What kind of puppy do you think she is?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/a...

I know what she is, but I want to know what everyone else thinks!
Answers:
VERY cute! She does look to have lab and pit in her with maybe slight dane qualities-I'd have to see the feet on the dane part though. I will say she is the cutest thing though and you should be very proud.
IT IS SO CUTE! I have no idea what it is though.
a black lab
Lab and pit bull mix
Looks like she could be either lab/great dane or some type of Pitbull mix.

Cute dog!
is so cutr looks likes s labs
Looks like a sweet little pit bull puppy.

Might be a mix, but looks like a pit.
lab and pitbull
Lab mix.

You just want to show off your puppy!! She's cute.
my friend has the SAME dog!:)
she is a black lab/boxer mix
am i right or am i right?

shar pei and border collie
its a mutt... nothing wrong with mutts .. they make the best dogs
BOXER
She looks like she's a kind of English Bulldog, she's a friggen cutey!
wow, I would have guessed pit, but now, I think boxer and mutt
a border collie mix? like a hound or heeler?

What kind of puppy do I have?

I adopted a puppy from a shelter. She is sooooo cute! But, noone can tell us what she is, not even 3 vets! How the heck do we find out? Do we have to wait until she is grown? We have been told anything from a puggle to an English Mastiff! Now come on...THAT'S a stretch! We have been looking on a lot of sites, and she most resembles a Rhodesian Ridgeback. Who can I go to so I can find out for sure! It doesn't really matter to us because she is our precious baby, we are just very curious.
Answers:
Unfortunately, you'll never know for sure. There is no genetic test for breeds, so all you can do is guess by looking at her features. Asking a few vets or dog trainers, people who see different breeds regularly and are familiar with their features, may help. The only useful bit of information breed would give you is approximate full-grown size, which you may already have some idea of. Just have fun with her!
There's really no way of knowing if it's a dog with unknown parentage. She could be a Heinz 57 - a total mutt.

Just enjoy her and love her regardless of what breed she is.
You answered your own question, Do you love her? Then I guess it really doesn't matter does it.
I would try to get a vet to get blood from her and match it to other purebread dogs blood. And then see what kind of purebread or mix it is. Good luck. Also why do u want to know? As long as u love and care for ur cute puppy who cares.
You have done the best you can by finding the breed she most resembles. People will always ask you, like they need to put a label on everything.

I have an 11 year old mixed breed, probably golden retreiver/chow mix from her looks and temperament. It has never mattered to me, but when I have her out in public, I get asked all the time. Once a man said "What is it?" and I said "A girl." He laughed and said that wasn't what he meant so I told him she was a dog.
i have the same problem.i got a 7 month old puppy "Simba" i have been told lab mix, pit mix, shephard mix, rottie mix.no one knows.my vet said that he thinks lab's in there but what else he doesn't know.some times i wonder what he is but i just am thankful that i saved him and that he is a SUPER smart dog...

What kind of pills are better for a dog with allergies?

Benadryl or Atarax .What one works better I am trying out the atarax first but if that dont work for my dog.I will go with benadryl. My vet gave me the atarax and it cost more alot more. What one works better for you?
Answers:
My vet told me Benadryl is safe to use. (I haven't used it on my dog though.)
I have known of alot of dogs using Benadryl, it will make them pee alot and not be able to hold it though.

What kind of pet food would you have to buy for Golden Retrievers?

Answers:
I wouldn't have to but I would prefer to buy Canidae.
No corn or wheat (empty fillers and not good for dogs as they cause allergies)
No wheat gluten or rice protein (cause of all the recent recalls)
Made with human grade indgredients from US suppliers.
Certain dog food such as Iams or One.
The same kind of food you should purchase for any other breed - a QUALITY food free of artificial coloring and useless fillers such as wheat and corn.

Quality brands that you can get at the pet store are Nutro, Nutro Ultra, Natural Balance, and Blue Buffalo. If you have a feed store or holistic food store, they may carry Innova Evo, California Naturals, Wellness, or Canidae, which are all excellent foods made from human-grade ingredients.

You can learn more about dog nutrition from the Dog Food Project website at http://www.dogfoodproject.com/

Keep away from commercial brands that are full of unnecessary (and often harmful) ingredients such as Iams, Beneful, Purina, Ol'Roy, Eukanuba, etc.
anything but iams---iams kills!----purina one is what my lab eats :)
What to avoid in your pet鈥檚 food

鈥y-products

鈥rains (soy, corn, wheat, corn gluten or wheat gluten)

鈥hemical preservatives (BHA, BHT, ethoxoquin)

鈥efined sugar, artificial sweeteners

鈥rtificial colors
the main thing is that you want a good, quality food. Typically, the cheap stuff is NOT the type you're looking for. Always look for a dog food where the first ingredient is MEAT (poultry, lamb, etc) and not a by product or meal, which can include feet, beaks, fur, feathers, etc.

My pets love Wellness brand. Totally organic, and pretty darned expensive. Since i'm not rich and i have quite a few animals, i feed Purina One Chicken and Rice. It's fairly affordable, my pets love it, and the nutrition label is pretty good considering the affordable alternatives. Talk to your vet, and he'll give you some ideas. I'm not big on the Science Diet brand myself, but those are decisions you need to make for yourself. Learn what the words on the labels mean, and you'll be doing your dog an amazing favor.
You wouldn't HAVE to buy anything...
but I do recommend Life's Abundance..

you can buy it at healthypetnet.com

It's human-grade, no by-products or scary chemicals...and my dog loves it!
bakers all in one mix its dried food but has all the vitimins calcium and all the natural things a dog needs,,,,,,,,,,,,
The best kind of pet food you can buy is Canidae. With all of the recalls, I did alot of research and actually called the company. They only use human grade ingredients, meaning they are safe for humans to eat. Canidae actually has their own factory who produces their food and there has never been any recall. And all of their ingredients come only from the United States. AND, Contrary to popular belief, chicken meal has more protein in it than regular chicken. It is NOT made of beaks and feet, only quality meat. There is only 7% protein in chicken and 25% protein in the chicken meal. The chicken is all moisture. The Canidae site explains better what the difference is. You'll have to locate the correct tab, but it is in there. Here is their website:
www.canidae.com
I hope this helps!
mine eats tescos value as it is the only food his bowel can cope with as he does have varios stomach and bowel problems anything else doesnt do him any good medically

What kind of markings should a black and white Boston Terrier have???

Are they more expensive when they have a strip of white down the middle of their face??
Look at the pic of my female BT?? Does she have some type of deffect ?? I still think she is gorgeous!!

Answers:
Wow! She is Adorable!! I love her ears... I don't really know about the breed standards, but she certainly is cute!!

If you are wondering about it you can always check out http://www.AKC.org or http://www.dogbreedinfo.com to find the breed standard, and to look at other pictures of Boston Terriers.
What kissable lips you have, my dear . . . Don't know much about dogs except chihuahuas . . . sorry.

What kind of floor put on dog kennel?

My dog loves to chew so I need to find a floor to put under his kennel that is 40" X 80" that he cannot chew apart. Any ideas and where I could find something like that? I thought about a very thick plastic as he would tear up wood and he does not like chewing plastic.
Answers:
I can't believe nobody suggested this... Dig the dirt out a little, and fill with sand/gravel. Then cover the whole thing with plastic decking. They sell it everywhere, but you could find it online with a simple google search or at your local hardware stores...
http://epsplasticlumber.com/pics/woc_dec...
that's just a picture, but this works great in dog kennels. It keeps your dog mud-free and becuse of the gravel, it will provide excellent drainage... you can just hose it out!!
Good luck!
half wooden half carpet. To sleep and to play.
Metal crate pan.
Lay tile there. I think anything else can be eaten. I lost a linoleum floor once, and another dog ate the plastic crate pan in a matter of hours. If you want it to be removable lay it on a piece of plywood. I am sure you can find tile scraps free and it would last forever and be really cheap.
try a wood that has the size of it.

What kind of dogs is similar to this description?

i have to have a female dog it has to stay small full grown and it cant have alot of hair it has to have short hair and not shed alot.that cost under 200 dollars(i'm helping a friend)
Answers:
Poodles they're really good with kids...my grandma use to have one that I loaded everywhere with me when I was little, she never would bite or anything, but they're not short hair, they do require grooming. I realize this is a big dog but they're golden retrievers are so good with kids and typically not too costly. If your having trouble then I know my mom did a google search for the dog for me, where she took a survery of what she wanted from a dog, and they told you what kind was best for you.
teacup chihuahua
Go to a shelter and find a dog that fits the bill -- and more importantly, that your friend LIKES. It will cost under $200 to adopt this dog.

