughing up the other pups. We thought Kayley was much too delicate for out 'butch' pup. Roxy sounded more of an 'attitude' name.
If I had a dog it would be a Husky and i would name him/her LOBO. After the mexican wolf and after former UCONN huskey Rebecca Lobo.
We had an English Bull Terrier whom we named Lennon, as my partner is a hugh John Lennon fan, and the name John wasnt very original for our dog! When we got the dog we have now, we called her Nel, because Nel spells Len,backwards, which is what we sometimes called Lennon, our first dog, for short, sorta like a tribute to him!
a have a Staffordshire bull terrier called storm. because his fathers pedigree name was lets rock the boat and his pedigree name is storm warning and i also have a cavalier king charles named molly, no particular reason for her name, just easy for my daughter to pronounce as she was only 2 1/2 when we got her
Angel who is a pug, got her 2 years ago and that was her name then kept it coz she is !! However i do have nicknames for her as well - Mrs P (P for pug) or sometime just P ! LOL
doggy
I have a dog called charlie but she had her name before we got her.

I used to have 2 dogs called eric and ernie (ie morcombe and wise) ernie was a jack russell and eric was a boxer so ernie had short fat hairy legs (some people will get the joke)

We also had 2 cats called Frankie and Johnny. we did think frankie was a girl until he developed some rather large growths in between his leg. He is still the most beautiful lookign boy cat in the world
"Sandra" - An alsatian beach (3 years old).
i dont have a dog, but my neighbour has a spaniel called roxy and my friend has a golden retriever called sam and someone else has a st. bernard called precious.
I have 2 dogs, one is a german shepard ladrador cross named Lady, the other one is a boder collie cross named Jewels, both are female
golden lab, male. name is Setanta.
it's from Irish Mythology.
thought of it though, because when I first got him, he found a Santa hat, and walked around with it in his mouth, dragging it between his legs, sleeping with it, wrestling it.
I call him Tanta for short.
A few people call him Santa.
i have two shelties there names are Dancin Sky and Texas Hoss. i have also had dogs name Albates, Black Rose, Blue Shadow a corgi that was named Fire N Ice.
Cahirn (missed my other GSD that much when I bought another called after him ) nickname bear.

Kai

Shimano cause when she was a pup she pulled that much it was like she had different gears for different hills lol %26 all of a sudden she would slam her breaks on
I have a G Shep, i named in DROWSY, cozzzzz all the time when was a pup used to sleep sleep sleep and sleep
Well we had 3 dogs and none of them are alive now :(

German Shepard - Wynny
Cocker Spaniel - Cibi
Labrador - Nikky.

I miss them a lot... but cant afford to keep them at my current location .. hopefully whn i change wuld get them ^^
Ginger... she came with that name. We had another dog named Deedle. My daughter named him that because of the sound he made as he ran around the house. ;-))
Ah, cute! I'm a Lord of the Rings fan. =P

I had a chow/pit mix dog, extremely intelligent, but he died a year ago from heartworm treatment. =( He was my brother. And his name was Strider. His name was from what they call Aragorn on LOTR.
I currently have 2 dogs. A husky/chow/pit mix named Steele. He looks just like a husky except he's smaller. I got his name from the dog 'Steele' who plays on Balto b/c he looks like him.
And I also have a black lab mix (she looks mainly like a black lab) and I named her Nighque (Ny-coo) b/c she's black as 'night' and has 'unique' markings. So I combined the 2 words and, well, there ya' go. =)

What is your dog's favorite toy?

Answers:
My dog is REALLY big, and it has been difficult to find toys his size (I don't want him choking on anything!). I've actually found that he really enjoys playing with an empty 64 oz juice bottle, so I clean them out, take off the lid and the little plastic ring that's left behind, remove the label and scrub off the glue and he has a blast! I also bought him one of the 12" rubbermaid trash cans and he tosses it around the back yard and prances around with it...

with three crushed juice bottles and a trash can in the back yard, it looks like we're on the trashy side, but I don't care since my dog has fun :)
welll when he was a baby i gave him this lil heart thing and he has never stoped playing with it
pet rope
she also likes tennis balls and we can only give her fleece toys once in awhile because she tears them up---I'm waiting for her Kong chew toy to come in the mail
a stuffed duck
Mine loves her Kong but only when there's treats in it. If she's feeling interactive, it's a tennis ball. If she's feeling like a loner, it's a rawhide bone.
teddy bear he sucks its tail when he is sleepy as for when my two dogs play any soft toy forget the proper dog toys they much prefer a stuffed toy
My dog's favorite toy is a tennis ball and the other ball with the rope on it with the knot.
my dog favorite toys are a stuffed little chicken carry a yellow chickegg, and a blue soft doggy tecup hanger but usedo be use for holding the kitchen chair legs .but nomore . and goofy plastic doll with little uniftits on .
My Yorkie loves anything that squeaks, but especially loves toys that sing, talk, bark or otherwise make sounds. She really loves the stuffed Elmo toys that sing or rhyme.
Her dog house, we have a German shepherd and she will pull her dog house all over the yard. She has bones, tennis balls and squeaky toys but loves to play with the dog house and it is huge.

What is your dog like after a walk-very tired??

Answers:
It all depends on the dog's age, health, breed and the length of the walk. When I take my dogs on a long hike, they come home, drink water and pass out.

If your dog is exhausted after a short walk around the block, you may want to see your vet.
Usually resting or sleeping. If it's been hot, panting a bit and needing a drink.
That is the point.
He's only tired until something new excites him though. Being half lab means that that takes about half a second.
My collie cross is NEVER tired !
Daisy naps for a full day, she is a lazy dog.
still in the same position as before i went out for my walk. I wish I could help more with your question but it does seem as pointless as a yorkshire terrier.
Haha I wish.I go for really long walks several times a day. She has bursts of energy after every walk.haha she never stops!!! She's a jack russell.which explains why!!
Because of the bulk of them, my Newfs are always very tired. My spaniels however could have kept going for much longer, so basically it depends on the size of the animal. Don't worry about them though because they all react to exercise differently.
Very tired... but even more happy.
when you take your dog for a walk, take a small portable bowl or something similar and a bottle of water for your dog. Make sure you don't over work your dog either, it really depends on what kind of dog you have. If your dog starts lagging some during a walk then take a break and let he/her rest.
depends on size of dog an how often you take him ( her ) for walks ,and how far you go,a lot of people seem to think dogs don,t get really tired, but they really do, cause they,re on guard duty most of the time.
when I take my dog walking we go about three miles, when we get back she's so giddy it's stupid them about half hour later she drops like a stone and doesn't move for about three hours then shes ready to go again! She's a doberman cross a year old.
If your dog is 'exhausted' after a walk of only one mile, and he's a 'large, strong' dog, then something is 'terribly wrong' with him even though he's 'overweight' ... and I think that you should take him to the Vet for a 'check-up' at which you tell the vet about how 'tired' he is after 'walking a mile' ... otherwise, cut the walks back to about half a mile and 'take them up slowly' ONE BLOCK AT A TIME. Also, if your dog is 'overweight' you need to give him a good 'weight loss dog food' and not give him 'treats' until he's 'slimmer' and has more 'energy' ... but if he's an OLD dog (you'll need to check because different breeds get old at different ages) then you just need to 'cut back' a bit and help him 'trim down' with good food and take two or three 'walks' a day ...
Yes my old dog is very tired after a walk but she is over 12 now so shes bound to be, but she does well and has a long walk with me at lunch time that lasts about an hour and a nice run in the park of an evening so shes not doing bad for her age.
Try increasing the distance very day and walk your dog every day so it gets use to it but don't force it to go any further than what it wants to. Let it smell around and rest if it wants to. Sooner or later it would want to go even further in about a month.

