What is the quarantine period for dogs coming to the UK from S. Africa?

A jack russell and a maltese poodle.

There isn't one anymore. The 6m quarantine has been abolished. Non- UK dogs were at Crufts this year. You will need a current shot vaccination record and a Certification from your vet in South Africa that your dogs are in good health.
6 mths
Up to 6 months - they are a rabies free country, and only allow dogs in from rabies free countries without a quarantine. You can start the quarentine process while in S. Africa though and I believe quarentine in your home - as long as you send them bloodwork 6 months before and the day before you leave. They have a ton of info and the whole process including paperwork you will need on their website.
Your dogs won't qualify for the PETS scheme and will have to go into quarantine for 6 months in the UK.
This should give you all the information you need:
http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quaranti...
The appropriate period is a period of 6 months quarantine.

I don't think that South Africa is part of the PETS travel scheme so I think your dogs will have to go into quarantine but you can check with DEFRA - Telephone no: +44 (0)870 241 1710 (Monday to Friday - 8.30am to 5pm UK time)

You can try asking if part or all of the quarantine time can be spent in kennels in South africa again i don;t think so but worth asking the question.
6 months i think