Good luck.
Miniature Pinscher
A miniture poodle or a toy poodle depending on how small you want her to be, a peek a poo or even a chiauaua but better swtill go to an animal shelter and look at the dogs. The shelter staff can tell you which will probably stay small. There will probably be some toy poodle mixes for example and you will be spending under $100 and saving a pup or adult dog's life.
poodles don't shed...they are small and you may find one for that price somewhere. Pounds sometimes have poodles.
You can get a high quality stuffed animal that doesn't shed much..
You could try to find an Italian greyhound for 200.00, but get it health checked because it is very unusual to find one for anywhere near that price.
Chinese Crested (twice this dog breed had members voted as world's ugliest dog) Unusual looking, not easy to find, and costly in most cases.
Mexican Hairless Chihuahua- very tiny, you might find one this price in Texas, but they are not actually hairless, just very very short short hair.
You could get a very high quality stuffed animal for that price and it won't shed and could be good for a person with allergies.
Go to the pound or look in the paper, you dont have to spend alot to have a good dog and it doesnt have to be a purebred.
We have two min pins and they are great dogs but I really dont think mine would tolerate small children well so the person who suggested them needs to let you know if they have one.
We also have a mixed breed that is a wonderful dog. Look around you can find great dogs with no fee just be sure they are healthy and have never been abused.
Depending on where you live you can get the perfect dog. A Jack Russell or any of the Terrier breeds would be perfect. If you live in a rural or country area, you can probably find one if you look on the horse or cattle farms.

If your in the city...
I get the feeling your friend is not a Poodle kind of person, but if so ...that would also be a great choice. But they can get really expensive.
Don't go with anything that has "teacup" in the name. Most of the time these dogs have major problems down the road like death! They are too small. Anything that is worth $200 is going to have bigger vet bills. If you need a cheap dog go to the pound. Other wise, shih tzu with puppy cut or maltese are good. Chihuahuas are NOT good with kids becuase they are so small. Poodles are good and they don't shed. Puggles are really cool. Hope this helps!
get a dog that will not be aggressive to the child. some kids will play rough with a dog, at 2 they don't understand their strength when playing with a dog. peeks are good with kids, but they have lots of hair. jack russels are good dogs, they have very little hair and can be love able if roughed up by a 2 year old. poodles and Chihuahuas will bit if they don't like people. especially a Chihuahua, they can be very moody as they get old. good luck in your search.

Sammy looks to be a very special breed. One that many people would love to have, but only a few people ever truly do.

He is your Soul Dog! You knew it the moment you saw him, but didn't realize it. The "breed" of this special dog isn't important and I think, by your description of him, that you already know this in your heart.
But you are hoping to find out what breed he might be...
My best guess would be a border collie cross. They are wonderful dogs that love to work and be with their family.
Thank you for sharing Sammy's story with us! I wish there were more people like you... people who are willing to see the beauty in something others would find ugly.
Good luck and give Sammy a scritch behind the ears! :)

Research what you and your family wants in a dog. Is someone always home, or are you always busy? Do you have a big yard or live in an apartment? Do you have the time to walk a dog (or groom a dog) everyday? These are important questions to ask before choosing your companion for the next ten plus years!

Plus dogs aren't orn with their ears up. Cropping is a very painful procedure thatis done on puppies of certain breeds because it is what the breed standard calls for. Sometimes it is done to prevent ear infections, but it is noramlly simply cosmetic. Please consider that also!
Chihuahuas, or maybe Pomeranians.
Gee that could be anything..
check your local animal shelter. There are hundreds of puppy's looking for homes. You might be interested in a Shepperd, or a pit mix. They have ears that stand up and are really cute! At the shelter I volunteer for we just had a German Shepperd puppy come in and the ears were bent over and to the side! they were so cute, he got adopted really quick. If you dont see anything at the shelter when you first go, dont give up. they get in dogs and puppy's all the time. Keep checking back and check there website. also

Practically speaking; if you live in an apartment a small dog is better. Large dogs NEED lots of room. If you live in a house any dog is good.
When I lived in a large house with a huge backyard I had an Irish Setter. I just love their long, red hair. And they are so lovable.
Anyway, ADOPT whatever dog you want and you will get unconditional love.
Good luck.

I did have two bearded collies before and they are wonderful dogs, both of which lived to 16 years old.. I decided to get TAZ from the SPCA and have found him to have such a good personality. Taz and I still take a walk every morning, (approximately 3 km), besides several "business" walks around supper and before going to bed. What kind of dog would be best for me?

i want a small eazy to train house dog i have a infant so its got to be good with kids
Answers:
I suggest looking at a site like http://www.dogguidance.com/smalldogs.htm... It has a list of small dogs with details about them. That way you may find a small dog type that suits you and your infant best. Good Luck. :)
Any dog can be "easy to train" and "good with kids" provided you have the time, patience, and consistency to train the dog to do such.

You can read here about house training, to get an idea of what to expect: http://www.libertydogtraining.com/faq_ho...

There are a lot of things to consider before getting a dog, and to ensure you get one that meets your lifestyle. Please visit below and email me if you would like me to help you choose a dog. I'll email you some questions, and we will go from there.
There are many breeds that will 'fit the bill' but you might want to consider getting a mixed breed. A small dog from a shelter would be great -- you'd be giving a homeless dog a chance for a new life! Plus the people at the shelter should be able to tell you about your dog's personality.

Puppies are a TON of work. House-training is hard enough, but has anyone ever told you about the CHEWING?? Dogs will chew any and everything, until they are at least 18 months old! Which is why I prefer to adopt adult dogs...

Poodles are generally considered the smartest of all breeds and they make superb pets. Spaniel type dogs are also great, although you'd have to be careful not to get one that was too nervous. My brother and his family ADORE the two Cocker Spaniels they've had. Terriers can be hard to train. Dachshunds are great, but tend to have back problems. Corgis are nice. Beagles are VERY independent. Pomeranians and Papillions are very, very cute but can be yippy. In fact, almost any small dog can be yippy...

Good luck and I hope you, your baby and the dog have a great life together!
I heard jack russell terriers are good with kids.
i would recoment a cavalier king charles spaniel.
they are about the size of a shetland sheepdog, and simply adore children and just about everyone else. they are also quite hardy, and their coat requires not really that much care. a brushing every 2 days would keep it tangle free.
they are quite easy to train and eager to please, and very, (and i mean, very) affectionate.
We have a 4 month old and three pitbulls they are all so loving and caring. I will never own another breed of dog. If you have an infant a puppy might be a little much to handle right now. We got two of our dogs from an animal shelter and they were already house broken and everything. But pitbulls as long as they are trained right they are very good with kids/infants.
big dogs are great too- a low energy bigger dog can be a lot less trouble than a hyper small dog. don't think that you have to get a small dog.

i would adopt an adult dog that is already used to being around kids... there are lots of them at the pound needing homes. i adopted 2 senior dogs and they are the best. no housetraining, no chewing, no teaching them to behave around the kids.
You might find some suitable options here http://www.dog-obedience-training-review...

Good luck with your choice.

What kind of dog would be best for children?

Just wonderin'
Answers:
Retrivers are cute and furry. Of course a lot of people have them. I have a flat-coated retriever (its a black retriever)
hot dog's. and they wont leave a mess on the carpet.
Any dog would bring joy, however some terrier breeds can have a quick temper with smaller children
A chihuahua or another toy dog breed. They get on well with children and if they are introduced from young they are very protective and loyal to the child.
A Labrador retriever or a golden retriever puppy would be good. But be sure that when you get it it's not to wild.
labs are excellent family pets. just make sure you have your puppy trained not to jump up on your kids. they weight about 70-80 lbs fully grown. they love the water, they loveeee tennis balls.
It all depends on what breeds-groups-size you like. Alot of large dogs are hyper their first years, but realy settle down into being great with children and babies. Such as the famous, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, and large breed Mutts.

Shetland Sheepdogs are workers(my friend's dog), but he loves to be around kids! He was hyper until around six months, to almost a year. But he still was gentle with kids and babies.

Then Welsh Corgis and Yorkies are also good with kids. Realy loving, and not to hyper.
Depends how well behaved your kids are.
If your kids are the ones that will climb on the dog, pull the dogs ears, yank on its leash...dont get a dog at all.

German shepards and dobermans are very good with children. They are protective of the family, but tolerate children "riding them". I had a german shepard when i was born, till i was 6. My entire family has had dobermans, and they are very sweet dogs, they love children.