Good Luck!
hi there both my dogs are tired and thirsty after a walk we take them round our local park which is about an hours walk but my female always feels she has to rush when were out but thats just her if he/she is not in any pain and enjoying his walk take it slowly increase the length of walk dont excite him or her too much on your walk as he/she will tire easily rest frequently take plenty of water if you are still worried have a chat with your vet or have he/she a health check hope this helps
My dog used to be ready for another one, he'd just walk and walk. He's 14 now though, and he can't be bothered to go for a walk at all coz that means he has to get out of his bed.
He is tired and thirsty but that depends on the weather. We have very cold winters and cool springs and falls. Usually when the weather is cooler he has tons of energy and has enough to go on 10 walks. With our warmer weather coming he does not tolerate it well. So he is dragging by the time we come in from a short walk. It takes time for them to adjust to temperature and distance.
you did not mention the breed?
A pup will get tired after a walk an old dog will get tired but a dog around 2+ should not get tired your dog needs to diet. if the dog is over weight it is putting a lot of pressure on it so it can walk far, the same as a person over weight there tired were someone thin would not be as tired. If you take to your vets they offer a free weighing so they will tell you what it should be how much it should loose etc when the dog starts to loose weight then start to walk it further.
I walk mine for 2 hours on each walk GSD %26 a Dobe but I have to walk my other Eurasier separate or they end up annoying each other (tries to be top dog, it hasn't got a hope in hell lol) I also take that out for 2 hours so by the time I get back i'm the one thats tired lol
Ive got 2 very hyperactive 1 yr old staffordshire bull terriers that need a lot of excercise . long walks always tire them out lol they sleep for a good hour or so after a long walk

I had a greyhound...he was fast as hell, but couldn't out run a car! Got hit and died!!!

Why did you have to bring up dogs? Now I'm sad thinking about Arthur my deceased dog!!
German Shepherds. They are smart and about as useful a dog as you can possibly have. I have several on my farm. They track missing animals and people, defend the flocks, sound the alarm if strange people or animals intrude, and protect the family members. They are about the bravest animals I've ever seen and yet the most fun-loving family pet you can have. They are just wonderful dogs if you have a job for them to do. They NEED work. If you don't provide them with a job, they will invent one and that can be trouble.
Gotta B the Doberman
I looooove BLACK LABS however I have a norlad terrier
.Shade died last April...was a Rottweiler. was a beautiful dog
I love golden retrievers! I don't have one but when i'm older i would love to buy one! I like jack russels as well. My aunty has a wire jack russel and she's absolutely adorable.

What is yhe best way to housetrain a puppy not to go potty on the floor?

paper training is not working
Answers:
This segment teaches you step-by-step how to house train your puppy or adult dog the right way! You'll learn how to prevent accidents and set your dog up for success. It also covers some common problems you may encounter along the way. *Critical viewing for anyone trying to housetrain their pup!*

spray natures miracle best behavior bet training aid where you dont want him to go
you take the puppy out as often as possible (every hour or so), but if the puppy looks like it is about to go potty take it out quickly.
Every time your puppy pottys on the floor tell it in a firm voice NO, then pick up the puppy and take him outside and tell him you go potty out here. Stand out there for a while with him and let him finish doing his business. Once the puppy has gone potty praise him for doing a good job, with a small treat. The puppy will get the hint and start going outside, you just have to constantly work with them.
DO NOT PAPER TRAIN, AS SOON AS YOU GET IT TEACH IT TO GO OUTSIDE NO MATTER WHAT! PUT A COAT ON IT OR SOMTHINNG GET A LIL GATE WITH A LIL DOOR AND OPEN THE DOOR PUT IT IN LET IT GO OR PUT THE PAPER OUTSIDE THERE IF ITS ALREADY TRAINED TO THAT POINT TO THE PAPER SAY PEEPEE OR W%26#92;E THEN START TAKING A LIL BIT AWAY AT A TIME LIKE BRUCE ALMIGHTY. BUT THAT WAS A COUCH :)
Try starting with puppy training pads they have a chemical on them that tells a puppy to go there. And put them where the puppy goes most often. Then slowly inch them towards and out the door he'll uses most often. And it can take upwards of six months to potty train a puppy, mine took almost two years. Also size and age of the dog matters too, a smaller or younger puppy will have to go out much more frequently. And when they have a accident off the pads be sure to clean it will or they may continue going there.
You can always try the potty pads or even a litter box .
Try crate training instead. Much more effective than paper training. The website below will tell you how.
One, NEVER PUT HIS/HER NOSE IN THEIR OWN STUFF! It only confuses the dog. Unless you catch him/her in the act, dont bother correcting him/her because dogs usually have a bad memory and won't know what your punishing him/her for. You can start by everytime you sence that your puppie has to go, immediatly put him on the leash, take him/her outside to where you want him/her to go and wait till the pup does go. While waiting for your pup to go, repeat the same phrase like "Do your business," or "Go potty," something short and easy to remember. When your puppie does go, immediately when he lifts his bottom up and is done click with your training clicker and give him/her a treat and PRAISE! Repeat the process over and over when ever he/she has to go to the bathroom and eventually your puppy will get the hint that when you tell it your command for using the bathroom, it will get a treat. So remember, be PATIENT!, because your dog is not dumb or stupid, it's just learning. Hope this helps...
the best way to house-train a dog to not potty on the floor is to show it discipline don't hit it like most parents hit kids just spank it but not hard put their nose in it let them smell it
to potty trainthem, before they go to the bathroom, put them outside, walk them, so they can go to the bathroom there, makes sure you bring a paper bag.
Don't use the pee-pee pads or newspaper! Puppies usually have way more fun shredding them than peeing on them. And, they just train the puppy to pee/poop inside the house. You need to take the puppy outside frequently and make a huge deal when she does her business outside. If you can't supervise her, crate her for a few hours. If you catch her going inside, say "no", and scoot her out the door as quickly as possible. Praise her when she finishes her business outside. Be sure not to punish her for going inside - especially if don't catch her right in the act. Punishment just teaches the puppy to not let you catch her peeing/pooping inside. So.She'll find clever places to hide the puddle or pile.

Also - if you can, you may want to think about installing a doggie door. That way, she can go in/out whenever she needs to pee, and she won't have to hold it until you're available to take her out.
We just got a new puppy about 12-14 weeks ago. And we have had a hard time trying not to get her to potty on the floor. One thing that helps is when your puppy starts to go potty put him on a puppy mat. Its kinda like a Porto-potty for puppies you can usually get some at wal-mart or a pet store. And tell the puppy that is where you go potty. Do this constantly and keep moving closer and closer to either the front of back door. I would do the back so when you have company they don't see it. And when your puppy starts to go potty on the mat make sure you tell him/her "Good puppy" so they know their are doing the right thing. Also try to take your puppy outside about ever 1 to 2 hours and stand outside for about 5 or 10 minutes. I hope this help. It sure has helped us.

What is wrong?

I have a 1yr old beagle actually she turned 1 yesterday but these past 3 or 4 days she wont eat anything I give her and she acts as if she has no energy she just acts depressed and drags herself around I cant figure it out PLEASE HELP!!!
Answers:
Is she drinking? This is the most important!!

Has she pee'd or poo'd

If not - to the vet immediately

If so ... dogs can go off their food. Canned foods can be quite rich
Mix up som plain white rice and a bit of boilded hamburger and shee if she can manange that.
If she can, do not try to over feed her, but nurse her back slowly

I know it is expenseive, but don't let this go on much longer - many things can be going on with a dog and need to be checked out.

But don't panic - just try to make sure she is drinking and that stuff is coming out the other end

Give her a good all over gentle massage to make sure she has no odd lumps or bumps ... and lots and lots of nursing love

BACK ATACHA ON THE WATER ... try bottled water - the cholrine etc may be making her gag. Think of how you feel when you have a cold or something - everything makes you gag. So go for bottled for a day or two ...
Make up that boiled rice %26 boilded hamburger for her and try to hand feed her the smallest amount. BUT don't worry about the food so much ... she needs water first.
It IS allergy season - and it makes us all feel like crap.

Again most important is to check that things are going in AND out

ANOTHER BACK ATCHA

If you are worried - then please take her to the vet right away ... they have fast, simple tests to figure all of this out.
You are a good responsible dog owner worring over this. It dies need attention - best with the vet

ANOTHER BACK ATCHA
I put you in my contacts ... not sure how to send you my email without broadcasting it in here :)
My dog was having the same problem(6 month old chocolate lab)...but he was also throwing up...so i took him to the vet...she said that all of the pollen in the air can make my dog feel like that. I was scared with all of this China food call backs but about 2 weeks later he was fine.
TAKE HER TO THE VET! nobody can diagnose without actually seeing her. most likely blood testing needs to be done.
GO TO THE VET.

your dog really could be sick.

iths may be nothing serious, like a mild gastro enteritis, causing some nausea. but it is possible a more serious problem is involved especially if you regularly give her fatty foods like Hamburgers i would be worried about possible pancreatitis.

so go to the vet. tell them your worries and work out a plan.

this may be nothing, but better safe than sorry
Don't waste time asking more questions, get your dog examined by a doctor immediately. Lethargy anorexia, and weight loss are common signs of many extremely dangerous conditions (kidney failure, systemic infection, obstruction, heartworm infection, diabetes, etc..)

