What is the best Dog food i should use for my 8 week old chocolate lab and also for when he is older?

You see i dont want to spend an excessive amount of money on food. I just want to find the best food for him with all the nutrients and stuff he needs but not for crazy amounts of money. and also what kind of food i should feed him when he is an older dog.
Answers:
Best to get a Puppy food that is specifically for large breed puppies. Also on the ingredients list the 1st one should be a meat "lamb, chicken" and not a vegetable or a meat by products,
Iams for puppy, and then the adult formula. I'd get the dry formula also
You should get your lab on Canidae all life stages. It's around 38 to 40 dollars for a 40 pound bag. It will carry him thoughout his entire life. No need to switch him over at all.
See if this will fit into your budget.
Go with a high quality food such as Canadae for all stages (They don't have a "Puppy" and "Adult" formula - It's 1 food for all stages of life). It is a little more expensive than some of the other foods on the market, but you shouldn't skimp on your dog when it comes to food - It will make him a healthier dog in the long run!
Dry biscuits are better and can clean the teeth at the same time. feed from most major companies will be very similar with variations in what the include, however the major nutrient levels would be consistence. Older dogs have a lower requirement for energy and protein than lounger dogs and a higher fibre diet would be useful.
In reality, it has more to do with the amount fed and a reduction in portions will probably prove even more effective and exercises
Iams or Pedigree large breed puppy formulas are what my vet told me to get my lab when she was a puppy. iams is more expensive, but it's supposed to be the best you can get.
Pedigree Puppy then Pedigree Large breed
I have a 13 week old Yellow Lab. We have her on Purina Pro Plan chicken and Rice for puppies. We started her on Purina Pro Plan Lamb and Rice. The breeder told us to give this to our puppy. We did for a few weeks then we were having problems trying to find it. We had to drive a hour to buy the food at Petsmart. They also make this for adult dogs. When your dog reaches about a year old you can go to adult food.
This food is good for puppy's digestive systems.
You can buy this at Wal-Mart.
Our puppy has had no problems with this food. Now days you can't be to careful with all the recalls.
You could ask your Vet when you take your puppy in for its shots what food he suggests?
My puppy is healthy and gaining weight. I have not worried as of yet as to the safety of this food.
Have fun with your puppy.
P.S. I just finished potty training my puppy a few weeks ago to go potty outside. She goes to the door now and will cry when she wants to go outside. Labs are very smart.
Good Luck
I breed Chihuahua's and I own #8. They are all different ages. I feed them "Canidae All Life Stages Dry Food", which you can use from weaning to senior adults. It has NO corn, wheat, soy, grain fractions, fillers, and is all natural. For such a good quality, nutritious food, it is surprisingly inexpensive. It comes in 5lb, 20lb, and 40lb bags. I buy the 40lb bags, which cost me $35.99. Another great thing about this food is, dogs don't eat as much, still get the necessary nutrition required, to stay healthy and happy, so that way, it lasts alot longer, and you save money at the same time. It is also very safe, and none of the Canidae products have been recalled. None of my dogs have ever been sick, since they've been on this food, which has been a long time, and they absolutely love it, and that surprised me when I first started my dogs on it, because Chihuahua's can be very picky eaters. Since I don't know where you live, I can't tell you where you can buy it. You can just call some of the pet supply stores in your area, and see if they carry it, and I think you can order it online, but I'm not sure about that. If you want more information on this food, just type "Canidae All Life Stages", in your search bar, and it brings up alot of information you can check out. I would seriously give it a try. I would get the 5lb bag to start with and see if he likes it, then get a bigger bag later, if he does. Hope this helps a little! Good Luck to you and your baby. He must be so adorable!
Everybody is going to have a favorite brand of dog food, and think everyone else is wrong. So in kinda puts the question in the ambiguous category. The reality is that there is no right or wrong answer, not all dogs have the same needs. Don't be afraid to try a food and see how YOUR dog does on it.
With the Retriever enthusiasts there are two schools of thought as to what foods to use for a lab puppy, IMHO they both work equally as well.
The first one (old method) was to buy one 40# bag of regular puppy food, and when that bag is gone switch the dog to an adult formula.
The second one (new method) is to keep the dog on a LARGE breed puppy food for one year, and then switch to an adult food.
Where the problem with Labs comes from is that puppy foods are to hot, and cause to fast a growth rate. This causes weak joints, and the dog will brake down because of it.
Chocolate labs need to eat chocolate to maintain their color.