Most people think golden retrivers and labs are good family dogs, yet ive seen more people get snapped at, growled at, and bit by those dogs more than any other dog.
In my own personal experience you can't go wrong with a golden retriever, they are good natured and like to play. I had a german shepard as a kid and it was very protective of me and my sister but it would get aggressive toward strangers.
cavalier king charles spaniels. definiately!! they are so, so, so friendly! i have never met one that isn't fun, loving and playful! they are certainly a great dog to have for kids- i am 15 and my family has one. he is great, doesn't shed, very playful and EXTREMELY CUTE!
so give it a try the only down side is some of them snore! but there is an operation you can give your dog if this is the case- but it only occurs in some dogs.
hope i could help!
cya :)
a would not suggest a terrior, as they can get snappy. But it depends on their up bringing.

I have always gone with bigger dogs such as the border collie, they are loyal and protect people, and they can also be playful. Our border candy we got as a puppy, my little brother use to carry her around, though not meaning to, by her neck, she is fine, and as we have grown she has changed from a caring and gentle to a boundful adult with youthful times.

She is lovely, and as a young dog when we were growing up, if one of us was hurt, she would come over and sit with us, if we needed help, she would get eth attention of an adult, she was hit by a car just after she has 24 puppies, (I know its a large little) only 13 survived, any way, we had to hand feed and cre for puppies while she revovered, it was hard, and the vet didnt think shed survive, with abroken spine and her nose not attatched to the bone, she made a ful recovery, still shakes her tush more than normal due to broken spine, but 8 or 9 years on and still going strong. Shes about 10, and is an energietc dog, i dont think you can get any otehr true friend, we also have a Cavalier King Charles, not suited for little children, but make great family pets and are playful and friendly.

I hope this helps
I think I Golden retriever because they are very gentle. But it does depend on the kid.
Tip: DON'T get a popular breed like a golden retriver. If you get one of those, you are telling the world that you "got on the bandwagon" and got a popular breed, wheather or not it was the right breed for you. Besides there are lots of other, overlooked breeds, shuch as the Berger Picard?, that would be just a good.
This is just my opinion but... I think a small dog like a Pembroke Welsh Corgi would be perfect! Kids would probably love to pet there dog and i think Corgis like lots of love! Lemme know what breed you pick!
golden retrievers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/golden_retr...

they are so kind and gentle. and absolutly adorable!
http://www.catxdog.com/walls/golden%20re...

heres a picture of a really cute puppy!
Schipperke's are great dogs with children coming or in the house already.they have a very polite disposition about them also they are very protective of their families, if someone comes up to the kids that your dog doesnt like, they will let them know.if something isnt right in the house, they will let you know, they are very intellegent dogs learning things really quickly and lots lots more..it would be worth checking out wikipedia or searching for schipperke clubs of usa online, we have one and my mother has 2 and they are the best dogs you could ever ask for.
Labrador Retrievers, they are great family dogs. Mine tolerates anyhting my young nieces and nephews throw at them. Not only that the kids have a ball with them. They go swimming and kayaking together in the summer and sledding in the winter. They are just great all around dogs with a fun loving devoted personality.
Labradoodle don't malt very much and brill with children .Research them.

What kind of dog would be a good playmate/mate for a chihuahua/terrier?

My dog, Lily, is four months old, but I don't like leaving her without a companion when I am not here, and I heard it's better to raise two dogs together rather than one, so which dog should I get that would be best for Lily?
Answers:
I have noticed with my chihuahuas that they seem to prefer their own kind. Sad but true. They are quite snobbish with the two little shih tzus. The three chihuahuas all get along beautifully. They mostly ignore the shih tzus which is sad because the shih tzus are awfully fond of them!
Get a cat to entertain her. My friend did it.
either a terrier or a chihuahua
Call the pound and/or pet stores. Tell them you are looking to get a friend for your pup. Most places will set up a kind of play date for you. Then you can take your dog in to meet some other pups. Then your pup can decide who it's new roommate will be. The people there can help you decide the best friend for your pup.
Edit
and you don't have to go for another smallish dog, we have small and large breeds at my house, and they all play great together.
I'm a big fan of two dog households - I have always had one. I'd get another small dog of a similar mix or breed. If she is spayed get a neutered male. A spayed female/neutered male combo works best - less problems with dominance and establishing pack order.
well chihuhaus are small dogs and so are terriers so prolly one of those thypes of dogs or atleast another small dog. Make sure its around the same age as lily. cuz an older dog mite not want to paly with a pup. hoep i helped.
Any small breed or mixed breed will do!

Please consider a rescue to join your family!
I think aChihuahua would be perfect!

What kind of dog will suit my lifestyle?

I love dogs more than anything, I live for them! So my mom said I could a dog in 2 years (a DRAG, I'll be 13 by then) and to past the time I wanna see what kind of dog I should get and spend my time getting prepared for the circumstances and living conditions. ok well I need a dog that can play with itself. I will be at school for 7 hours! My mother will actually be sleeping (night shift) but will get up when the first 4 hours pass and then walk it and play with it and leave it alone for about an 1 hour more. Then the rest of the day it will be enjoying life. But when it is alone it will have alot of stuff to pass it's time probably for the first 2 or 3 hours. I want a walking partner and I will take it to the park and play fetch or Frisbee or something with it. I want a dog that is friendly, and playful. I wouldnt want a dog that has major health problems and I owuld like a dog from small-medium. I know you can't find a perfect dog but something close to it will be just fine. Thank u!

Wow, you are only 11 years old!!

You definitely have your head on straight, and are more mature and responsible than most adults twice your age, I am quite impressed

Portuguese Water Dog 17 to 22" tall, 35 to 55 lbs
English Cocker spaniel 26 to 39 lbs
WELSH CORGI 12" tall 30lbs
beagle 18 to 30 lb
Tibetan terrier 20 to 24 lbs
miniature schnauzer 13-15 lbs
papillon 4-9 lbs

Description of each can be found here, you might want to try the breed selector
http://animal.discovery.com/breedselecto...
The golden retriever is the ultmate family dog, and is great for playing. You'll have to groom the though. Labs are great too, and labradours.
Well, in my opinion...you should check with your local animal shelter to get a dog. Not only do they have their shots and are fixed and screened for health problems, but rescued dogs often seem to know they've been rescued. Plus, you can get advice from the animal control officer on the dogs they have there as to personality and temperment.

PLEASE get a shelter dog. There are so many that will never find homes, and I promise you'll have a friend for life. Mine was until she died of old age last July.
go to www.akc.org and read about every breed... you have plenty of time to research .... good luck.. have fun...
I have a dog finally and it is a chihuahua and I am st school 4 seven hours 2 and my mom stays at home it sleeps all night and enetertains itself for the day and when I get I it plays with me it is actually a teacup one and it is soooo cute sweet and loving really luvs its owner so this is the perfect dog for a teenager
You sound exactly like me when I was your age. But I had to wait until I moved out of my parents house to get my first dog. And I think you should get your dog during the summer if you can, while your out of school, that way you can spend more time bonding with it, and training it. And there are so many breeds that would be great for you. I think you should buy a dog encyclopedia that lists ALL the different breeds, and details about each one. I have a few of them. I found them to be helpful, and fun to read. You can also go to http://dogbreedinfo.com/ to look at all the different breeds, and also helpful information on how to care for a dog. I spent 21 years trying to find my perfect dog, I finally got my first dog 2 months ago. I ended up adopting a 1 year old pit bull from an animal shelter. She is perfect for me, and she is very loved. When you are able to get a dog, consider adopting. Rescued pets can sometimes make the best pets. Good Luck in your search for a dog! I know it will be very loved.
It definately sounds like you're a golden retreiver or a lab kind of person. But muts are always great dogs too. Go to your local shelter and rescue one. Your parents will appreciate it because they dogs have their shots, most of the time come neutered/spayed, and its a lot less expensive. They are always appreciative of a new home.
A Cavalier is an excellent companion but they need to live indoors. They are a small dog but very adaptable. They love to play and also don't mind having to settle on the lounge chair to chill out for a few hours each day. An idea might be to aim to get your new pup at the very beginning of a long vacation time, so you have lots of time to spend with it before you have to return to school. A slightly older puppy might be easier to train than a real tiny baby one. Maybe 4-6mths old. Also, use the next couple of years to find out all you can about the breed "Cavalier King Charles Spaniels," and try to get in contact with a reputable breeder who can advise you on the best temperament to suit your personality and home situation. A respected breeder will also be a better bet for a healthy dog than just buying one out of the paper or from a pet shop. It is ok to ask breeders what kind of health testing they do for their dogs. Don't be fooled by thinking a crossbred puppy will be problem free - sometimes the crossbreeds have health problems too.