You will not get a diagnosis on the internet, a doctor has to put their hands on your dog and look at everything.

What is wrong with you guys, I would not be asking the question, if I hadn't already given the dog many baths?

Answers:
You can actually make a dog smell worse bathing it too much.
what question are you referring to?
And the question is..........
what are you talking about? dont post crap like this. its a waste of space. maybe you should try adding details to your questions instead of assuming that everyone knows what you're talking about and how you've already tried to fix the problem. you dont have to be rude and obnoxious or people are just going to start being rude back.
Ummm...your question???
?
Well what's the Question?

Ally
I didn't answer your first question but I went and read it and maybe you should have stated that in the first place.

Try a deodorizing dog spray. you can get it from walmart or any pet store. If it is really bad try a tomato juice bath like what you would use for skunk spray.

Also try using bath oils in your dogs shampoo (test for allergies first) Just browse the aisles at your pet store you are bond to find something that would work.
post the question so we can see what you're talking about :)
All right! 2 points!
Perhaps because the only real way to rid a dog of its body odor is to give it a bath. Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer, k?
maybe if you ask a question we would be able to answer it ! . got it
How about you ask the question first...then I'll tell you to give him a bath.
I answered to your question you posted. Try the remedies I suggested. I also thought of another thing it could be. It could be your dogs anal glands. Don't laugh; I am not joking. Take the dog to the groomers and they can fix it. SOmetimes the food you feed your dog can infect his anal glands and cause swelling and discomfort for your dog. Does he drag his butt across the floor? What kind of dog is it? Shar-peis are a dog that is known to be smelly. Give us a little more info so we can help you out.
I answered your last question and I understand what you mean.
I do not know what your original question was but i think i might have an idea, the max you should bath a dog with soap/shampoo is once a month, more than this can cause skin problems. Any stink could be dietary, or hygiene issues, you should ask your dogs vet about what you should do.
After the vet tells you there is no medical reason why the dog has an odor, try these. We had a dog that smelled so bad all the time and bathing was near impossible and did no good.
The reason was that it slept under shrubs and with all that hair, it soaked up the musty smell of the damp.

The one thing that took care of it totally was to have her shaved in late spring/early summer when the weather was warm.
OR
Try a few drops, or more depending on her size, of chlorophyll in her water. I drink it myself. health food store.
AND?OR
Ask your vet if her dog food could be the problem. If so, he can tell you what ingredients to avoid.

If you are dealing with a beagle, forget it. The smell is there forever.
?

What is wrong with this dog?

We found a dog on the street who looks very old and ill, but she is very smart. She can sit, shake, bark, etc. and she will not leave our yard no matter what we do.

Here's the problem. She has hair missing in some areas and has been biting her hair out. She has cavaties in a lot of her front teeth and one of her canines is loose so it's hard for her to eat. She throws up a lot and she lets off an extremely foul, fishy odor that you can smell throughout the house.

Even after bathing her, the smell does not subside and it's worse around her breath. Not only that but she has dry, scaly skin, and it looks like she's grown a few extra nipples. Her skin is very dark colored (grayish) and she also has what appears to be puss pockets on certain areas of her skin. Her ears have also appeared to shrivel up and they are very hard.

Shes a black lab, but she is barely recognizable as one, however. We have all become attached to the dog, but we would like to know what this could be.
Answers:
First things first, bring her to a vet. She sounds like she has a nutritional deficiency and possibly an underlying medical problem, but I won't advise anything.

As an online "forum", we can't give a diagnosis. Not only is it ethically and medically immoral but it's completely dangerous as well. However, I can tell you one thing. Infected and rotting teeth can lead to a plethora of health problems. From what you've told us, it sounds like her teeth are in the later stages of periodontal disease. This requires intensive treatment and professional anesthetic cleaning with possible teeth extractions. If you don't plan to get anything else done, please schedule a teeth cleaning with your local vet. You can potentially save her life (again =]).
If you are committed to helping this dog, a trip to the vet is in order. The dog has suffered extreme neglect and probably has multiple health problems going on and is clearly miserable. The vet can help you assess if these problems are treatable and what to do next.
She has some MAJOR problems and only a vet is going to be able to help her. Please take her to one asap. Good Luck
This poor dog has a lot of problems. The sink near her mouth is probably teeth that are abscessed and need to either be pulled or cleaned. The scooting is probably worms. The hair is probably Mange or serious allergies. If you intend on keep her than a trip to your vet is certainly in order for her.
She need serious medical attention very soon.. Poor old gal! I'm very happy she has you now.
Obviously, she needs a vet. The skin and smell could be caused by mange, which requires medication. Rotten teeth can cause kidney and liver disease, so they'll have to be treated and possibly removed. Butt dragging can be a sign of worms or impacted anal glands, both of which are fairly easy to remedy. Ear rubbing is a sign of ear infection or mites, again, easily remedied, but only with vet care.

If you're truly attached to this dog, you're going to have to be prepared to spend several hundred dollars getting her fixed up by a vet. If you can't, it may be best to put her to sleep. She can't be happy or comfortable with all those problems, and it's not fair to keep her alive without treating her problems.

Good luck to you guys.
Not sure but she might have mange is cuz the, the butt thing might be and most likely is from worms and stuff. Or she could be a female Chupacabra. Either way take her to vet. She needs serious help NOW.
It might have ticks. I am a vet...andi know that these things can actually kill a dog. She is probably very old and near her death. You should go to PETSMART and buy the doggy breath mints.you'll be surprised to see how much it actually helps. I beleive you should take her to a vet IMEDIATLY>...this is a matter of life or death.if she is vomiting a lot, you may be in serios trouble. My dog (susie) died a couple years ago due to the fact that she threw up a lot, her belly was all pink and stretchy, her teeth were decaying, etc. I wish i caould have operated on her now that i see how ignorant i was about the situation. Even though i never meant it. Take my advice...go see a vet as soon as you can.it could save your dog.
Her scooting across the floor is cause by anal glands they are sacks inside that occassionally need to be released with the scooting thats what she is tryin to do.A vet can do this for you if u decide to keep her.. Her bad breath is she needs to have a dental done it should help her breath and help prevent other diseases. The missing hair can be a skin disease known as mange which depending on what type it is can be treated, also it could be whats called hot spots which are caused by fleas which is also treatable.
I advise you to take her to a vet
take the dog to the animal hospital and tell them what u just write, maybe she have a serious infection or something. I think that will be the best...
I would recommend taking her to the vet. The bad smell from around her mouth is probably roughing teeth that need to be worked on. For her itchy flaky skin, have you thought about using Head in Shoulders? I know its for humans but it might help her out a lot. But for the missing hair and biting the hair out, and the shriveled up ears it sounds like only a vet would know what that was from.
Hope I helped you a little bit.
It sounds like a trip to the vet is in order. The teeth probably need to be cleaned (that's probably the major source of odor). The hair loss could be caused by many different things. Scooting is a sign that her anal glands need to be expressed. She may have worms but scooting is not usually a sign of that.
Food alergies are very common in dogs, many are allergic to wheat. You might want to go to a speciality store that has a variety of foods for dogs with allergies...in addition to a vet visit, of course.
You might want to keep her away from water, or getting wet we have a black lab and sometimes thier skin gets irritated from the water.

What is Wrong With Sophie's Poop?

I have a 14 month old Miniature Schnauzer whose picture in the dictionary is next to "Good Girl".

We go for long walks every night around our neighborhood--from 1 to 3 miles long. She always has Poop #1 within a few minutes from starting our walk. It's a good firm one. But then she ends up pooping app. three more times during our walk that get softer and softer each time--ending up as virtually water.

The next day, she's back to normal.

I have meds for her (Diawin, Metro) but I don't want to dose her every night.

What is Wrong with Sophie's Poop?
Answers:
Additional exercise after initial elimination will cause the remaining food in her system to move through more quickly, hence the stools get looser and looser.
Are you walking her IMMEDIATELY after dinner? If so you might try crating her for an hour or so after eating and before the walk.
Geez I wouldn't medicate my dogs just because their system is working like it ought to!!
I have a dog named Sophie too! It must be a very popular name. She could have trouble digesting certain foods, and changing your dog food may help. She may have allergies. My dog Sophie sometimes has diaarhea and we think it's from her dog food, so we're trying a different kind. Talk to the vet!! She'll know what's wrong with her.
Change her diet, maybe. She might be alergic or something. I don't know what's up with Sophies' poo.
There is nothing wrong with Sophia's poop. Does she drink a lot of water ? If we walk a lot and drink plenty of water our stool is loose. That will make for a healthy dog.
I noticed that from alot of dogs while working at the dog pound they have firmer stools after a period of low activity, but if they run around or are just active they poop more and it's less firm, alot of the time a dog will force out some poop in an area where other dogs have pooped. the forced stuff is ususally watery also how long does your dog have to wait until you walk her? is it over 8 hours some dogs have to hold it in and so the first poop is firm but the rest isn't .
either way she sounds normal
Well.the poop that is in her the longest (in the colon, because she has to hold until she is walked), loses the water in it by being absorbed by her colon...this is her first poop and the firmest.but because she is walking, food that she has eaten later goes through her system faster, therefor not sitting in her colon as long, thus not having the water absorbed from it. Sophie sounds like her system is working properly.
My dogs do this also, it is normal. Mine do it when they get excited.

