What kind of dog would be best for children?

Just wonderin'
Answers:
Retrivers are cute and furry. Of course a lot of people have them. I have a flat-coated retriever (its a black retriever)
hot dog's. and they wont leave a mess on the carpet.
Any dog would bring joy, however some terrier breeds can have a quick temper with smaller children
A chihuahua or another toy dog breed. They get on well with children and if they are introduced from young they are very protective and loyal to the child.
A Labrador retriever or a golden retriever puppy would be good. But be sure that when you get it it's not to wild.
labs are excellent family pets. just make sure you have your puppy trained not to jump up on your kids. they weight about 70-80 lbs fully grown. they love the water, they loveeee tennis balls.
It all depends on what breeds-groups-size you like. Alot of large dogs are hyper their first years, but realy settle down into being great with children and babies. Such as the famous, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, and large breed Mutts.

Shetland Sheepdogs are workers(my friend's dog), but he loves to be around kids! He was hyper until around six months, to almost a year. But he still was gentle with kids and babies.

Then Welsh Corgis and Yorkies are also good with kids. Realy loving, and not to hyper.
Depends how well behaved your kids are.
If your kids are the ones that will climb on the dog, pull the dogs ears, yank on its leash...dont get a dog at all.

German shepards and dobermans are very good with children. They are protective of the family, but tolerate children "riding them". I had a german shepard when i was born, till i was 6. My entire family has had dobermans, and they are very sweet dogs, they love children.

Most people think golden retrivers and labs are good family dogs, yet ive seen more people get snapped at, growled at, and bit by those dogs more than any other dog.
In my own personal experience you can't go wrong with a golden retriever, they are good natured and like to play. I had a german shepard as a kid and it was very protective of me and my sister but it would get aggressive toward strangers.
cavalier king charles spaniels. definiately!! they are so, so, so friendly! i have never met one that isn't fun, loving and playful! they are certainly a great dog to have for kids- i am 15 and my family has one. he is great, doesn't shed, very playful and EXTREMELY CUTE!
so give it a try the only down side is some of them snore! but there is an operation you can give your dog if this is the case- but it only occurs in some dogs.
hope i could help!
cya :)
a would not suggest a terrior, as they can get snappy. But it depends on their up bringing.

I have always gone with bigger dogs such as the border collie, they are loyal and protect people, and they can also be playful. Our border candy we got as a puppy, my little brother use to carry her around, though not meaning to, by her neck, she is fine, and as we have grown she has changed from a caring and gentle to a boundful adult with youthful times.

She is lovely, and as a young dog when we were growing up, if one of us was hurt, she would come over and sit with us, if we needed help, she would get eth attention of an adult, she was hit by a car just after she has 24 puppies, (I know its a large little) only 13 survived, any way, we had to hand feed and cre for puppies while she revovered, it was hard, and the vet didnt think shed survive, with abroken spine and her nose not attatched to the bone, she made a ful recovery, still shakes her tush more than normal due to broken spine, but 8 or 9 years on and still going strong. Shes about 10, and is an energietc dog, i dont think you can get any otehr true friend, we also have a Cavalier King Charles, not suited for little children, but make great family pets and are playful and friendly.

I hope this helps
I think I Golden retriever because they are very gentle. But it does depend on the kid.
Tip: DON'T get a popular breed like a golden retriver. If you get one of those, you are telling the world that you "got on the bandwagon" and got a popular breed, wheather or not it was the right breed for you. Besides there are lots of other, overlooked breeds, shuch as the Berger Picard?, that would be just a good.
This is just my opinion but... I think a small dog like a Pembroke Welsh Corgi would be perfect! Kids would probably love to pet there dog and i think Corgis like lots of love! Lemme know what breed you pick!

Schipperke's are great dogs with children coming or in the house already.they have a very polite disposition about them also they are very protective of their families, if someone comes up to the kids that your dog doesnt like, they will let them know.if something isnt right in the house, they will let you know, they are very intellegent dogs learning things really quickly and lots lots more..it would be worth checking out wikipedia or searching for schipperke clubs of usa online, we have one and my mother has 2 and they are the best dogs you could ever ask for.
Labrador Retrievers, they are great family dogs. Mine tolerates anyhting my young nieces and nephews throw at them. Not only that the kids have a ball with them. They go swimming and kayaking together in the summer and sledding in the winter. They are just great all around dogs with a fun loving devoted personality.
Labradoodle don't malt very much and brill with children .Research them.