What kind of dog was Petey from the Little Rascals?

Answers:
PIT BULL BABY!!!

No other breed could work with a bunch of kids without hurting them.

FYI - Cheaper by the dozen with a house of kids. Guess what PIT BULL BABY!!! Best breed for kids!
im not sure
He was a Pit Bull.
Pit Bull.

American Bull Staffordshire Terrier
hw woz either a pit bull or a american bull dog looked more like an american bull dog to me!
Pit Bull
Pit Bull
Jack Russle
PEDIE WAS AN AMERICAN BULLDOG.

I have a bio on the show and he was an American Bulldog and there were two of them.

He was the same breed as CHAMP on Homeward Bound.
Petey was a pitbull.

Sadly, he was poisoned. The myth/legend was that there was someone who was jealous of Petey - and what a smart dog he was - not to mention the money he earned doing the Little Rascals.

Other famous pitbulls were/are

Popsicle - left to die in a freezer by thugs - he is the country's most successful drug dog.

Weela - KenLRation's dog of the year rescued over 30 people from a dangerous flood.

Dakota - one of the country's most honored search and rescue dogs.

Sgt. Stubby - the country's most decorated war dog (WWI)

Pitbulls get a really bum rap - but they're really great dogs. Smart, easily trained, loyal and well, just great dogs.

The sad thing is that so many people are afraid of Pitbulls - because many owners just want something that looks tough. Too many times the dog is blamed for human error.

So, parents, teach your children to be gentle with dogs - all dogs. Watch them when they're around dogs so that the child doesn't torment the dog into reaction (remember, dogs don't hands and can't push a toddler away)

And Owners of all dogs. Leashes are meant to be used. Use them. And dogs are pack animals. Don't leave Fido out in the back yard where he'll go crazy. Think of being in solitary confinement. What an awful sentence!

and spay and neuter! there are too many puppies out there.
American Staffordshire Terrier
"Lucenay's Peter" was a UKC-registered American Pit Bull Terrier, who was also one of the first Pit Bulls to be registered with the AKC as a Staffordshire Terrier(the breed name was changed to avoid confusion with the already-recognized Bull Terrier, and later "American" was added to avoid more confusion with the English Staffordshire Bull Terrier). Actually, there were more than one Pete, all decendants of the original dog. He was most definately an American Pit Bull, NOT an American Bulldog, although later in the modern movie version, an American Bulldog was used to play that part. You can read about Pete AND view his UKC pedigree on the site below, proving that he was most certainly a Pit Bull.

What kind of dog treats do you think I should get for my chihuahua?

I've tried many but he doesn't want them...I would like to train him to do things like sitting and other tricks but he doesn't like treats.hmmmm...
Answers:
Just because he doesn't like treats doesn't mean you can't train him - In fact, it's better if you DON'T train with treats - A lot of dogs end up "Food motivated", where they will only respond to commands if there is a treat involved.

Use extreme praise or toys when training.
Try tiny bits of meat.. or another brand of treats. Maybe he just likes toys more in general.
Keep any eye on the pet product recall, to make sure you do not end up purchasing a treat that is recalled. Many stores have taken all recalled products off the shelf, but with more products being recalled everyday, you have to be careful.

A friend of mine, does a wonderful idea. She used the dog's food, as a treat, too. That way, there's no ''fussy'' dogs.
I train my dog with bits of hot dogs it worked for me.
Well if he doesn't like treats then don't bother with them. Go with what makes your Chi most happy! If you do try out a few brands of treats be careful which ones you pick! I'm sure you are just as worried as the rest of us with the pet food scare lately! I recently bought a cookbook through a rescue group (PAp911) for food and treats! There are all kinds of great treat ideas floating around that you can make at home.
Cheese . You can cut it in little quarters .

It's irresitable for dogs
I have several Chihuahuas and they are fairly easy to train but most are very finicky eaters. I have tried several treats from the store and have not found much they like. I will use small pieces of meat such as steak or pork that is left over from meals on occasion, but they don't always want to eat. Your dog is happy when they please you, so with that in mind praise is the best way to go. Most dogs naturally do what you want to "train" them to do (i.e. sit, lay, speak,etc.). If you can use these commands when they do these particular things, they will put the command with the activity and will be "trained". It does take time and alot of patience on your part. Good Luck!
Treats aren't necessary to train your Chi, but it can help. Meat treats are good, but mine love cheese! They also love chicken breast (cut up into very small cubes, of course), or chicken "jerky." You can buy little rounds or tenderloin strips of dried chicken in most grocery stores. My dogs are crazy for the jerky (which is actually harder than the jerky you and I would eat) and it takes them several long minutes to eat one.

As far as other treats are concerned, stay away from hard bones, the plastic or starchy BOODHA bones, and definitely stay away from rawhide! It can bind them up and cause bowel obstruction that can kill them.

EDIT: FOR GOD'S SAKE, DON'T GIVE YOUR DOG CHOCOLATE MILK, OR CHOCOLATE ANYTHING. Dogs lack the enzyme to digest milk in any case, and it can cause stomach upset and loose stool. Chocolate in any amount can KILL your little friend!
try giving it a small piece of steak or something not an entire one or try giving it a little chocolate milk...my dog loves it but be careful, chocolate milk causes dogs to get a bit hyper and they may start ripping stuff if given large doses (sounds like a drug doesn't it)

What kind of dog that stays 2 feet long and stay under 75 pounds?

Answers:
A Basset Hound.
I own three right now. They are the best dogs you could ask for.
They stay about 2 feet long or so and never normally weigh above 75 lbs.I've never heard of a Basset weighing over even 70 lbs.
Well, my nine year old Basset, he's sort of smaller than most and he weighs about 45 lbs, then my 3 yr old girl, man shes a pretty big set basset hound and weighs only 55 lbs. My other is just a 8 week old puppy.
But they are truly a wonderful, gorgeous, well behaved breed.
You can always go with a sheep dog or a sheep dog mix. My dog is a sheep dog/Lab mix(might have a couple of other types in there, im not sure) and she is about 55 lbs and around 2 feet long.
Daschund
a basset hound
West Highland Terrier
snoopy
Get a Rat Terrier they are the best kind of dog that you can get. Or maybe a Cocker Spaniel thay are real good dogs both are good with kids and both are good watch dogs.
miniature schnauzer
I would personally choose a chiuahua or a beagle but watch out for the few that grow to enormous sizes. Good luck!

What kind of dog should we get?

I have 2 kids (5 and 3) and we have lots of room to let it run. Please help me out.
Answers:
you should get a Labrador i have one myself and they are great with children!!! and they are very smart and learn fast. also learn how to potty train fast too. get a lab. very good dogs. also u should get a girl. they are more gentle than boys.
how about a collie they are great with kids. or a great dane they are known as a gentle giant.
try a golden retriever or a lab great watch dogs and friends
BULLDOG
We have a black Lab and we also had a Lab before this one. I would really recommend this breed. Ours love children, are smart and if you have alot of room to run or swim :), they will love it! They are good dogs!
Golden retriever is america's favorite dog, this breed is very friendly with family and loves kids.
Also is a very beautiful breed.
how about s husky or a german pointer dog?
theyre great with kids and very friendly, lovable, and fun
german shepards they are so loving and they love children
how a bout an English puttle they are family dogs that love to run they are cool my friend has one it,s a short hair. and they are fun to play with and run a round with. i would buy one if i wasn,t renting.
I suggest a mix breed. Go to your local shelter.
Well I've had my dog since I was 6 my brother was 11 and my sis was 9, She's part german shepard, Part husky, She's really beautiful just a big baby I guess you could say. I think a german shepard would be a really gentle yet good dog.