Don't give meds. You can give canned plain pumpkin if you need to firm her stools up a bit.

What is wrong with my puppy?

My daschund puppy is 12 weeks old and just started having serious diarhea and is hacking like he needs to vomit. I read symptoms on the net and it said it could be canine distemper or even parvo. He is still playing around like nothing is wrong and still is eating strong. Should I go to the emergency room or could this be something minor that I don't know about. Thanks for any help.
Answers:
If he isn't better by morning, then he needs to see a vet. Puppies dehydrate SO quickly when they have diarrhea.
It may be something as simple as something he ate, or worms, if he hasn't been wormed well, but it could be something as serious (deadly) as Parvo, or other virus.

If he is still playing, and not lethargic, then it can wait until morning.
Go to the emergency and be on the safe side. It can be parvo. Only a vet can determine it.

You wouldn't want to loose the little one on this , would you?

:(
Has any one feed the puppy CHOColate? Or has he gotten into any Chocolate? Chocolate is deadly to dogs!! Puppy eat and chew on anything and everything. Even fishing hooks. Take him to a Vet NOW!
has he been vaccinated for anything, if not don't take him out and about so much, until he is, stop food until you see a vet first thing when they open, or contact 24 hr vet for advice at least. if his spirits are good, and he seems himself other than diarrhea, just no food and little water til vet visit first thing- if the diarrhea has a strangely bad odor, nothing like regular dog poop, is dar, dark brown or almost a black or eggplant color --thats not good, look at the poop, is there blood in it? that is a parvo sign, distemper is not common in domestic dogs, but could be if not vaccintated- pls try to find 24 hr vet in your area - live in calif, and theres one here 805.466.3880, can't hurt to call for advice if you can't find one in your area
Take your puppy to the vet, NOW. Take the pup's food with you.
i would say get him to the vets, yes puppy's can have a loose tummy for many reasons but it can also be very serious, the puppy can be dehydrated and become very poorly with just having these symptoms with out the diseases you mentioned and can still be fatal
That previous lady had puppies?
That is quite odd.
Here's the deal on parvo:

Puppies with parvovirus will be lethargic. They will be severely dehydrated, and will probably not eat. The diarrhea will be bloody, or look like straight blood and so will any vomit.

However, it could be something serious. At that young age, I wouldn't take chances. Take him in to the vet asap.

Good luck.
haven't you vacinated him? take him to the vet! he should have had his 2nd series of shots by now.
take to the vets!
If the stools turn a grey colour it is parvo my dog had it.
The more food you five the more poo/sick comes out
hhave you recently gave your puppy its innoculations?
I have a Eurasier which had a really bad reaction to its innoculations %26 ended up in the vets for 2 weeks!
I would say make an emergency appointment with your vets better to be safe than sorry,
Your dog will get dehydrated %26 it must be kept calm not running around till you have found out the problem.
Have you changed its food has could he have ate anything without you noticing?
Have you got any plants etc in you garden yard that are poisonous?
Have you changed his food brand recently or feed him something he's not used to? I'd say give it 24hrs and see if it gets better. If not then consider the vet.
i would take him along to the vets. When they r so young it can be absolutly anything, he could have chewed something that is blocked in him somewhere, so it could be serious.
You didn't say what kind of shots he had or if he had any. that makes a big difference here. Anyway if he is still playing around and eating this can wait until you can get him to your vet, but do it soon. It is best to have him check out as soon as you can get into your vets.
SEE A VET!
come on people. vets will do nothing for distemper. when mine had it, he flat out told me he didnt want her there anymore. after making her wait outside in the freezing cold, which led to pneumonia (they get that with distemper, usually, unless kept in perfect conditions) we didnt get to treat her early enough since she had both parvo and distemper together- the distemper symptoms were masked by the parvo symptoms. she didnt get the tell tell runny nose like others the cough wasthe first thing that gave it away...

What is wrong with my puppy?

hes a jack russell so he is usually very hyper. Lately he has not done anything but lay around. He wont eat much or drink. The other day his body was cold. His nose is like an ice cube and he has a lot of spit gathering in his mouth. He has diarrehea and is throwing up mucus. I've tried calling vets in my area but none of them are in today. I dont know what to do. What could be wrong with him?
Answers:
EMERGENCY VET!
You shouldn't have waited until the weekend.
Can you take him to another town closer to you? He really needs to see a vet. His body temperature shows he is very ill.

I agree with You Asked, it does sound like parvo.
did you tell the vet it is an emerengcy? cause they have to have er dr on call 23 hours day. try to call them back and tell them it is an er.
Sounds like it could be parvo, Get him to a vet immediately without fluids thru an IV his survival rate is almost 0.

EDIT: Very sorry to hear about your dog, I am almost postive he had parvo.. Good luck to you
Contact an emergency vet service in a nearby city or town.
Get him to a vet.
What food has he been eating ???

Look at the yellowpages in your phone book under veterinarians and look for any ads that say after hours emergency or emergency clinic

What ever he has wrong with him is extremely serious he may not make it till monday unless he gets to a vet ASAP
Please get him help. could be the food. a virus. I have a puppy chihuahua and I would die if anything happens to her. God bless.
Aww.
Poor tike :[

If no vet is in today, check around areas near you because you never know what he has. Sure, if may be the flu, but he's a puppy and nothing is too small.
So check vets near the area (May be a 20 minute drive more, but your pup is totally worth it, right?)

But i hope he is fine :]
Well any good vet would have a 24 hr emergency number and a calling service. Look in the business section of your phone book and some with have 24 hr emergency right in their add then call them and see if they will arrange to see your pup. Otherwise try calling a animal hospital usually there is staff their or call a boarding kennel they should have a number for a vet incase of emergency. How about your vet that does his shots? If you know her name you might find it in the phone book. He may have gotten into something posionous. But it sounds serious!
is his tummy big? i know it's a weird question, but my dog had the same problems and she had a big hard tummy like she was preg. but she wasn't. she ended up having a parasite or something and she had to have surgery.
sounds like parvo, please call around to another vet and tell them what he's doing he needs to be seen today! please keep us updated on how he's doing!!
YouAsked is correct.
Has the puppy had it's shots? Even if he has had a Parvo shot there is still no guarantee that he hasn't contracted Parvo. If he had the virus prior to the shot the shot may not work.
Parvo is a very very nasty virus and can kill a puppy in no time.
Keeping the animal hydrated is a MUST and it is hard to do when they are vomiting and having diarrhea. A diarrhea stool that stinks worse than any smell you have smelled before and has mucos in it is generally a Parvo stool and a sure sign that the dog has it.
If your puppy can't/won't even keep water down needs to have IV fluids so it is imperative that you find a vet of some kind.
Try giving the puppy some room temperature milk. This will ease the sick tummy and it will provide some kind of fluid and will help to slow down the diarrhea. . . if he takes it and keeps it down.
Check your Yellow Pages for a 24hr Emergency Vet Clinic and even if your local vets are closed, they usually have someone on call so don't let the fact that their offices are closed deter you. . . . Stay on that phone until you find someone to take the puppy NOW or you may not have a puppy come daylight.

P.S. And YES. . . Keep us updated as to what happens.
check his pupils(the black spot between the colored part), if they are dilelated(one being bigger than the other), then it is possiable that he ate something he should not have and is allergic to it, or even worse, he could have swallowed something poisoniss. also, if you have given him medicine or if he has recently gotten a shot of some kind (especially rabies shots), he maybe allergic to that, because my previous dog got really sick after her rabies shots. she eventally got better, but was never the same. ask your vet when he is back in, but this is the advice the i can give you from my own personal experice. but i can asure you this, if he does not see a vet soon and get medical attention, he could die.
Well it seems that you'r dog might have the flew that is what they usually do! So go yo a vet that is in a different city! Also it would help if you get another dog it might need a friend! Also! It could of got hit with something hard! Plus watch the t.v you could have fed him the wrong food!
Well one thing that you can do is give him some Pepto-Bismol庐 For dogs only. Relieve vomiting or stomach gas, diarrhea. 1 tsp. per 20 Lbs. Every 6 hours. This will help you until you can get to the vet. If there is any blood in the stool or vomit then you may want to take him to the vet emergency. Also if you think that he drank of chemicals then give him Mineral Oil, Eliminate constipation. Dogs: up to 4 Tbls.
Cats: up to 2 Tbls. Daily, as needed.

