What is the best kind of dog you can have if one of your kids is allergic but still wants one?

Yes, my brother's kid has an allergy to pet fur.but she really wants one. Any suggestions?
Answers:
No dogs are hypoallergenic. Stay away from the designer/hybrids, they are the WORST! Some are better than others. The child can also be allergic to the saliva. I honestly would skip it for now. The shots and medicine just aren't worth it. None of the household filters work.

It looks like a lot of these people aren't very well acquainted with allergies and allergic reactions. Taking a sick kid to the ER at 3am because they are having trouble breathing is a real laugh riot.
A dog that is fairly hypoallergenic - Poodles, Goldendooldes, Labradoodles, Bichon Frise or very short haired varieties.
Poodle

Shih Tzu

Bichon frise

Maltese
a breed of dog that either hairless or has short hair and doesnt shed as much. What might also help is a lot of benadryl.
We had a Yorkshire Terrier.
They are really hairy, yet the 'dander' didn't seem to bother me or my skin.
Chihuahuas also never bothered me, nor did poodles.
Shih tzus,maltese,yorkies,poodles,b... cresteds i hear, Basicly the non sheding breeds. You could also go with what they call a designer dog which is a cross of the two. Cockers spaniels are also no shed dogs so that means low allergys. Short hair dogs have more allergen problems as they shed alot and loose lots of dander.
The only dog that is fun sweet natured and never loses its fur, is a poodle, they are so good with chidren. Wish you well
BICHON FRISE!
I have asthma and bad allergies, but my husband wanted a dog. We did some research and found that bichons don't shed and do very well with people with allergies. We got our first bichon 3 years ago and loved him so much that we got another bichon a year ago as a playmate. Bichons are also great around kids and very smart!
One with very short hair.
a boxer, would be good, they are excellent with children, and have very short hair. But i think any dog would be ok, just make sure to take care of it, give it a bath weekly and brush it outside. And im sure a doctor could give the kid a allergy medicine.
Poodles are supposed to be very good with people who have allergies. The best part is, they come in toy and standard so you can have whichever size works best for your family. I've heard that poodle mixes are also good for people with allergies. My neighbors have a golden doodle, a golden retriever/poodle mix who is absolutely adorable - he looks like a little tan lamb. Little bundles of energy who are perfect for a family who would want to go out and throw balls and play with the dog in the yard, but they're still gentle with children with good personalities.
Good luck!
Humans are allergic to pet dander which surfaces from a pet's second layer of fur. Most dogs have two layers of fur a top colorful and shiny coat and a bottom more fluffy coat which is the part that "sheds". Many dogs with more wiry flat hair such as pittbulls do not have this second layer. ONe of the few dogs who are a little different are the portuguese water dog who are friendly fluffy little dogs who love to swim, hence it's name, and is very playful and calm and does not have a second layer of fur and does not shed but it's hair falls out and regrows in a more similar fashion to humans which eliminates dander.
The allergies come from pet dander (whats on the fur) and these dont vary too much in different dogs. So that doesnt really matter. But there is powder that you can but at a petstore to sprinkle on the dogs back and rub it in. Im not positive if this works well or not. But I used to work at a petstore and I know we sold it like crazy. Dont listen to anyone who lists dog breeds off to you that would be better than another...it more varies from dog to dog not breed. Dander is almost like dry skin flakes. I went to school to study animals, so Im pretty sure Im right. I wouldnt want her to have a reaction. Also sometimes the doc can give people some medication that reduces allergies. Not sure if they do that for children though.
Havanese. They don't shed and don't bother allergies. I have allergies to dogs also and I have a Havanese, I can stick my face right in his hair and be fine. The Havanese is also a good lively companion for children, they are very loving, playful and not aggressive at all, and they are small but very sturdy.
Yorkshire Terrier all the way! They are great with kids, and are idependent you can leave them alone for hours and they will be good. They are easy for a child to walk, and they shed less than a short haired dog. The only problem with Yorkies are that they have teeth problems and tend to get skin problems as they age. I live with a Yorkie and he lets children pull on him and everything. Most books tell you you to bath and brush your Yorkie once or twice a week but if you get him clipped he won't need to be bathed or brushed but once or twice a month. And as an added plus they are really cool looking dogs. They are also protective, once when I walking my Yorkie a German Shepard got lose and was running at me snarling. I picked up my Yorkie, but he jumped out of my and ran at the Shepard he stopped just in front me stiff and growling, When the dog came at me my Yorkie barked and savagly bite its leg, then the owner came and grabbed his dog. Yorkies have been known to attack people that are trying break in, but if the person coming in is invited by the owner then they are really nice.

Summary: Get a Yorkshire Terrier; they are dander free, loving, patient, sweet, and protective.
labradoodle