Good Luck! PeAcE~LoVe~RoCk'N'rOll
the type of dog really matters on how active your family is. how much shedding can you handle? I sugest you go to dogbreeds.com or AKC.com they have good info on dog breeds also don't buy your dog from a pet store they are like puppy factories and the puppys aren't usually healthy. ask people with dogs or a local vet where a good breeder of the breed you think is right for your family. old dogs are calmer but puppys are like a clean slate you can mold them into whatever you want with the right training.
depending where you are from. staffies and believe it or not pit bulls are great child friendly dogs, they are very good with children, but its best to get them from pups, and a good family breeder they have a bad name but its because they get into the wrong hands, its all about the deed not the breed
i owned tons of different breeds and the only breed I fell totally in love with is the Labrador Retrievers. As far as versatility, devotion, intelligence goes they are one of the best. They love kids and other dogs. They are fun loving, and easy going. My nephews take my Labs hiking, camping, kayaking, swimming and in the winter the go sledding with them. The kids can interact with so much and they are very tolerant. I have young nieces and nephews that are tough on them and they just sit there and take it. I do not have to worry about the kids and their friends when they are aound the dogs. The Labs are also highly intelligent so they are easy to train. Their devotion to you and family is unmatched.
Check out the Miniature Schnauzer. Very protective, tough, a little hard headed, and very loving. Shedding hair, none
definitely go with a lab, they are the most loyal, lovable dogs that you can get! i love my lab. I have a 3 year old and a 5 month old and he will follow the 3 month old anywhere she goes and he is not rough, she could do anything to him and he will just lay there or sit there then lick her! and he will sit next to my 5 month old if she is in her swing or bouncy.
they are just all around good dogs, i recommend getting a lab :)
schnauzer

What kind of Dog should i get?

My mom's friends friend has a maltese and a french poodle, she wants to give me one and she told me to chose one but i loves poodles and malteses and i just had my other toy poodle euthanized cuz it was sick and it died. so what should i get?? i want a poodle in memory of my other one and i wanna get a maltese becuase i love the long coat, but i still want both! cant have both just one!! HELP MEE PLEASE!!!
Answers:
well instead of focusing on which breed, focus on the dog itself. whats its personality like? is it nippy? friendly? ask your self these questions and compare the dogs personality. if you dont think the dog has the right personality that will suit you then get the other one. good luck! hope this helps!
So sorry that you lost your pet! It might be best to get a dog different than the one that died. I would get the maltese, and maybe later get anoither poodle.
here... the perfect solution.
A POODLE CROSSED WITH A MALTESE. haha not even kidding
Do you like both? Do they both like you? Let the dog chose you.
I'd go with the maltese, but I'm a little prejudice because I have my adorable maltese Cupcake sitting on my lap right now... Maltese have all the wonderful features a doggie could have.
Do the memory thing and keep searching Petfinders.com for a maltese to rescue.
a collie or greman sheaperd mix, thats my opinion though
get a chihuahua!!!
Maltese
some times it is better to get a different dog from the one you have try the other breed you might like it just as well as the poodle
buy both

What kind of dog should I get?

Ok me and my grandmother have been thinking of letting me get a dog. But here is the thing what kind? I want one that I can walk and play with, but wont get in the way of my grandma. She doesn't want a Yorkshi, and I don't want a Pit Bull so wany dogs that would fit for both me and my grandma?
Answers:
Welsh corgi's are a good choice, smart, loving, loyal, good natured, not big, but not small either, they are a good mid size dog that is versatile, they can be a couch potato if you want to just hang and watch tv, or they are ready to go boating, hiking , camping, anything you want to do, as long as they are with you, they are happy!! They average about 25-30 lbs or so, depending on pure bred or mixed with something, either is nice. More along that line would be shelti's, border collies, labs, springers, but I will be honest, just give me a good old fashioned pit bull, staffordshire bull terriers are between 15 and 40 lbs, and they are an awesome dog, read up on them. Anyhow, thats my opinion based on 14 years of dog grooming and 17 years of rescue and transports
Greyhounds are playful and have a moderately low energy level, and they are so adaptable...plus they don't run on attention and wount hound (no pun intended) your grandma.

Anything in the sproting group has a high enough energy level, but they will bug your grandma...these dogs are very social...

Most toy dogs, except the flat nosed breeds will do well with you...
how bout a german shepeard they are loyal dogs and like to play and very fun...i have one and he is my baby they are fun to play with.
You could get a shih- tzu. Or a golden retriver.
I think temperament will be most important and the physical abilities of your grandmother should also be considered. Will you or your grandmother take on most of the dog responsibility? Will the dog be home with her during the day?
My mom is in her mid 60s and not the strongest, but my husband and I have a labradoodle puppy and my mom can manage her. The puppy's temperament is very mellow, if she were more active like some of the other puppies in our class, my mom may not be able to walk with her.
When we were looking at different breeds we used a site called Best Dog. It has a great search engine that can help narrow down your breed choices
Border colies or Australian shepherds are great. They are playful yet cuddly and are easy to train.
get a Shih Tzu. Unless you're thinking of a larger dog, go with a Golden Retriever.
I think a sheltie would be a good breed. They are very smart. They need frequent walks or they will become yappy, but if trained well and exercised often, they tend to be more reserved than other breeds. They seem to me to be less likely to bug your grandma, but would also be a good companion to you.
If you're thinking of adopting one from a shelter, then the best thing to do is for both of you to go and select the animal together after spending some time with it at the shelter. This will give you a chance to see if the dog has a very playful personality, its very laid back or something in between. The size of the animal doesn't matter too much because there are big dogs who are very laid back and quiet and tiny dogs who are a handful so it all comes down to personality. You cannot select a dog just because of the breed because not all dogs behave the same way. They all have different personalities. The smartest thing is to get to know the dog before deciding on the one that will be perfect for you and your grandmother.
All of the dogs mentioned are usually fine... usually. But the best dog is one that is suited to you, and your situation. Avoid getting a puppy -- you are obviously still in school..and will have no time during the day to tend to it..

Go to places like Pet Smart, or Petco, and have them help you. They have lots of qualified people. The local humane society too, is great. Adopt an adult dog whose personality is already known. All those dogs are in places to be adopted not because they are bad dogs, but because the owners could no longer care for them. All the staff people are great.

But be aware, that this dog will need a walk every day, and if you are not willing to do that, get a cat, or a guinea pig, or a rat or something.goldfish, even

What kind of dog should I get?

What kind of dog should I get? I live in an apartment %26 I am in college.I want a dog that I can carry in a tote bag without any problems and also that I can spoil and dress up! I don't like chihuahuas. I have been looking at Bichon Frises but I don't know how big those get and if they could fit in a carrier!!

My sister has a yorkie and he is so sweet and cute, but I don't really know if I want to get one of those.

Please help!!!

get a horn dog
mini dachshund thats what I have and he loves to be carried in a tote bag I also Live in apartments
I got labs and dalmations and I dress them up time to time for a good laff but no matter what dog you want to have and love and spoil go to the pound or aspca and get one there you will save a life too good luck with a new friend.and one good thing about that is there the ones you can trust the 2 legged one you can't
Dash Hounds are great. (You know weener dogs)
Bichons get too big to be in tote bags. You would probably like a pomeranian. They are tough, patient little dogs, but they have a lot of hair. You have to brush them. Yorkies and Maltese are harder to housebreak, and they have silky coats and get matted all the time. What a pain.
Lhasa Apso's are lovely wee dogs. There small and cute.U can do there hair and stuff!!!
i have a bichon hes an absolutely wonderful little companion. these dogs are very clingy so if your wanting something to tote everywhere this is the dog for you. they follow you all over the house want to sleep with you and cant stand not being near you.my bichon is only 14 lbs. they dont normally get over 20 and not many even make it to 20. most of it is fur. hes also an excellent watch dog and very protective.
Try a mini Dashound. You can spoil them to death, a mini can only get up to eleven pounds.
www.akc.org has a "what kind of dog should I get section" so answer the questions, then go to a shelter and find a mixed breed or www.petfinder.com that resembles your choice. It will have a similar disposition, and a statistically healthier, longer life. Pure bred dogs are all somewhat inbred, so they have more problems and incidence of cancer...

I have a yorkie too, and they are awesome, but there is also mini pomeranians, poodles, shitsu, or maybe go to the humane society and see what small dogs are there. good luck
Yorkies, Pomeranian, papillions, poodles, and minature pinchers are cute toy dogs.

I have to say it. I really hope you want a dog for more than just an accessory. Please think about the long term responsibility of owning a dog. most dogs live 12 -15 yrs. Also beware toy dogs, especially the ones that are too small (under4 lbs), are EXTREMELY prone to health problems. My mother had to spend $1000 to treat her 4lb yorkie when she was a puppy. If you've already considered this great!