Diarrhea: Ensure your pet is drinking enough fluids. In addition to their water bowl, a bowl of Gatorade庐 will further help. Stop feeding for 24 hours from the onset of the diarrhea. When your pet is ready to eat again, try 2 parts cooked white rice mixed with 1 part boiled hamburger or skinless white meat chicken, feeding small amounts every 4 hours for 2 days. Slowly introduce their regular food back into the diet. If the diarrhea doesn't subside, seek the advise of your veterinarian. It may be caused by intestinal parasites or something more serious.

Vomiting: Stop feeding your pet for 24 hours, only providing water. Afterwards, slowly introduce mild foods back into the diet over a 3 day time period, to include boiled hamburger, boiled chicken, cooked rice, and/or cottage cheese. If the vomiting continues after the first 24 hours or if there is bloating, consult your veterinarian immediately.
i had something similar happen to my toy rat terrier when he was a puppy. it ended up being the dog food named something diamond. it had been recalled but the people kept selling it. it was causing some kind of fungus build up in him or something so his diarrehea and vomit was coming out green.

anyways, regardless he needs to be takin to a vet ASAP! all vets have emergency vet numbers, it just costs more, but its worth it to save your pet! call your local vet office, their message on the answering machine will usually give you an emergency number to call

good luck with your pup!

What is wrong with my pomeranian dog?

She's racist I think, everytime we have people over that have different colored skin then she continually barks at them and she bites their heels.. and it is so embarrasing cuz the people can't help what color they are and yet our dog doesn't understand that cuz she is a dog but how can I make her stop this embarrasing thing?
Answers:
Just because dogs are color blind does not mean that they can not see different shades of black and white. So, even if you have a Mexican friend or an Asian friend, your dog will see that they aren't white or black.

As for getting your dog to stop the barking, I agree with the answer about socializing your dog and have those people she barks at give her a treat.
Dogs are naturally wary of things that they are not used to. You need to socialize her more, especially with different colored people. Get her out to meet as many different people as possible, and reward her for being friendly, better yet have the people give her treats.
Hello...dogs are color blind %26 if any of your friends are say like loud people, etc...some dogs hate it, we have one that does that too...dogs can sense things people cannot.. so they just don't like some people or their smells, etc...Take Care :)
Dogs DO not see people of color. If anything she is noting a different odor to people. We all have our own odor. Has she ever not liked someone just for no reason at all?? She doesn't trust that person because of odor or perhaps the tone of their voice.

Dogs don't judge people as we do. You cannot stop your dog from doing this.

What is wrong with my dogs ear! how can i fix it!?

i have a toy breed that has an ear problem that will not go away. i know that its not ear mites or ticks. but the who inside of the ear is red black ichy and bleeding from him scratching it. im trying to look for a home remady that will help him.
Answers:
what breed is it?

some breeds, like poodles, get ear problems and infections easily. the black stuff inside is a symptom.

these breeds need to have their ears regularly cleaned. this involved plucking all the hair within and cleaning the ear out with saline solution, and sometimes adding medication.

you can look up online how to clean your dogs ears properly. be careful though - dont poke down too far or you can burst their eardrum.

.
Probably an ear yeast infection, I had to get stuff from the vet and wash the ears out several times a day and then once a month for preventive.
Take him to the vet. My dog had the same thing and it was a yeast infection caused by an allergic reaction to his new soap. We put him on antibiotic for a few weeks and he got better.
Go to a vet, you cant treat something if you dont know what it is.
Sounds like an ear infection or something in his ear. Sorry no home remedies for that.
How do you know its not ear mites? did you take him to a vet? It is rare that a dog will get ear mites but it is still possible. If you've had the exudate (the black stuff) looked at under a microscope already and found that it was not ear mites, the vet should have told you it was either a yeast infection or bacterial infection. If it is a yeast infection it will smell really bad and you can use the over-the-counter yeast infection cream for women. Use it twice a day for about 4-5 days. Also clean his ears once a day for about a week, with a doggy ear cleaner. It is important to check to find out what you are dealing with before you try to fix it on your own. You could make your dog go deaf, or potentially kill him if you try to use stuff that is not given to you by the vet. Take him to the vet and have it checked out.
My Lab gets chronic ear infections in one ear. The only way to prevent it is constant cleaning with ear solution (either from the vet or petstore). But first you have to get the infection cleared up and that means a trip to the vet for antibiotic ear ointment. Usually dogs who have flopped over ears are very prone to yeast infections due to the lack of air circulation.
you need to take that poor baby to the vet!
Get an E-Collar at your nearest pet supply store. This will keep him from agitating it and help let it heal. Put some neosporin on it immediately and if this does not go away in a week, get him to a vet.
Well it could be a great number of things. The main thing here is that u don't want to risk waiting to long before doing something about it,cause if the ear infection goes deeper you could end up with a dog with much more problems than just an itchy ear.And not to mention the level of annoyance and pain your dog is suffering right now!Home remedies aren't good enough for your dog,as they aren't good enough for yourself, your child, your mother, father or other family member. If you had an itchy ear which was annoying you and it was bleeding due to all the scratching wouldn't you got to the doctor?Do the same for your dog,go to a vet!!!
Hello

Could be an ear infection.

Best thing to do would be to take him to a vet and get him checked over.

He will be able to give you prescription only medicaction which works better and quicker than home remady's.

Call them today :-)

What is wrong with my dog?

I have a 4year old golden retriever. He is really sweet around humans but when another dog is around he is so aggressive. It's like every time a dog comes up he gets real stocky and acts all big and bad.plus he growls at them and tries to fight. My dad says he feels offended when they come too close to him.One day we were walking him and this little yorkie came up and kept barking.Jake(the dog) got out of his collar and attacked the little dog and was on top of him.(he didn't hurt him though..it was like a warning). We finally got control of him and he was fine after the little dog left him alone.Another time this lab was by us while we were walking him and they went off on each other.little chunks of hair was on the ground.(they were both fine)then 3 more times that happened with other little dogs while we were walking him.He isn't fixed because we are planning on breeding him and plus he stays in the yard most of the time until we walk him or take him swimming. Is he just not sociable?
Answers:
Get him neutered. All we need is another badly bred litter of Goldens with lousy temperments. Someone or another dog is going to get really hurt. You'll get sued.
have you tried talking to a behaviorist?? they can shed more light on the situation rather than us reading about it.
Unneutred male dogs tend to be more aggressive towards other dogs. Neutring him will help, but he may not ever be 100% good around other dogs.

Keep him under better control. Muzzle him on walks if you have to, but there is no excuse for allowing you animal to attack another pet.
You may need to take him to obedience school! This helped immensley with my dog who was exactly the same way! He was not properly socialized, and aggressiveness was the result.
Alot of dogs just don't like other dogs. Another problem is him not being neutered. He is defending his territory: his home, and his family. You can try trainers to correct him, but it's usually territorial. Just keep control of him. Try a pinch collar, not a choker-chain, they are worse. Pinch collars will teach him not to pull and he will be easier to control.
Your dog is not good with other dogs because he is very dominant and because he was not properly socialized with other dogs when he was a puppy. It has nothing to do with him feeling "offended."