See akc pics and list of toys breeds below.
OK, get a Papillion, or maybe a maltese because they never grow more than 8 pounds, and they're both super affectionate and easy to train. The papillion barely sheds, and the maltese never sheds at all. If you train them correctly, neither are "yippy" Good Luck!!
i wold say a a toy poodle.i have one and it is the best dog i ever had.they are sweet and proctective
i would say a shih tzu, they are very mellow dogs and if you keep a puppy cut you can get a 10lb er into a smally my little sammie has his own closet, he likes to shop and cb paws, trixie and peanut, and fifi and romeo. he looks so cute in his juicy couture carrier, and most people are shocked when they finally realize i have a dog in a store he is so quiet. and best of all they shed very little with very little dander and are cute with their pushed in faces. and they are more sturdy of small dogs. they have an average life span of 12 years that is really good.
I've had two shih tzus. they are so adorable. Malteses are great because they are very smart. Miniture poodles are extremely smart and they do not shed.
Bichon Frises can get pretty big. When I lived in an Apt I had a Shih Tzu. He was a really good dog and pretty small. He was very easy to potty train and small enough to fit in my purse. Just remember you get what you pay for. Never buy a puppy that a breeder wont guarantee. Always take it to the vet within 24 hrs after buying it to have a well puppy exam, even if it doesn't need any shots ant that time. The vet will look over it to check for any defects in the puppy. Yorkies are good dogs too, but because they are terriers they can be a little more difficult to potty train and in my experience they can be a little more high strung. I have never owned one but I have heard Papillions are good dogs too. You might want to check out the AKC website they have a lot of great of information about all breeds. www.akc.org
I hope this has helped.

What kind of dog should I get?

My parents are divorced and i stay with my dad alot so... he said i can get any dog i want!!! So what kind of dog would be good , here is kind of an idea of what id like so if you can help pick one that has these characteristics that would be greart!!

- Does not shed too much
-very very small
-inside dog
-not a skiinny dog, i want a fatish one
-one with ind of long hair but not too think
-one that doesn't get gross eyes, like some poodles eyes have like black under their eyes, i dont like that
-loveable and smart

Now i was kind of thinking a long haired teacup chihuahua, but it seems like everyone has them so i kind of wanted one thats different and freakin adorable... so please help!!
Answers:
chihuahuas are a good choice but you can get long haired chihuahuas! its up to you!
Shih tzu
Bull Terrier (they have miniatures)
Boston Terriers
There are all kinds at the shelter just waiting for people like you to adopt them
Go to the AKC website and look at the different breeds. What it looks like is just one of the things you should be considering. Temperament, and how it will fit into the daily lifestyle that you live is very important.
www.akc.org
Chihuahuas (Long haired) also get the tear staining that you are talking about. So do Bishons, shih tzue%26#039;s,poodles,yorkies,peeks,a... all of the stupid "Doodle" mixes.Pretty much any long haired dog except a pom and a doxie. No dog should be totaly In side. It will need to go out side to pee and poop.Go to the pound and get a small dog that is short haired.(No grooming bills and matted hair)
what about a pug or what my cousin got was a cross between a pomarainan and a poodle i believe, and he doesnt shed, but i forgot the breed name
Please don't get a dog. Dogs need a lot of love and attention and you sound like you need more attention than any breed of dog.
Again, please don't get a dog.
Shih tzu. I have a shih tzu and they are the best. It is a small dog, it doesn't shed at all, you can do anything with it- you can sit and cuddle with it or you can play a lot with it. And it is usually a fattish dog unless you shave it. It is really funny when you shave all its fur off except his head and his tail.
Looks of a dog are the least important part of finding a dog find a dog that will fit into your lifestyle and has the right temperment. Do you buy a car because it is your favourite color?
I agree with Andrea Z. You sound like you want a plaything and/or something to show off to your friends. It also sounds like you want attention. Dogs are not accessories, nor are they a replacement for a relationship with your parents.
Get a Shih Tzu. I love my little dog. They are very low maintenance and very lovable. They do have to be groomed though so be prepared for that. I've always been a big dog person and I can't believe how much this little one means to me. She love us all unconditionally. Good luck!
you sud get a pug

What kind of dog should I get?

I want a medium to large dog. Smallest I would want is like... a German Shepherd. I want a dog I can train fairly easily, that gets along good with kids, that could live in a small space, such as an apartment. I don't live in one, but we might move into one. It also needs to be able to do well with rodents, such as rabbits, we have a rabbit, and my Mom will not even take the smallest chance of it being hurt by a dog. So I want a dog that could at least be trained to not hurt the rabiit. We also have a small dog. And I would also want a dog that's protective, or that can guard a house if needed. I would be so into a Golden Retriever, but they aren't as strong as I would like the dog to be, and from what I've heard, they are way too friendly to be a guard dog. I was thinking something like a Pitbull, American Bulldog, or some kind of Mastiff, but Pitbulls are too agressive, and I need some kind of proof to prove that it gets along with small animals naturally, or it can be trained to(c)
Answers:
German Shepards are excellent dogs!!
I would go to the pound or the spca in your area and adopt one that is homeless.

So many people give up beautiful animals just because they don't want them anymore and it is the saddest thing. Why not make some dog's life by becoming his/her owner?
Here is a list of breeds suitable for apartment living:
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/apartment.ht...
Sounds like you're thinking this through! :-)

Try the "Dog Breed Selector" search here--might give you some insight:

lab or retriever
Akitas are large and very strong and can be excellent guard dogs. Just their bear like looks and size usually scare people.

They are very intelligent and easily trained. Provided they are trained they are fine with people they know and small animals. They hunted bears so for some reason they tend to like small animals but get attitude problems when other large dogs are around.

Great Danes are also excellent large dogs. Very smart and the best breed with kids I have seen. Very patient and laid back. Size alone intimidates people and makes them good guard dogs. Not sure you'd want one in an apartment though as they are huge and in small spaces their tails will knock things off shelves etc.
You have to have a Labrador. I tell they are the gentlest of all creatures on earth. They're wonderful with kids, elders and other animals. They are good guide dogs and can be trained easily. Almost the same size as German Shepherds. They are gentle like I said, but can seem be ferocious in the face of danger. They have very good understanding of who are part of family and who is a a stranger. They are the bestest of the best.
get another hobby. a dog is not for you... or adopt from the shelter..
Also, a hound may be good, Our basset though hard to train, was extremely sensitive to needs (like children/cats/small dogs) and learned to get along with them, and even be rather tender with them, and not bark at them. She would bark (extremely loudly) at strangers though, and scare the bejeezus out of them (at least if they didn't see her since she was a short basset). Are other hounds like this? It might be a good lead.

Also our golden retriever though very friendly with anyone friendly too her immediately senses hostility and fear, and reacts appropriately, so is a good guard dog in that sense, though someone not hostile and unafraid could probably clean us out if we weren't at home.
Get a dalmatian. I have a dalmatian and there is never a worry with her around my guinea pigs. I had a rabbit too which she adored. My other dalmatain (RIP) was the same. Most dallies are gentle with other animals. They are great for kids too (I was brought up with one from the age of 4). We have found dalmatians to be soppy, people-loving, energetic-but-gentle dogs. Lots of people love seeing Bekha with us. Dallies get a lot of attention and we often have people stop us and chat with us about her. As for guarding - my dog only ever barks when she thinks a stranger is at the door or trying to get in. Other than that she never barks. Great for guarding!
The best book I've seen on the topic of selecting a dog is "The Right Dog for You" by Daniel Tortora. You have to answer quite a few questions which will establish exactly the qualities you want. There are then several charts with the various breeds of dogs ranked according to opposite ends of a scale, such as friendly to everyone vs one-man dogs, and by size. You will end up with a list of breeds that fullfils your needs. You then need to research the breeds to find which appeal to you most. After that, contact breeders and find out the various pluses and minuses of each breed, as well as qualities that may be particular to each breeder's line.

As to rabbits, you would not want a dog that was originally bred to hunt them, such as terriers, sighthounds and some of the sporting dogs. Apart from that, if you get an eight-week old puppy and bring it up with rabbits it will be much less likely to regard them as prey.

As to whether or not to get a dog from a breeder: there are many advantages to getting a dog from a breeder of show dogs. They are trying to breed their next winning show dog, so they pay a lot of attention to not only a dog that looks right, but to the health and temperment background of the dogs that they are considering breeding from. And to the background of dogs in those dogs' pedigree. You are more likely to get a healthy dog with a good temperment from such a breeder. And it wouldn't necessarily cost you any more than a pet shop dog (gag) or one from a backyard breeder. Plus such breeders are terrific resources when you have questions or any sort of problem with your dog.