Severe dog aggression (which yours has) and high dominance is rare in goldens and not typical for the breed and frankly for this reason, your dog is not a good candidate for breeding and should be neutered. Neutering should reduce his dominance level and may make him somewhat better with other dogs. Working with a trainer may also help, though he may never be 100% trustworthy with other dogs.
Your not really serious about breeding an aggressive dog are you? This is not a good thing here. Golden's are not supposed to be aggressive in any way shape of form. It seems he was not properly socialized when he was a pup and since he is intact he now see's every dog as a threat to himself and to you. He is being over protective. These are not good traits that need to be passed on to his pups.
Do yourself and Jake a favor and have him neutered.
if you don't want to bring him to an obedience school, you can tray bringing him into dogs slowly, It means bring with you his favorite treats or food, bring slowly other dog and any time he tries to bark or attack just say no and if he stop give him a treat.. try bring the other dog closer each time. It could take time but I think if you do it for 10 mins / day for like 3 weeks he'll be much better with dogs.and be patient with him, it's not easy to change a behaivor to a 4 years old dog
He should have been socialized as a younger pup. You should get him fixed as if he already shows dog aggression it is a bad idea to breed him. He may get agressive towards the female and if it is just male aggression then getting him fixed may make him less aggressive. You need to do something before he does hurt one of these other dogs seriously and if he does it too often they make you have him put down. So for the safety of your dog and other dogs have him neutered.
oh for heavens sake, get him neutered immediately. He does NOT need to be bred to create more dogs !!! He is an alpha dog, he wants to be the big guy, the leader of the pack. You should take him to obedience class and get him around other dogs and teach him that he can't be the boss all the time. A collar, no matter what kind it is, will not make him like other dogs. Watch the dog whisperer and see how he handles this problem, he would make your dog be with other dogs and discipline him whenever he shows aggression. But first---GET HIM NEUTERED!!!
Your Goldie has a classic case of "Dog Aggresson." What this means, is that he is aggressive toward other dogs. It is an act of Dominance, either from fear or from not being taught that's not the right thing to do. It sounds to me like it's gotten way beyond what you and your family can handle or change, so I would suggest IMMEDIATELY going to a Behaviorlist... one that will teach you how to control and change his behavior. It's a dangerous behavior that could easily land him with a "Vicious Dog" verdict... and if not tended to, could even mean that you'll be forced to put him down.

I don't want to scare you, but it's importnat to deal with this problem decisively, and immediately. It may only be dogs now.. but left unchecked, it could worsen.

If this is not an option for you, then buy a 'Basket Muzzle' and put it on him when you go for walks. A Basket muzzle is a metal or plastic cage-style muzzle that allows full ventilation, but covers the muzzle completely. Unlike the cloth tube style muzzles, this does not allow him to nip through the end of it.

It's not that he isn't sociable... it's that he doesn't know HOW to be sociable. Training can do WONDERS, and WILL do wonders. Being an 'unaltered' male shouldn't make any difference. For your Goldie, it's about being on top, or being afraid. Females will be just as aggressive without the proper training and care.

End all, be all of this: Seek professional help. Please. For his sake as much as the sake of the dog he eventually attacks and seriously injurs.
First off, don't breed him. You don't want to breed an animal with obvious personality problems. That would be wrong.
Now for helping you with this problem, look up "Nothing in life is free" It will help teach the dog that people are in control and he doesn't have to lead the pack.. which is what he is doing by challenging every dog that he encounters. Next, you need to get him into dog lessons. Let the instructor know what are you deeling with so that he or she will be prepared to help you. Look up dog clubs in your area, they are usually less exspensive than petsmart, and IMO they do a better job. Finnally, you have to PREVENT him getting loose. Ge a no pull harness, or even better, get a gentle leader head harness. You have to keep other dogs safe or there will be complaints about him and you may end up loosing him.
You can get him past this, ppl train their dogs through this all the time, but don't breed him. Fix him and keep him as a pet
Hi,
If you have friends with dogs, I would suggest spending time with them and there dog. The more time your dog spends around other dogs the better. It will just become routine to see other dogs. You should be right there when you first start this training. The more time he spends around other dogs the less agressive he should be towards them. They will have "testing" each other out to see who is "top or alpha" dog. Expect it to be heated but correct overly aggressive behavior, letting him know that his actions are not ok. In time he will come around. Good Luck
Neutering a dog does not solve behavioral issues. You are in need of a trainer that has experience with aggression problems. Start with a local, reputable trainer and follow his/her advice even if it means boarding school.
You've missed the opportunity to socialize your dog to other dogs, that can only happen when they are puppies. You now must rely on repetition to achieve any kind of social behavior towards other animals. You must also learn to apply the appropriate corrections to keep your dog in tow and prevent a more serious accident from occurring.
Well, considering that apparently you did not socailize him well with other dogs when he was little, Its to late to totally fix that problem now.But male dogs are known to be arrgressive (Somtimes VERY arrgresive like your dog) with same sex dogs. The only way to fix that a little is to get him fixed or just not take him anywhere.
So you want a litter of dog-aggressive puppies? Please remember that what exists in the parents is most often passed to the pups. This is NOT ideal temperament for a golden. Your dog should not be bred. (And that's not even taking into consideration the rest of your dog as far as registry, conformation, titles, pedigree, etc.) Temperament is what you have to live with. Sound temperament should be at the very top of any breeder's list of necessary characteristics in ANY breed.

Neutering, in combination with obedience training, should help your problem. Whole males, particularly alpha type males, present you with dominance issues. I'd look for a trainer that also routinely deals with aggression issues in dogs. Not just your local PetSmart.

You need to get a firm grasp on this dog's behavior, by putting in some time and effort at some expense. You've been lucky so far. What happens when the person with the little dog gets between your dog and hers, trying to save it, and gets severely bitten? Good luck with that lawsuit. Bet it costs more than the surgery and some training fees.
Neuter.
Get help with training!
Your dog is probally ill.
The dog was probably not socialized with other dogs. Most people don't think about that when they raise a dog. You should always introduce your dog at a very young age to many different kinds of people and animals so they don't get aggressive with them later in life. Also with him not being fixed he is also going to be more aggressive.

What is wrong with my dog?

My dog recently broke her leg and it now has a cast on it and appears to be healing well. She is on rimadyl for the swelling and pain of her leg. She had been acting fine a few days after she got her cast on but now she is sleeping all day, not eating, not drinking water unless I make her, and she is very tired and lethargic. So I took her to the vet again and they told me she might be in heat.
She is still bad and I just can't imagine that she would act like this just because she is in heat. Anyone had a similar situation?
She is a female, 1 yr old, pembroke welsh corgi.
Answers:
she has become a pill popping junkie. Take her to drug rehab
she is retarted
it is toooooooo old
Maybe the medication is not agreeing with her. Call your vet and explain the symptoms.

Seems Rimadyl can cause gastric problems and bleeding. Some dogs have died taking it. I wouldn't give the Rimadyl to my dog. Here is a link to explain the side effects:

http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_rim...

Hey Anwar: It is spelled retarded. You retard.
even ppl sometimes fall into depression after a bone break. sometimes something is released into the blood that causes this. and also heat can make a dog feel well..crappy lol just like girls.
Could it be a side effect of the meds? Or mabe depression from the cast? These are possibilties but to be sure I would get a second opinion.
Could be the medication.
seems to me like your vet would have given you a better answer than that. I'd do a web search for Rimadyl and see what kind of side effects have been linked to that medicine. Also get on the phone with your vet again and get a better diagnosis. Being in heat wouldn't make your dog lethargic and not want to eat. I've got dogs and cats, and i know how you feel, it's hard to see your animal in pain or suffer, talk to your vet again. :o)
It may be the medication. You said she was fine for a few days. Sometimes it takes some time for meds to really take affect in the system. Her leg is healing, so that is great. You may just have to assist her in eating and drinking. Try feeding her some chicken broth a few times a day. I did this to a dog that was so sick he wouldn't get up and he was fine in a week. I would also do a research on the med she is taking.

Give her a few days to a week even after she is done with the meds because they may take a day to get out of her system. If you have any more problems, take her back to the vet.
First.. why is she not spayed????? and take her to another vet. something is not right with your dog.
heat means she getting ready to like have puppies right? That could be why. Or maybe it's something with the medication.

What is wrong with my dog?

My dog and i are sitting on the couch together and all of a sudden he jumps up and freaks out, as if someone pinched hm or something.anyone have any idea what his problem is??thank you
Answers:
More than likely he just farted. My dog gets scared by her own farts all the time.
maybe he is scare somebody abused him
Could be epilepsy. Talk to your vet.
When you say he jumps up and freaks out. Do you mean as in running around and barking? Our Bichons are crazy and do that from time to time. Just out of the blue they will jump up and start barking and running around the house like mad for no apparent reason.