Alternatively, yes you could get a dog from a shelter, but you don't know what qualities and background you would be getting. I strongly recommend reading http://www.shibaweb.com/rtemp.htm. It would help you evaluate a potential dog from a shelter. As to the rabbits, you could borrow a rabbit from the shelter or bring one of your own, and see how a dog you are considering reacts to it. No guarantee that this would be the default behaviour once the dog felt comfortable in your home ...
if raised correctly, there is NOTHING wrong with a pit bull.
they have their bad rap for the way people train them to be.
i'm suggesting a ptt. they're medium dogs.
they're not very protective. but female dogs are generally more protective than male dogs. so go for a female if you want a "guard dog".
not sure about the small dog or rabbit, because Honey chases our neighbors stupid cats up the fence and back again. (stupid things shouldn't be venturing into our yard anyways.) but i guess if you were to get the dog when it's a puppy you could train it around the other animals.
it's proven that if a dog is raised around other animals, it's going to treat those other animals like family.

goodluck on finding a dog you like...
honestly, it sounds like you want us to take certain characteristics from some dogs and mash them together to create the ultimate breed.
any dog you get will suit you if trained correctly.
i had a dalmation who was the sweetest thing ever.
but you watch a stranger try and touch me or my sister.
he'd bite their foot off. xD

but i've also seen yorkies be "guard dogs".
moreso ankle biters, but still, they think they're guard dogs.
my fiance's grandma has a chiuasj;hasdf (cant spell that, not even going to try... the taco bell dog.) that wouldsooner bite your head off before it lets you into the house without her saying it's ok.

again, it depends on how you raise and treat the dog.
Hello,
First off, rabbits are not rodents they are a species known as langomorphs. I have had several rabbits and I just had to say that. Here is a website on that: www.dcn.davis.ca.us/vme/DrSue/...

As for the dog, German Shepherds are very easily trained, but you need to be a strong leader or it will not listen to you. I have two dogs who are very good with my rabbits and I got them both from animal shelters. They are both terrier mixes and are usually known as hunters of small animals, but I lucked out. They are both small though and will get up and move if the rabbit gets too close to them. It's actually very funny! You are not going to find a dog that fits all of your criteria, you just have to find one that meets most of them. Shelter dogs are always a great option and you would be saving a life. Sometimes, you will even know some of their back stories and will know if he/she will fit into your lifestyle. Here is a great site to find homeless pets in your area: www.petfinder.com
Due to the fact that you are getting a dog from the pound, dont ask us.
Go to the pound.
Check out the dogs.
If the pound lets you, ask to bring a couple of dogs out to go play.
My dog was shy and didnt care about us at first but later on, she is the funniest and sweetest dog ever.
So just because a dog doesnt seemed interested in you, doesnt mean it isnt.
They are outside and excited that they are away from the gross cages inside.
So just go to the local animal shelter and check which dog would suite you.
Besides, there are def. not a lot of pure breeds so a cute mutt is just as good, if not sometimes better :D
i like the website : dogbreedinfo.com , theres a question and answer section there that is helpful in narrowing down a search for the right breed for your family , you'll see a page listing on the right side of the home page that takes you to the questions section

also you can use the site to research any breed and find out their traits and health issues certain breeds may have

i suggest spending plenty of time on that site or a similar one and learn all that you can about whatever breed you may want

also : my finding of all the dogs i've had and been around (currently have great danes) , any breed ...including "pitbulls" and rottweillers ...can be trained from a puppy to be the best dog ever if your willing to do plenty of training with a knowledgeable trainer , my personal experience with great danes that many people believe to be to big to handle and that they're to big to be a house dog is nonsense.i have spent only 25 hrs. of training courses with him since he was 6 months old , and he is now a certified therapy dog at nursing homes and has passed his canine good citizenship tests from the AKC , he is 2 yrs. old right now and loves just sleeping on the couch , we have 2 cats that play with him , and some people said before i got a dane that they werent good around cats...again .its all about the training

so just do plenty of research and then whatever dog you get just do plenty of training and you'll have a wonderful dog

bob
well, what about a great dane? google it! i think they are beautiful dogs!
If you want a fullbred then you can get a golden retriver are good but they pant a lot
Have you ever thought about a good old fashioned mutt or a mix of a couple of the breeds your interested in. An Anatolion Shepherd dog would be a dog that fits your needs.
They are used in Africa to protest livestock from lions. But are also very popular as a family %26 protector dog in the U.S. Because they are raised to protect they most likley won't go after your rabbit.
www.asdca.org- the breed club web site

Also go to www.petfinder.com , it is a web site that animal rescue groups, humane societys, and animal control list adopdable animals. It is way to keep the cost of your dog down by buying a rescued pure breed or a dog that is a mix of 2 or more breeds your interested in.
See Im different from alot of people and I believe that you can train your dog any way you want any breed any size.. I have both are 9 months old a German Rottweiler and An American Staffordshire Terrier. Both excellent with Kids other animals of all sort and everything Everyone that I know have tha same.. I had both of mine in an apartent and they did very well tha only problem you wil have with large beeds is that you need to make sure that they get plenty of exercise.. Or then they will be lazy couch potatos...lol But most people dont believe that they are good dogs they are.. Staffi's are more stubborn than most dogs tho but a Rottweiler they love to learn... My puppy knows so many tricks its crazy!! German Shepards are also a good choice my friend actually has a 4 month old right now in her apartment and Ive been helpin her train him very good dog... Its more what you want not what everyne else thinks... Any dog can be trained tha way you want it it just takes time!! I think that you will make a great decision any way but goo luck with everything!!!

What kind of dog should I get?

Ok so I will most likely be getting a dog soon, but I don't know which one I want!!! I really want a small/tiny dog that I can carry around (not for show, or because Paris and Britney have one, I think they are losers, I want one simply for love and companionship, and smaller dogs appeal to me), but it would still be able to go for walks if need be. I need a dog that is very loving and attached, but wouldn't mind being home for around 6 hours a day or more since I'm still in school. I also need a dog that would not be agressive since I already have a cat aswell and I want them to get along. Most importantly the dog would need to be able to use some sort of indoor potty since it would be alone for 6 or more hours a day. If there are any dog experts who can help me choose, that would be great!!!

Thanks, all feedback appreciated!!

First, I am glad you thought about what will do well in your home and how much exercise your dog will need.

Do you have a fenced yard, or even a small pen to put him in for a few hours of exercise and sun ?

I am thinking your family or friends agree, too, if they will live with the dog ?

Do you want short hair or long hair ?

The first place I would check is the nearby humane society and animal shelter.

Everyday cute dogs are killed in the U.S. You can also put down the type of dog you would like and be called.

Next, try PetFinder.com and put in your zip code and type of dog. Try different words like Pom or Chi or Papillon.

Go to akc.org and look under Toy Group. Read the health problems so you can check for these when you talk to a breeder or rescue. Read the breed "Standard" and look at several photos to see what they are supposed to look like. Remember a Chihuahua is a Chihuahua, and not a teacup, toy Chihuahua, or a miniature Chihuahua.. those came into being because of unhealthy or runts of the litter and people thought they were cute and would price them HIGHER ! These little guys have way more problems than a normal Chihuahua. So beware that other breeds will do this, too !

Look up the breed you like on the internet put in the breed name, America, and Club and you will get the 'parent' club that protects its breed. Lots, and lots and lots of information!

Get your new pup checked at a veterinarian as soon as you can after you get one. You need to make sure he/she's healthy.

Neuter at about age 1 year. If you have a female, she may go into heat once. At age 1 year, their hormones will have allowed them to grow up and mature.

Next, find an obedience class and take your new dog to at least 2 of them.. about 6 to 8 weeks long.

Good luck and have fun !
i would definetly get a toy poodle.
they are the smartest, cutest, most easily trainable small dog.
they range from 3-15 pounds.
extremely loyal

of of corse
ADORABLE!
Perhaps a Papillon? They are a toy dog, adorable, and intelligent. They also excel at agility. Here's a link to their national club: http://www.papillonclub.org/
Happy dog shopping!
I wouldn't recommend a Yorkshire Terrier.

Yorkies are prone to hypoglycemic shock, which happens when their blood sugar falls too low. This will result in death. Don't deprive them of food, and don't leave them alone for extended periods of time (not a good dog to have if you have a 9-5 job). They are also prone to luxating patellas (knee problems) and dental problems (teeth falling out, diseased gums), which cost $$.

I'm not 100% sure, but a Maltese or Shi-Tzu might be good? Or even a Papillion.
Please look for a reputable breeder! Not the newspaper, not the pet store. Don't look for the cheapest price. That will usually result in a dog that is not up to AKC standards, (don't buy UKC/CKC registered dogs, those organizations basically register anything with 4 legs, while AKC has regulations). They might have temperament problems, and health problems because the breeder has not taken the time to properly breed those negatives out, and is only in it for the money.

A good dog will be around $1000+. Check the breed you want, and find the average price of them and go from there. Don't be fooled into buying a "teacup" or "tiny" dog, those are usually runts of the litter. Responsible breeders will not purposely breed for that trait, but occasionally they do get some in a litter.

You will have to train a dog to use an "indoor potty". Dogs, like humans, are not born knowing where and when to poop.
Mini French poodle or a Chihuahua (Chihuahua is the obvious choice, thats what I'm probably going to get)
A Pug, Yorkie, or Pomeranian. Adorable.
You can type in the search Westminster dog show and they have the different types of dogs i.e. toy, sporting, herding, working and so on. if you press the toy section it will show you the different types of toy breeds and the information about them. I hope this helps.
just go to the shelter an somebody with help you
All breeds can get along with other animals, if they are trained to. If you wanted a big dog, I would recommend a Aussie, (Australian Shepard I have one!)
but here are some small dogs I recommend:

West White Highland terrier
DESCRIPTION: Very intelligent, fairly easy to groom, lives up about 13 years. May be a good watch dog or aloof with strangers. In the terrier group.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi
DESCRIPTION: Calm, affectionate, easy to groom. Part of the herding group. Color: tan, with white blaze and stomach, different colors may be seen.

Schnauzer
DESCRIPTION: Affectionate, silly, grooming may vary. Color: may be smoke grey, and other colors may appear.

There are alot more dogs that will fit well into your household.
If you choose to get a big dog, get a Aussie! If you live in California here is a great breeder (i got my aussie from them): www.hallsaustralianshepherds.c... and if you live in colorado, ww.trademarkaussies.com

Good puppy luck!
A toy or teacup poodle or even a Yorkie it depends how welll you take care of it.

What kind of dog should i get?

My dog died yesterday and i am teribly upset. He was a minurature collie. I am trying to figure out what kind of dog to get now. I want a dog that is playful but really cute and i think i want a small dog. I was thinking a teacup yorkshire terrier. What do u think?
Answers:
I think my rottweiler would make a quick snack out of a teacup yorkie.
personally, i like labs or basset hounds!
you should so get a black or brown pug! that would be so cute! if it is a girl name it massie! if its a boy name it max! dont you think that would be cute?
hm . .
-welsh corgi
-pomeranian
-wiener
-terrier
yorkshire already is small enough just try a regular yorkie. also, westies are not bad also scottie!
well i need more info. I like chihuahuas and minpins.
a hot dog becuse their not to long and not to short=)

and always follow the rules u just have to get to no it for at least 1 weeks
whatever kind of dog you get wont make up for the first one but i like the little taco bell dog they just seem playful and it dont cost a arm and leg to take of
Use a Dog Breed Selector search engine.

You can fill out a online survey and it will determine the best dog breed based on your preferred attributes. Such as size, intelligence, grooming needs. Try the link below.
A yorkie would be good!
I think that dog is a very good choice, they're cute and very active. If you're not sure I have 2 Shih-Tzus and they're great...
I know what it's like to feel that void.. and to want to fill it with another puppy. Be careful and don't give in to the first pair of eyes that you see.

I got a papillon after my Australian Shephard passed away. I've grown up with all sorts of dogs my whole life, but I can say I've never been so in love with a dog in my life.

He's 4.5 pounds, which is a little small for the breed. They range from 5 to 10 pounds on average. They're fun, smart, agile, energetic, and CUTE. They're hardy and can put up with almost anything anyone can throw at them. They travel well, they learn quickly, they're great companion animals.

Papillons are often the breed that wins the smallest categories of obedience and agility contests. They are trained as assistance animals. They're social, outgoing and just a heck of a lot of fun.

Consider, if you will, that teacups of any kind are usually VERY fragile, prone to a whole BUNCH of medical problems and are so easy to break! They need a lot of SPECIAL care. I don't recommend buying anything that's advertised as "teacup".

Yorkies are okay. They're a little timid... and they bark. And bark. And bark and bark and bark and bark. They also require a lot of grooming. They mat and tangle pretty easily. They tend to be very territorial, too.

Chihuaha's are an okay choice for a small dog, but they have their own problems. They're often shy, territorial and noisy, but grooming is easy! Even on the long-hairs and those are cuuuute.

Do your research on the small dogs. Many have special needs. Pomeranians are a grooming nightmare. Schiperke's never ever ever stop. They go on forever. Poodles are yappy shakey creatures.
beagles
i think that u should get a black lab. my mom thinks a minature dauchsund.
i like daschund hounds. i have a 5 year old dapple doxie named,"Juicy Fruit." hes such good man, i just love him!!

What kind of dog should i get?

I want something small, but one that doesn't shed a lot. one smart enough not to poop in the house, and to bring the ball back when we play fetch. one that will stay by my side day and night.i like to go camping a lot and want it to not be ready and willing to run off at any given moment. i was thinking of a pug does anyone have any other opinions on this, please help!?! Thank you
Answers:
Try this link. It's a Dog Breed Selector from Animal Planet. You answer a few questions about what you want and it picks the breed for you. It will tell you if the breed matches 100% or your needs, 97.3%, 82%, etc. You can take a look and make the right decision for you.

Click on "Start Your Search" under Dog Breed Selector.
Other than small and shedding.. The other ones are things that you have to train the dog for.. They don't just come knowing / doing those things. As far as wanting to be with your day and night, you have to be a good and respected owner, so that your dog wants to be with you.
Yeah, first of all, if you want a dog that can do all that, you will have to train it, next if you want one that can go camping with you, don't get a small dog unless you want them to be an easy bear snack. Try a big dog, Great Dane, Rottie, Mastiff. And by the way, they all shed, just a matter of if you can see it because it is a long hair or a short hair.
This might sound funny, but Chihuahua's are GREAT little dogs.

My friend has two and they are the nicest, most playful little dogs I've ever known.
a pug
If you don't mind the Shedding, snoring, and all around breathing problems, go with the pug. Poodles DO NOT shed and are hypo-allergenic. Jack Russles are extremely smart, some say the smartest of all dogs. Pom's require daily grooming. Same with Peks. Chihuahua are ok, I have one. I would go with the Jack Russle for what you might want in a dog.
chiuhuahua(SP?)

thier adorable and energetic

other than small and non sheding you need to train
Get a mutt, you could get a small mutt from the shelter. Then you can train it to stay by your side etc... If you need advice on training a dog(puppy) they will help you at the shelter. Hey mutts are smarter than people think I have a wonderful little mutt! Loves the outdoors..
When I think of pugs, I think of prissy little indoor dogs that lay around and snore. They shed a lot too.

I'd recommend a Cairn terrier. (think Toto from the Wizard of Oz) They have hair and do not shed as long as you brush them regularly. Terriers are known for being tenacious, with "big dog" attitudes, because they were bred for hunting small animals. They're full of energy, and won't get too big (20-25 pounds).
Just so you know pugs shed a lot I am a groomer and when they come in the table is covered in fur that can be brushed off of them at any time...they also require their face folds to be cleaned daily or they start to stink and get infected..they are nice little dogs though...a chihuahua...any terrier.toy poodle.you need to do your homework and its true any dog will use the house unless they are trained well...and if you are planning on camping a lot a small dog might not be the answer you might want to go with a medium or large breed...jack russels shed but they are very active and love outdoors..good luck...get a dog breed book that tells about personalities
west high land terrier or a minature pincher.
Basset Hound , they are pretty chill
I'd say go for the good old beagle..

I know you said small but I can't imagine some little toy dog out in the forest trying to keep up with you. He'd be Bobcat bait too..

Get yourself a medium sized dog. All dogs will shed and it you do not see yourself as a complusive groomer, then stay away from the long coated breeds. Go for something with a short coat.

With regards to toilet habits and loyalty, that really depends on your own qualities as a dog owner and trainer. You;ll have to learn how to teach your dog and ensure he is well behaved.

Good luck.
A Labrador would be perfect for you. Also, maybe an Australian cattle dog. Honestly, you should just go to the pound and spend time with some mutts. They make the best pets. Find one less than a year old so you can train it. You will know when you meet the perfect dog.
PUG, THEY SHED A LOT! and in order for them to do what you want it take PATIENTCE. a Standtard Schnauzer, not the Giant just normal.
Jack russell... because they are lovable small dogs who are very obediant if trained properly