But if your dog jumps up real fast and start rolling on the floor and scratching? You may want to check him for fleas or hot spots.
Maybe it has sick, wait huw can we know we don't know the sick of your dog.hehehehe
he probably has fleas. That or he saw a ghost.
May have been something you said. That or maybe YOU farted. Dogs don't have to put up with that you know. Maybe you are hogging the TV remote. Try sharing or at least flip on to the animal planet once in a while. Then again, could be the voices in his head. Does your dog have a drug problem?? What about his mother? He could have just been an unfortunate crack baby...
probably got bit in the butt by a flea
If it is fleas
http://www.adamsfleacontrol.com/...
But I would still take him to the vet.
dogs have wonderful hearing. most likely the little guy has heard something that freaks him out. Just try to coax him when he does this. Good luck
maybe he has flees or tics try flee/trick remover see if that helps
your dog can die for all i care. but when you awnsered my question by saying shame on me you really pissed me off. My vet called the vets striaght away. I was just asking a question on the net. That ok with you you stuck freak!! F**k yourself!!

What is wrong with my 10 week old Labradore Retreiver puppy?

He has had diarria the past two weeks with blood in his stool. I took him to the vet twice and he has been diagnosed with Coccidia and Girardia and was given Albon and Panacur. I have exhausted all of the med and His condition has not changed and seems to have worsened. His stool is now a dark green color and he is Lithargic but still is eating well. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong with him?
Answers:
Change his brand of dog food, if wet food like the canned moist meat try the dry bag kind just not the same brand could just be that...I have a Lab he only eats the dry kind...
take him back to the vet and say hey, the meds didnt work, whats wrong with my dog?!
The vet probably knows better than any of us, bud.
He was diagnosed with BOTH Coccidia and Giardia? Poor pup.

Consider getting a second opinion from another vet, especially since the pup's situation has not gotten any better.
Hook worms? Go back to vet not the right diagnosis..Go ASAP
OK my dog had something similar... but it was campylobacteriosis . He was on a tylon powder for 21 days and everything finally went away... he had diarhea for a long time... and its very infectious.. Im not sure your dog has this, but read about it and bring it up to the vet...
http://yorkieviews.com/campylobacteriosi...
they need a feces sample, but it has to be fresh.with in 5 minutes
So call your vet NOW explain its not better and then call another vet make 2 appts go to both see what BOTH say...
Actually, he may be getting better.
Call a *different* vet.
You don't have to make an appointment, just see if you can talk to them over the phone, and telll them what the other vet did, and what's goign on now.
They can tell you if anything else is going on.
Get him back to the vet ASAP!
what is wrong with him?? you did not do your homework and you did not buy him from a reputable breeder,,, that is what is wrong with him....

What is worse: a puppy mill or backyard breeder?

Answers:
Neither is the best situation but a puppy mill is way worse. Most back yard breeders at least take care of the animals and care about them. A backyard breeder is someone who may only have 1 litter or several, but they are usually just wanting their cute little dog to repoduce or they are trying to make some money off of pure bred litters. They are not interested in the betterment of the breed, do no genetic testing and sometimes mix 2 breeds to get a "designer" breed. Very uninformed people, and they should not be breeding. A pupply mill is usually a huge operation where the miller has many, many different breeds of dogs, the females are just bred over and over and over again. The cages are filthy and stacked high where when one dog poops, it falls down into the cage of the other. The dogs are not loved, not vetted, not cared for and sometimes beaten. A puppy mill is a horrible place and I wish they could be outlawed. They breed sick pups that are taken away from their moms as early as 3 weeks, loaded into big semis and hauled off to the pet store. Many of these dogs will not survive and the ones that do, many will be sick. If you buy from a pet store remeber, you are just keeping these sickos in business. Puppy mills are the worst!
puppymill
how can one even compare the two but from my judgement i think it would be the puppy mill .
They are both bad. Its like asking which is worse aids or cancer.
While neither one is great for the overall health of the pet population, I think a puppymill is a lot worse. Generally, a back-yard breeder will take better care of his or her animals. They may not be as educated as they need to be in order to breed healthy puppies, but they tend to be humane and make an effort to find good homes for the puppies.

Puppymills are disgusting, inhumane environements where mother dogs are often not allowed out of tiny cages. Puppymills don't care where the puppies end up as long as they bring in a good price.
What's worse cancer or HIV? Be smart. steer clear of both and patronize only responsible breeders with a list of past customers you can visit or call to inquire about the condition of their animals. Puppy mills are pretty inhumane though dogs from them are not always unhealthy. Backyard breeders generally have no clue as to what good breeding is about and tend to use " My dog is so wonderful we wanted other to enjoy the same quality of animal" I am a professional breeder. I have 25 generations of proven stock. Every puppy we sell comes with a lifetime guarantee "If ever you cannot for any reason Keep your dog call us we will come to you and buy it back for exactly what you paid. In 12 years we have had only ONE dog returned. It's about quality.
Many people have no clue what they are talking about when it comes to these subjects, however I do. So here is my answer.

BYB (back yard breeder)- Someone who has a female, lets say Maltese, and they think it would be fun to have puppies, for a specific reason ie. good experience with the kids, want to recoup the cost of the original dog, etc. etc. etc, or they just think it would be fun. found another Maltese of the opposite sex. They breed them without testing their health, and have puppies.
And sell them, they aren't necessarily bad, they are just un-educated about breeding.

puppy mill- someone that has dogs, and they breed them every time they come into season, they usually keep them in wire cages, with little or no protection from the elements. They never get a vet visiting their dogs, and they do not care about the dogs. A puppy mill doesn't have to have a million dogs, they could have just two. Puppy mills sell to pet stores worldwide, and are sold for more than they are worth. The puppies have health problems, and are usually sick when obtained.

If you have to ask, puppy mills take the crown when it comes to crulety.
They can both be equally as bad. Puppy mills usually have more dogs that are being kept but both have dogs that aren't being treated fairly. Some backyard breeders know what they are doing and not all backyard breeders are bad. With that being said I think the majority of them are in some way or another harming animals. All puppymills are just downright cruel. No animal should be locked in a cage 24/7 without a breath of fresh air and never seeing the sun. Both can push dogs to their limit with having babies. It is never good for a female to have more than 1 litter a year. In my eyes neither should excist and people should pay more attention to where they get their dogs. If more people only new the truth. It's so sad:(
Puppy mill. back yard breeders ten to take better care of there dogs.
A puppy mill is worse, hands down, but some backyard breeders can be just as bad. It really just depends on how a backyard breeder conducts themselves in the breeding of their animals. Anyone humane and caring will probably be a great person to partron by purchasing from them.

The best way to see if you should purchase from a backyard breeder would be to meet the animals. See how they are around people. Do they wince or keep their tails between their legs around people - especially the owners? Abuse is one of those things that may not be the easiest to see, but you will know when you see it.

I'm not a pro, but I know animals fairly well. Body language is a very important thing to pick up on, be it animals or people (the "educated" animal).
backyard breeders may not have the proper resources for the dogs but may have more time to devote to them. puppy mills may have a larger amount of dogs to look after %26 may all be getting the same sub-par care so its hard to tell which is better. just do your research on the places you plan to visit beforehand.
Puppy mills by a mile.

Back yard breeders are only ignorant - the majority of them at least care about their dogs. They don't know anything about genetics, breeding, health testing, or placing puppies in the correct home, but they at least care about their own dog.

Puppy mill dogs are kept in abysmal, appalling, inhumane conditions. Plus there's the sheer volume of puppies they put out.
They are both bad. People who profit from the sale of animals don't really care about them. If you truly care about your pets, you do not make them have babies constantly so you can sell them to put money on your pocket.

Yes, some people do take good care of their breeding pets, but so what? They only take good care of them so that they are healthy and thus have healthy offspring that they can sell for a good profit. With these people is all about the money. It's a business to them. Some of them love doing it but that doesn't make it right. It鈥檚 illegal for people to have babies for the purpose of selling them so why can鈥檛 the same rules apply for other species?
Well, with over 8 thousand puppies shipped across contry per WEEK by puppy millers, the answer is pretty clear.

Most byb are private indivituals, who just don't understand why they should NOT breed their pet quality dogs.

Unfortunately, this country has not laid down breeding laws, licensing, TAX LAWS, etc, does not charge MUCHO BUCKS to be allowed to produce and make money, or we would not have such a huge and rising problem.

With idiots like Oprah and Miss Hilton "Helping" millers, mass production breeders and high volume byb to give the public the feeling "It's ok to buy and to support this act of cruelty", the ones who know the truth, fighing it and cry about it are pushed into the shadows.

Interesting wise, when such dogs show health problems, or related to their trauma behavioral issues, the RESCUES and it's RESCUERS are begged to take those "Defective dogs and puppies" in, many times no donation is offered either when we take care of the "Living garbage of the none-educated society".

Remember: THEY got no voice, they got no choice.

WE cry for them. WE want this to stop, but the only way this will ever happen is if people stop being so SELFISH and see beyond the cute puppy in the cage at the petshop, when impulsive behavior of some simply stops.

Humans are THE worst animals. They cause nothing but suffering and pain...
Probably a puppy mill. They intentionally and deliberatley keep their dogs in cages 24/7 without any human contact and breed for money just like backyard breeders.

BUT backyard breeders are the number one reason for the overpopulation of dogs. BYB's are just plain ignornant but I don't think they have the intent that puppy millers have.
Both are irresponsible and you should avoid rewarding either of them by paying money for the puppies. If they can't make money at it, they are less likely to do it again.

What is Ur opinions about puppy Prozac?

Answers:
Oh gee, there is prozac for animals now?? Nobody has even proven it is good for humans, yet.... in fact; it has been proven the cause of many suicidal tendencies.

No no no no no... just say NO to unnecessary drugs for your poor poor puppy %26 love on him, take good care of him!! Soon, you will see a much happier puppy.
What's your opinion on puppy training?
trail and error. may or may not work for the puppy, wait til it grows out of puppy hood to decide on anything. your vet can help

I agree some animals need chill pills and mood pills to help the sseen normal. they are like people but different.
I'm against it.
I think it can be a very good thing for some dogs - if used correctly. The main problem, in my mind, is that in this society that wants what it wants instantly, this pill is going to become the "quick fix" and people will be too lazy to do the behaviour modification training that's supposed to go hand-in-hand with the pill. And keeping a neurotic dog on pills for the duration of its lifetime is not a good thing.
What is this world coming to when they have such a thing as puppy Prozac. That is so unreal to me. First there is a cage, second there are shock collars, bark collars, and now you tell me there is puppy Prozac. When did dogs stop becoming pets and started to become a nuance that people can't cope with. Throw the dog in a cage for 8 hours, why not that will teach them.. Throw shock collars or bark collars on the dog why not. that will teach them..Throw Prozac at the poor little puppy cause he is doing what puppies do , run around and have fun. But don't forget only professional are allowed to do this. Give me a feaken break. Dogs are pets they were not to be cut out to be using cages, shock collars or what ever you all do to them.. Now there is Prozac. I will never understand how I had animals all these years and not once did I have to use any means like this on my dogs. Ok I am done yelling about this..It is just not right to do this to pets. You can't cope with a pet , not just you but anyone, then you all shouldn't have any.
Well as my cousin once said and is a vet tech. The people don't like it give them the tranquiler not the dog.
so in a nutshell. Think someone else needs the prozac not the dog. And puppies will be puppies until they are 2. then you will notice a huge diffrence in them. Take a chill pill and deal with it till your puppy grows up. Thats like giving your baby prozac, because they color on the walls or spit out there food.

What is this week's pet food recall item?

SmartPak Canine Voluntarily Recalls LiveSmart Weight Management Formula
Contact:
Paal Gisholt 774 773-1100
Consumers:
800 461-8898
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- PLYMOUTH, MA (April 25, 2007) - Wilbur-Ellis, a San Francisco-based supplier of pet food ingredients, has asked all pet food producers that used their rice protein concentrate to recall dog food produced using that ingredient due to a risk that it may have been contaminated with melamine. Melamine is an industrial chemical used to make plastics and fertilizers that can lead to illness or fatalities in animals if consumed.

SmartPak Canine used rice protein concentrate supplied by Wilbur-Ellis for a single, recently produced batch of its LiveSmart - Weight Management Formula dog food. SmartPak is voluntarily recalling that batch of the product. Virtually all of the potentially contaminated batch was recovered by SmartPak before going to customers; only 45 pet owners received shipments of the affected product and all of them have been contacted. SmartPak has not received any reports of pets taking ill as a result of feeding LiveSmart Weight Management food.

SmartPak learned of this issue last Friday April 20th, when its contract manufacturer, Chenango Valley Pet Food, Inc., informed them that a recently produced batch of LiveSmart Weight Management Formula was manufactured using rice protein concentrate sourced from Wilbur-Ellis. Immediately that day SmartPak: 1) stopped offering the LiveSmart Weight Management Formula product for sale on its website, 2) cancelled all pending orders from its customers for LiveSmart Weight Management Formula, 3) diverted monthly shipments on UPS trucks that had not yet been delivered, and 4) contacted all 45 affected customers via telephone and email, informed them of the situation, and told them to stop feeding the product.

SmartPak Canine also sent a complimentary replacement shipment of SmartPak portion paks containing another national brand of weight management food to ensure a consistent supply of food for their pet and to minimize the likelihood of a consumer continuing to feed the possibly contaminated food.

This was the first and only batch of LiveSmart food containing rice protein concentrate sourced from Wilbur-Ellis. No other LiveSmart foods contain rice protein concentrate as an ingredient. The following LiveSmart formulas do not contain either of the ingredients affected in the recall (rice protein concentrate or wheat gluten) and remain available for sale in portion-pak SmartPaks:

LiveSmart Adult - Chicken and Brown Rice
LiveSmart Senior - Chicken and Brown Rice
LiveSmart Puppy - Chicken and Brown Rice
LiveSmart Adult - Lamb and Brown Rice

Seems that the list is growing. The link in the sources box is the most recent (from today - more have been added).

Hopefully, all this will result in a ban on Chinese imports and an upswing on buying domestic wheat and putting our farmers back in business!

What is this small bald spot on my dogs foot?

I took him to the vet and she said that it may be mites and she gave me this cream to put on it but it doesnt seem like its working and also she didnt seem very sure about the mites in the first place.
Answers:
I am so tired of people say it might be the dog food there eating. No freeking dog food in the world even the worse would cause a bald spot. Next you need another vet. Why the frig didn't she scrape it and look under a microscope to see if it was mites? Is the dog chewing at it? that would be a sign of mites. If it was me I would be back at that vets office. saying you owe me for failure to provide correct service's. The cream didn't work and you didn't bother to check to see if it was mites. also if it was mites the spot would have started small and gotten bigger. It would probably also be flakey looking if it was mites. A great test for mites is to wipe the area off onto a piece of black material. as mites are white. if you see anything white moving you know you have mites. I learned this trick from a vet years ago when checking ears.
he might have scraped the fur off. or stepped on something
What kind of food is he on? A LOT of dogs lick their feet---it's a sign of an allergy to corn or wheat. Look at your food label!

Make a paste of baking soda and water--apply that. It will soothe the skin (%26 can not harm the dog, even if he licks it off).
Use the cream for the prescribed amount of time to be sure it isn't a skin mite. Other causes of hair loss include allergies, and excessive/obsessive grooming. Allergies are fairly common. If it just started the timing is right for seasonal allergies. Another sign of allergies is usually hair loss around the eyes. Hot Spots can also occur any where on the body.
it could be a ring worm dogs get them just like people and they have to have a creme for it as well but it will make them lose there hair and they grow so if that is what it is than h the bald spot will continue to grow untill treated.
Could be a lick granuloma, does it look raw, red or irritated or just bald. As far as the mite thing - did the doctor do a skin scrape to verify the diagnosis of mites? Try another doctor.

What is the world's largest dog?

Answers:
Its the english mastiff.
It's a close fight between the Great Dane and the Irish Wolfhound.
Irish wolfhound
Gibson, the great dane...see link below.
i think its the great dane, i saw the nations largest dog on oprah a few weeks ago

i think it was 7'2'' standing up[on 2 legs]
St Bernard
the largest dog breed by AKC standards is the Irish Wolfhound. now if you don't count people that overfeed their dogs, or breed abnormally large dogs just because they can. a fit, healthy dog of it's breed standard that should be the largest dog by height is the Irish Wolfhound.
I think that Irish Wolfhounds are the tallest, they barely beat the Great Dane in the A.K.C. standard.
Irish Wolfhounds:
males-32+ inches, females-30+ inches
Great Danes:
males-30+ inches, females-28+ inches

As far as body weight goes, it's between the St. Bernard, Newfoundland, %26 Mastiff.
Mastiff: 175-190 Lbs.
Newfoundland: males 130-150 Lbs; females 100-120 Lbs.
St. Bernard: 120-200 Lbs.
According to the pedigree website the Wolfhound is the biggest, but the mastiff %26 StBernard are the heaviest.
I've seen some very big Leonbergers though.
The Irish Wolfhound is the tallest dog, it may not be the heaviest dog, but it is definately the tallest.
St Bernard A full-grown male can weigh between 150 and 220 lb

Coming in 2nd would be the English Mastiff.
Tallest : Irish Wolfhound

Heaviest: Mastiff

There is a very tall Great Dane recently, but on average these are correct.
